Whilst being keen to beat down on discrimination it is also true that outrage politics achieves nothing useful if it does not engage with politics as a whole. Destroying a sport and its followers does not improve the lot of the lower end of our economic achievers. Beware the chimera of identity politics whilst ignoring economic politics. Do not get suckered by easy targets, it is the hard targets that need to be addressed. Watch the squirrel - don't.

This is a tale as old as time, the level of protectionism in cricket and the preservation of the elitism and snobbery has always been there, from the top of the game to the grassroots. It's as if the powers that be in English cricket don't want the sport to gain a mainstream status as it'd be a threat to them and their corrupt system.

Now, is that because we are a racist sexist society, or because the kind of people, who get into role of producing These "reports", need jobs. Which they wouldn't have if they didn't keep finding things. It's quite simple really. This is what managerialism looks like. Text book case. That's the real privileged class. The class that gets to make up reports, that require more reports ad infinitum. I can attest to seeing predatory behavior in Cricket. Though I was never abused to the extent as what is being talked about here, I noticed a discriminatory behavior being adopted by the other kids when I was in the youth system. I never went very far, but I played for the best part of a decade, and I eventually dropped out because I felt bullied and picked on by the kids I had grown up with. It wasn't anything to do with class or snobbery, but it was a predatorial instinct that had arose in them and eventually picked me out as a whipping post. And it wasn't just them, I noticed it across other youth systems, and in private school teams we played against. Whenever I brought it up, there seemed to be a way of it being swept under the rug. I won't say any specific names as my case is much lighter than what's being discussed here, but I think the issue here is the ingrained pedagogy and 'old boy' nature of the intuitions behind the sport. It was a posh sport a hundred years ago, and that generation don't want to let it go out of privileged hands. I felt humiliated when I dropped out because I enjoyed the sport but lost my love for it on a day-to-day basis. I felt isolation, and felt guilty about it because there was never any open discussions in the sport about things like this. And as a kid, it can be very hard to vocalise your feelings when there isn't an adult asking the right questions. What I will say is that when I play now on Saturday and Sundays at recreational level, there is none of this whatsoever. It's a bit of fun, and any discrimination is stamped out immediately. And there's a genuine appreciation for the inter-racial mix the sport helps foster. Perhaps this is because there's no large institution behind it, it's the just players from the area who want anyone and everyone to get involved. I hope very much that todays Ashes game (28th June 2023) will make some statement about this report too.

@SenakaWeeraratna-v7t Жыл бұрын
This is true not only of English Cricket but also of ICC. Senaka Weeraratna is the inventor of DRS. Google and Wikipedia recognize him as there is no other challenger. ICC, however, is always in a state of denial when it comes to attributing due credit to the inventiveness of non-white authors. Money talks and ICC has shut the mouth of all affiliated bodies particularly in Sri Lanka and the Indian subcontinent and the Black African and Caribbean cricketing countries from raising the issue of authorship of DRS. It would not be wrong to say that the ICC has contempt for claims of high intellectual achievement beyond the boundary of people from non-white countries. These racist attitudes are rooted in a pathological condition. Cricket commentators talk about every aspect of DRS in their commentaries except on the origin of DRS. It is a taboo subject. ICC does not want its hirelings in the commentary box to mention the name of Senaka Weeraratna even as a contender despite worldwide recognition. The reason is obvious. Sri Lankan cricket commentators stand to lose their lucrative jobs if ever they mention in a cricket commentary in Sri Lanka that a Sri Lankan i.e., Senaka Weeraratna, has made a claim for recognition of authorship of DRS Senaka Weeraratna has revolutionized the game of cricket with his conception of ' Player Referral' which is the substratum of DRS. The ICC lacks integrity and intellectual honesty, and moreover lacks cogent evidence admissible in a Court of Law, to establish authorship of DRS. It is working on a pure bluff in the hope that the true author of DRS, Senaka Weeraratna, will get fed up in frustration and withdraw from further engagement in a ' David and Goliath' contest in a scenario where the ' Spirit of Cricket' is markedly absent. Shame on ICC

Pretty sure the not-doing-anything-about-it is exactly why there are 100 sports which are racist. I think the age we live in grants us a unique power of exposure. News travels quickly. People can whistleblow more effectively. Corporations and power can be held accountable, not totally, but more indiscriminately than ever. Sure we still have problems in the media and in the pillars of power, but 'moving on' just lets this kind of stuff exist unchecked.
