I haven't seen your videos be recommended lately, weird. Personally I used to like Firefox but much of their company 'messaging' in recent years has been a bit 'eh', it's also slow and I feel has been giving me display issues with the web that I just don't get with Chromium browsers. I like Brave and it's my browser of choice, I would use Vivaldi aside from their feature bloat.

I would love to move back to Firefox but one of the issues I run into are some of the limits to video streaming services. Some streaming services only offer the highest quality streaming option if you are using a Chromium based browser. If anyone has some suggestions or Insight into how to avoid this limitation, please let me know.

being able to run Windows games isn't the win Linux gamers think it is. Mac OS has always had more native games available but recently it's also making a huge push to bring tripple A game developers into porting their games. the moment Proton launched the moment developers stopped trying to make native linux games.

Firefox seems stable, especially when I play this web MMO game tankionline. When ever I use chrome based browser, Tanki works for a while but then crashes and heats up the CPU, sort of scares me. OperaGX on Win11 looked nice, but I don't like that idea a Chinese Consortium controls it and they never ported to Linux been like 2 years now.

I've been using the Mullvad browser with stock settings since the manifest announcement earlier this year. The JS-heavy websites it breaks I stay away from anyway. I'm also blocked from the wallstreet journal lol🤣😂 Great browser, I like it a lot. I also like firefox dev edition too.

If only Mozilla kept focusing on Firefox and Thunderbird - we'd be in a much better position these days. Firefox is still trash to use with enterprise apps like Teams - and until this changes, its never going to be a serious competitor. It needs things like audio mixing / device selection that they've refused to implement for close to a decade. Meanwhile, Thunderbird still begs for donations because Mozilla completely ignore it. All the time while burning through cash for projects that nobody but mozilla cares about.

I have used Firefox, starting when it was called something else (I forget what it was, anyway the name Firefox is much cooler). I'm the kind of guy for whom Internet Explorer had only a one-time use: to download Firefox. With Linux I didn't even need that! Good, good. I have tried Google-based browsers but I didn't like them. They feel clumsy to me. I might try WaterFox, or other Firefox derivatives if the Firefox team tries something stupid, we'll see.

Just say that Vivaldi is "the KDE of Browsers". If there are any features you don't need, just don't use it. It doesn't get in the way! And you can customize the interface and the menus (ALL menus) a lot.

I'm surprised there was no mention of Pale Moon, which is an OLD fork of Firefox (2008?). They use their own store and their own rendering engine.

But Opera DOES have its own extension store, and if they’re continuing to support V2 then it may become the go-to store for V2-preserving chromium browsers

Since lots of people are talking about this, I'm gonna put my take on it. xD The reason why lots of people switched to Chrome back in the day, was because Firefox was a mess. I'm talking back in 2008-2010, long time ago. It crashed constantly, had lots of slowdown and memory issues, the plugin system was crashing down due to too many malicious crap or plain insecure poorly coded riddled with vulnerabilities stuff in the list, and things had been getting increasingly worse for a while back then. Google did not have the awful fame it has today, and it came out with Chrome that was faster, cleaner, the plugin system was sparse but also worked way better, and so many people switched to it. Over the years, Firefox also revamped their entire plugin system, optimized stuff, I think they also did an entire rework in the browser engine, plus lots of optimization. And when invasion of privacy really started ramping up, they came out as an alternative for those privacy conscious. This is still sometime ago mind you, Mozilla just is not the company that it was half a decade or so ago. That's when I started using it again, but because of local problems, I had to use it in parallel to Chrome. Some stuff that I have to use on a daily basis sometimes works better on Chromium, sometimes better on Gecko, sometimes exclusively in one of those. When Brave came out, I switched to it. Google's reputation was already down in the sh*thole, and Brave came out with promises or protecting user privacy natively, without requiring plugins. Yeah, the CEO is an asshole, and from start Brave came out with a bunch of web3 crap I didn't really care for... but testing it out I saw that it was easy enough to disable this entire side of it, so I'm still using it - as long as the company doesn't start ramping up and forcing web3 crap, it's fine. They have crypto crap, rewards crap, and now AI crap too, but you can disable it all. But of course, much like Firefox, the moment Brave decides to switch directions towards a more aggressive approach, is the moment I'll uninstall and switch to something else. Both Firefox and Brave are on my "keep an eye" list. I don't personally feel Firefox is too far from also going bad. It's all of their recent decisions that give me pause. Then again, it's just that I don't really find it too hard to switch to other browsers... contrary to switching OSs, which I should've already done. xD I've tested a ton of browsers ever since the Internet came out. My first browser was Netscape. xD I used Opera back when it wasn't owned by a Chinese conglomerate (it was originally Norwegian), went through a whole ton of Firefox derivatives over the years particularly on mobile, and so on. Next shift might be coming soon I guess. Perhaps a combination of another Firefox derivative with another Chromium based browser. About CEOs... the sad thing about this is that if you look too much into CEOs of most of these companies, you'll end up with no Browser. Mozilla is pretty much as problematic as Brave, since the Brave CEO came from it. The current interim CEO in Mozilla also went through a whole ton of other companies that you will likely not be a fan of - eBay, PayPal, Skype, AirBnb. Vivaldi's CEO actually came from Opera. He left the company after he had disagreements with management. These newer entrants to the market, like Zen, Floorp and others, I don't even know who is in the lead. There's little information on them, which is also true for all the Firefox private alternatives... so you kinda have to blindly trust it's gonna keep going. Tons of browsers that had privacy in mind with open source code and all of that started having problems with updates, spotty maintenance, and infighting among developers over the years, so you kinda have to content with that too. Arc browser I know it's from a guy who worked for Facebook and government in the past. So you see. it's always going to be some problem or another. :P Anyways, here's another suggestion to check out for those interested: Mullvad Browser. The company is from Sweden, and they have a VPN service. They are also focused on privacy and security. Browser was made in conjunction with the Tor Project team, but it can work without Tor. I haven't tested it myself, but it's likely the one I'm jumping to if Firefox starts behaving badly (it's also Firefox based).

I am using Firefox since the first Firebird days. Firefox never let me down. As a developer I am using many other brothers for professional purposes. But for all kind of casual and private browsing I will stick with Firefox as long as possible. All extensions are working well and I am enjoying an ad-free, safe browsing. I hope Firefox will benefit from the current situation because seen through the glasses of "IT politics" Firefox is the most user friendly browser. IMPORTANT: You did not mention the huge contributions Mozilla made to the Open Source community. The Rust language was basically developed to improve the stability and memory model of Firefox and since Mozilla made Rust an open source project Rust is rising and loved by many developers. Some Rust code gets nowadays even used in the Linux kernel.

I never seem to have problems accessing Google sites using Firefox. Am I missing something? Also, the Firefox mobile app (on iPhone) is my favorite mobile browser. And of course uBlock Origin works great. Sort of humorously, I had never installed an adblocker until Google said I couldn't. I guess that's the stubborn kindergartner in me still shining through. 🙂 We also had a problem with Chrome at work this week - it was having issues if a text string contained a substring inside of angle-braces, i.e. "This caused <A> problem in Chrome". I wasn't involved in debugging or fixing this so I don't have specifics. Apparently a "fixed" version of Chrome rolled out mid-week that corrected the issue. Edge started having problems when their latest version rolled out, but the problems were still there as of yesterday (last time I checked). Firefox was unaffected. Just curious if anyone else say anything like this.
