with the narrow beam on the other hand we can relatively well assess that the fish is near the deeper. with the narrow beam in a practical sense.

Fish move though. By the time you have done all that switching you could have covered all those areas the large beam showed fish in with a lure. Use a rattling lure and it may come along anyway, especially with a start stop pause retrieve

Fishes can't hear rattling lure most of the time. They are not able to catch high frequencies instead of some species like cats & carps.
