To everyone reading this: I learned that shortcut in the "Introduction to Linux"-course that is offered[/sponsored] by the Linux Foundation. As far as I know it works in *all* Linux file-managers. (For example: In the "Introduction to Linux" course, when they were showing you that shortcut and teaching you that shortcut, in the demonstration-video they were showing that shortcut being done in Ubuntu with the Gnome desktop-environment, but it (ie. the shortcut) also works-in Fedora and OpenSUSE, and it's also worked for me in Linux-Mint with the "Cinnamon" and "Mate" (ie. Continuation of Gnome-version-2) and "XFCE" desktop-environments, and Manjaro with the "KDE" desktop-environment. And in my [current] daily-driver: "EndeavourOS"-Linux with the "KDE" desktop-environment). Edit: @Wilbur-Jaywright's--of-below: I dunno what link you were asking for, but KZbin has deleted-automatically a total of 5-times my reply to your post (in which I copy-pasted the webpage-link to the main-page about the Course as well as the Zdnet article that announces the course and/or talks about the course). You'll need to go to the Linux-Foundation website to find more-info about the course. Also: Thankyou for the Happy-4th-of-July wishes :-) .
A log of people get bent out of shape when a distro's DE looks like Windows, or Mac, and I don't understand why. No one's making them use that specific distro. Besides, the great thing about Linux (as I keep saying) is it's many many choice availability. That includes the ability to have your desktop look similar to another OS. Also, you can't fool me, Mirror Nick (aka Other Nick). I know it's you. The different filming location (different from what we normally see) is a dead give away.

It so happened that I tried Deepin for the first time just a couple of days ago, and it's, like... it feels very...not ready to use? Like, for example, you just can't set your mouse cursor speed exactly how you'd want to, it's always either too fast or too slow. And for some reason there are two separate keyboard settings? Both of them can set up different layouts for one language (QWERTY, Dvorak, Colemak etc.), but only one of them can actually set up a different input *language*. Oh, and the shortcut to switch between those is CTRL+Shift, which I've never encountered in my life and which I also find slightly annoying. I hope that the devs will get their payment, because the distro actually has some potential to be a very nice home PC operating system...

DEEPIN looks nice out of the box, but it's a bit too colorful and with a bit too many animations. It has a feeling of Windows 11. I think KDE Plasma overall looks better, it's lightweight, but it's a bit buggy at times. Gnome is pretty stable, hate the default layout, it's pretty heavy, but it's the single DE I can say has pretty stable Wayland implementation. I have hope in the Cosmic shell from Pop OS!, it looks polished, has most of the things you want without needing extensions. If they bring Wayland support as good as Gnome and make it a bit more lightweight, it might be one of the best DE.

@braelinmichelus2 жыл бұрын
No, Pop!_OS doesn't use Wayland... yet. System76 made their own implementation of 1:1 trackpad gesture support. Their still one of the only holdouts still hanging on to X11... which I appreciate. As much as Wayland looks really cool with smooth gestures and the promise to be better than X. I'm all for new code, and replacing the old with the new. But Wayland just isn't 100% their yet... I still see screen-tearing all the time, screen capture is all but non-existent, and plenty of apps,' especially games just don't work outside of X11. And that's saying nothing on hardware acceleration... I'll end this little diatribe with: I look forward to a better future with Wayland... but I'm still gonna wait it out till it's 100% as good as X11... and them some.

Back in the day, if memory serves, Linux distros like Mint, OpenSuse, Fedora, and etc were backed mostly by their parent enterprise company. I was trying to show my wife what distros and what DE's are. Everywhere I looked, it was like I was looking at a racing car, or a sports stadium. What the hell happened? I know I took about an 8 year break from Linux (for reasons not applicable to my question). But, damn, it's like I had been away from it for 100 years. My take on Deepin when I tried it earlier this year is that it seems a great system to use in education. For primary schools and kids in 5 to 14 years age group. If so it would explain the walled garden that, to me, underpins Deepin. The coolness of a Mac OS with the fall back to a Windows-like OS all within a usable and manageable network environment. It looks cool enough for school kids and as school kids mature it can easily be replaced with something similar but more adult like,. for example, MX21 I admit that MX21 is my daily use distro (apart from when I use other ones)

Deepin is a pretty desktop indeed, if a bit rough around some of the edges. I'm guessing that the outdated versions of software in the app store are a result of the distro being based on Debian's stable branch? That distro does like to ship well tested versions of software instead of the latest and greatest. Not a bad thing per say, having assured stability is nice for certain tasks. Not sure if it's great for the desktop however.
