Part 1 - Deep snow, tire failure, recoveries and more snow off road action. The deepest snow we have had so far and it brings both fun and troubles for the Land Rover Drive team. Me (Simon), Erik and Ørjan go offroading with a Land Rover Defender 110, Range Rover Classic and a Discovery 4.
In part one you will get to see us trying to get up that first hill, and not without trubles. The snow is deep and the cars handles it in different ways. You will se winter tires vs Mud terrains and you will see which terrain response mode the LR4 should use when driving in deep snow.

@LandRoverDrive
@LandRoverDrive 5 жыл бұрын
Great day off-roading. 😀Depends on the conditions and tire size but for this winters trips the MT's has been the best in cold deep snow. On the other winter video when it was around zero degrees the winter tires were the best. If you had MT's with studs I would think that would be the best option, but narrow MT's so they don't have to push the snow. Another option would be artic truck size tires so you can float on the snow, but that is not an option for us or regular cars. :) There are more winter videos on the channel so be sure to check them out so you can see for your self. :) Thanks for watching.

Hey and thanks! Glad you liked the video. :) And you are quite right with you three first points. We are mostly using second and third low in this video, both the Defender and the RRC. It's kind of what they can handle in terms of engine power. I stalled it on that first hill in third, because of too little torque at the low rpm's. All three have center diff locks, and me and Erik (Defender and RRC), are thinking about getting a rear diff lock. 😉 Will try and do second high next time to see if that is a good middle way. 🤔

Hi guys. Really enjoyed the video. And I was going through the comments to find exactly what I needed. A discussion about the gears 😅. Would you mind elaborating a bit please? I have a Discovery 300tdi (1996). This weekend we went up in the mountains. First part, used tracks with snow and a bit of ice. Then we started to hit deep snow. The bed was rock and dirt and the snow was 30-40 cm, in some parts pretty frozen. We were 5 cars and there was a discussion as to use high or low gear ratio. I kept low and was pretty happy with it. But on the other hand I was fourth and the others “paved the way” even though they got stuck often. What is your suggestion on the gear ratio and most importantly why high vs low? I would really appreciate if you could answer! Best!

@@LandRoverDrive Thanks Simon :) I was reading that these original rims are designed to be used with tubes. In theory you can use them without tubes but it is a bit unsafe as it has smaller bed flanges and it’s easier for the tyre to come off. @@LandRoverDrive Not even the material has a meaning. It is just the stock alloy wheels 7 inches wide. They better hold a flat tire. Yes rim width does matter. The narrower the disc, the lower the chance to disassemble the wheel at low pressure. Someone sawing discs from 7 inches to 5.5 inches. For 285 enough and 7 inches. The most optimal dimension for defender 255/85/16.

@@363one363 Aaaa, thanks man, good to know. 😀👍 7" 285 and really low pressure. Hmm, needs to be tested out. 😀 Thanks again. Great getting tips and tricks. 👍

Hey, as Bill Billy just said, not trying to prove anything. Just out having fun with friends and sharing it with everyone who enjoys this kind of trips and adventures. There is more videos on the channel that shows what we are all about. Overlanding, off road and good times with friends! 👍😀 We are out learning in all areas and we share our experiences with everyone, and everyone who like can comment and share their experiences with us, so we are all learning from each other. So much to learn and so much fun to be had. 😀 Thanks for watching and please check out the other videos. 👍
