This is a great performance of this song [features Don Airey (solo before the song) and Jon Lord] from DVD Live at The Nec (gig from 2002 year). Enjoy

I love Jon Lord, and I can't think of a better alternative than Don Airey. I love the solos Don puts together and how he weaves various classical and popular pieces in them so seamlessly....genius.

The logical choice to replace Jon was Tony Carey, by far the better musician when compared with Don Airey.
@ASoundofThunderBand9 ай бұрын
@@lilylaw1517 Tony himself will tell you he doesn't do that much prog rock any more and has some arthritis that interferes with his fast lead playing. But more importantly TC is not a sideman or just a keyboard player. He's been a lead vocalist and captain of his own ship since the early '80s. I don't think he'd want this job.
@lilylaw15179 ай бұрын
@@ASoundofThunderBand I'm not taklking of the situation now but at the time of Jon's retirement. I'm fully aware of Tony's solo career having seen him live many times and when he works with Peter Maffay.
@ASoundofThunderBand9 ай бұрын
@@lilylaw1517 Fair enough. TC was probably physically more up to shredding some lead organ solos back then, but on the other hand wasn't that around the time he had cancer? Anyway, TC is certainly a much better songwriter than Don, but I still don't see him actually wanting this job. Too much of a time commitment for a project where he would be creatively stifled.

At the Plymouth Pavillions, they had no barriers and Gillan told the security guys to let us come right up to the stage as soon as Jon popped up behind the Hammond. It was the last leg of the tour, I was able to shake hands with Jon at the edge of the stage and when I left for a last drink at the bar, Don Airey was sitting there and we had a quick chat. It was a very memorable evening!

In 2010 Deep Purple came to Armenia to give a concert for the first time. It was very special event because they're very famous in Armenia and there are thousands of fans who wished to see the them. During 2 weeks before the concert organizers told that there will be something special in the show. Don't know why, but I imagined that something like this might happen.
