don't get distracted by the use of the word 'zombies'. This is a call to action song. They're talking about how regular people can fight the powers that be, they're calling on regular folks to not hide anymore, come out in the streets and make your voices heard. The people in high places are the politicians and money-lenders that control so much of life. And he says, "the peace is going to fall on you", not a piece of the broken tablet. This is such a stirring song, we can make this world better if we stop hiding and come together. You should check out the live version of 500 Miles by them, yo will love seeing them. Thanks for the great song that still brings tears to my eyes. Love.

According to the Chicago Tribune in 1985, Eric Bazilian, one of the two writers of the song stated the following: "People ask us what it's about ... the weird thing is we didn't consciously put [the heavy stuff] there." Confirmed by Wikipedia, the other writer, Rob Hyman, also told the website, Songfacts, "that the biblical images, including Moses and Noah, were not part of any agenda, though some radio stations refused to play it." Hyman went on to say, "I love songs like that, you just listen and every time you hear it you kind of wonder what's going on." Sometimes, writers DO intend us to get a specific message; but other times, writers just like the sounds of certain words and the moods they conjure without attaching specific meaning to those words as we, understandably, are so often determined to do. We try to understand and start insisting there IS a meaning...of course, often (though not always) championing the meaning(s) we, ourselves, attribute. Providing we don't get too carried away, this is how we as an audience work with the artists in the co-creation of the meaning(s) of art!

The hooters- All you zombies. One of my favourite songs!. The people who judged, poke muck, and don't believe in others, hold power and greed are The Zombies..." All you zombies hide your faces, all the people in the street, all you sitting in high place's, the pieces are going to fall on you,." All those that judged, didn't believe, hold power and greed, you will come crashing down.. at the end of the song... "All you zombies show your face's, all you people in the street, all you people in high place's, it's all going to rain on you.." stating, you can all face the shame of being wrong... Very powerful song!

Zombies are us as people! Not much to do about religion in this song & more to do about people in high places trying to tell us what to do, what's good for us etc. Noah is a reference to breaking out of the chains & trying something new because if we dont the pieces are going to fall on us! @@fuji1705 You can read it as such however you want & thats good. Its not meant as a religious song other than to reference Noah as an example. only Even the video wasn't religious for it. Its about the working person getting chained to life by people with alot of power & money. The title says it all. It's actually anti religion & anti big establishment. Don't get caught up in the Noah reference & think its a religious meaning. It was only for reference. It's not for or against religion & The Hooters have said so themselves. It's about people & breaking free from all forms of establishment/brainwashing incl. religion!

Brad, you hit the nail on the head, when you said "religous vs. non religous". Although, "faithfully devoted", like Noah & Moses, would be a better description, than "religous". The "zombies" are symbolic of those who are dead inside because of unbelief. I still have the LP from back in '83 when this song and the song "And We Danced" were popular hits on the radio.

Hey guys what's up! This song is so prophetic. The zombies are the people that won't listen to God's words. Like when he says all you people in high places those pieces are going to fall on you. He's talking about when Moses smashed the Ten Commandments because the people built the golden calf. And he's telling the zombies 2 wake up for it's too late. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!

Wrong. The truth is, not even frontman Eric Basilian, who wrote the lyrics, has the faintest idea what they're about. The Biblical imagery of the verses came to be just by happenstance, and if there is any connection with that and the chorus, he remains unaware of it - as well as being unaware of who the zombies are and what they do. By his own admission. So there's definitely no preaching involved, thank goodness. Sorry to burst your bubble. No, that's a lie - I'm not sorry, since I despise religion in general, and the US redneck moron version of Christianity in particular. Just an odious cocktail of toxic messages and demonstrable nonsense.

I would have to disagree with most of the comments here.. Having heard this tune a lot in the 80's, my impression is he's calling out to the "zombies" to show yourself and be recognized, don't hide in the dark.. which is not necessarily a bad thing.. Zombies refers to the downtrodden, the homeless, persecuted, the defeated, the suffering, etc.. as Jesus did to try to help the forgotten.. Hooters are implying that people in high places, engaging in corporate greed, are the root cause for a lot of the suffering, and so it exists today.. The call out to the "zombies", is on a positive note, in an attempt to give them some kind of hope..

The song is about people, especially those in power, blithley ignoring the truth and what is actually going on to further their own agendas at the expense of the world and humanity as a whole. Even more relevant today, if you ask me.

As a Delaware Valley person from that era....always preferred the original version I used to hear on "mmr....I think it was from Antenna......it's been awhile. Never liked the more polished version

@@SkinnyV19103 No,, your not supposed to wash it off,, instead cherish it like a badge of honor 🤪..I agree,, it's not only disgusting,, it's a vile & degrading act,, but for some rock acts/fans,, it's somehow supposed to be cool in some kind of sick & twisted way..I am a founding member & former singer/songwritier/musician of a punk band & I can tell you that we NEVER did anything like that & if a fan did it,, we would have them immediately removed..As my father used to say about disrespectful/vile/twisted actions like that,, "That's The best way I know to find yourself waking up while picking up your teeth with a broken arm" 🤪...R.I.P. Dad..Love & Miss You. 🙏 ❤️

@@SkinnyV19103 OR...Maybe she thought that you would scrape it off & into some kind of special vile/test tube,, have her sign it,, then make a custom stand for it in your home with special lighting. 🤪
