It’s sad how things are being shoved under the carpet and kids told to keep their heads high, if this were adults this would be taken seriously. I got told I was weak by teachers whilst enduring severe physical and mental abuse at my school, yes, kids don’t fully grasp the concept but hallo... the amount of mental and physical damage the kids can take and have to deal with during adulthood should be addressed and taken seriously.

This was such a beautiful thing to do for this girl. That attack (and the school doing nothing to protect her) must have been seriously traumatising. This might not make that go away, but giving her a special, positive experience she can associate with that memory, where she was cherished and respected, will help a lot with healing.

I think that is a deep rooted problem. Think about it, since when does society even Care about bullying? Probably around 20-30 years, before it was "kids being kids". Unfortunately most teachers still don't know how to handle those situations. The media usually doesn't help because what is presented there is often an extreme portrail of bullying, making people think less extreme means it's not really bullying. In this particular case one has to consider that she's 8. The ones who did this to her are probably too so a) the school doesn't want to ruin the bullies lifes and b) they never expected anything like this. When it comes to kids, most people don't see themselves in a responsibility, the parents should deal with that. I don't think the bullies who did that should be expelled or get a beating (as Seen in the comments) but need to understand their actions. I would recommend a suspention and mandatory talks to a psychologist so that when they apologise, they mean it, maybe agression training. The school is in a position to make their parents do this, so they should. Either act on our terms or search for another school, and have the incident on the records.

I’m crying so hard. I was bullied relentlessly for my disabilities from the time I was 6 until I was 16. We all wish we had someone from outside our family unit (who are pretty much obligated to say “you matter” and “you’re beautiful”) to remind us that we were put on this earth for a reason. A close friend of mine committed suicide in my school about a year after I left. The principal came to the funeral and gave his speech while heart broken and said that something needs to be done. We need to make our schools a safe place for kids to be saved from seeing death as the only way out. That was the start we all needed, admitting it is a huge problem

Please! It fails at everything! This man my mom used to know went through all of school getting passes. Years later, he realizes he can't actually read. Neonbuffalogirl at my school someone was bullying my friend so me and a group of my other friends including the one that was getting bullied told the bully we know and walked away and then few min later we wear by our selfs the group of us off away from recess and she comes over and starts yelling at us and then tries to fight me and then after she was off me ( she was going after my friend so I stepped in front of her) she doesn’t get her was she yells the f word well more like screams it because people on the other side of the playground turn their heads to look but recess monitors that were a few yards away don’t even come over turn their heads or anything they just continued to talk and well after that we tried to calm her down and after lunch I tell the dean of students about that and it takes weeks for her to change besides the fact that she gives us the stink eye every time she sees us and sent the worst apology ever like one that was like a automatic answering machine
