The fire: On December 4, 1971, a flare gun set fire to the Montreux Casino in Switzerland, where Deep Purple was recording their album Machine Head. Awesome reaction and I'm glad that Deep Purple is enjoyed on the island. Smoke on The Water has one of the most iconic guitar riffs in rock music, and the lead guitarist Richie Blackmore is considered considered one of the greatest rock guitarists ever. I would recommend reacting to Highway Star, another great one from Deep Purple.

I know it's very common to believe that Ian Gillian was/are the singer in Deep Purple, but nothing ing could be more wrong. The singer is Ian Gillan. I know for a fact that Mr Gillan, is not what you can say in good terms with Mr Gillian :-). But about this video, since this a short concert so Purple performs the edited version of the song ( was too long for American radio ). So you don't hear the third verse. If you want the whole story check the whole lyrics.

they were in switzerland recording the new album and decided to take a break and go see a frank zappa concert at the casino and during franks concert some fan fired off a flare gun and consequently the casino burnt to the ground and deep purple retired back to the hotel and could see the casino burning beside the water - ritchie blackmore has admitted now that smoke on the water is betheevon 5th backwards = i recommend my favourite deep purple song = lazy - i see it as the music waking up because its lazy ...
