Samsung Galaxy S5 Dead Fix

Just wondering at 2:18 when you place you're soldering iron near the pads you removed a small part. Looked like a circuit component. And I didn't see it get replaced :/. Anyway you are my idol I started hot air reworking from watching you do it. You rock!!!

Noticed cleaning of the the motherboard pads done with a conical JBC? solder tip. I'm assuming this from the bulb of metal above the tip. When I (try to)copy with my Hakko conical tip(fx 951 solder station set to 400 celcius) it doesn't seem to get hot enough and instead spreads the solder across the pads in a semi solid coagulated mess..... everytime. Should this pad cleaning be able to be done with any soldering iron tip? Or only a JBC with it's heavy metal mass(and superior heat transfer) above the tip?

You want to preheat the whole board, like 40-50C Ideally sit it on something warm while you do it. The board sucks the heat out too quickly when it is cold. You keep the whole board warm, it'll flow beautifully. Be sure to use extra flux, and some braid would be handy too. I repair electronics and do surface mount component work.

Have you replaced the Display IC on an S5 before? I have an S5 of a customers, and the screen is playing up, screen jerking and twitching. Lcd replacement hasn't solved it, neither has a hard reset, cache wipe, data wipe etc. I believe it is the display IC.

I think you first need to understand that there are software issues, and hardware issues, and learn to differentiate the two, before having customers pay you alot of money for repairs you obviously have no lead on. Wiping caches of sorts, or "hard resetting" electronics will not fix hardware issues, while replacing screens won't solve software issues, please, don't work in a field you don't have a clue about, invest in studying instead.

nice, but i have a question, how did you know that the power ic is the problem, what are the symptoms you see in the cellphone which come in to conclusion that the power uc is the problem, are you using a "trial and error" system or there is aprocedure you follow

Great video but a bit complicated for me to do. I really need advice, hence reason for watching your video.... My auto rotation stopped working on my S5. At first I took battery out and replaced which cured it for a few hours, then not working again. I did a standard factory re-set which again worked for a while... I then did the FULL re-set by holding three button in at same time. This again worked for a little bit then not working again. I took phone to a Samsung phone shop near me and they said the gyro sensor is on the motherboard and must be faulty so needed a new mother board and would cost £170 to be fixed. I looked on ebay and can get another motherboard for £35 guaranteed working. Do you think it is a motherboard that I need to permanently fix the phone? Hope you can help waddac2
