DeepSeek cost only $5M to develop. That's like saying a Lambo cost $50. It's ridiculous, so ridiculous I shake my head at media saying that with a straight face. Wall street woke up and look at the price of Nvidia recover.

I completely agree. I cannot see China producing something with a cost saving on sale of 100× that of chat gpt. I would be interested to see how much it actually cost as I reckon the savings are huge.

@@sausagesuprise1942 : It would surprise me if it was a total fake. I know we could not get it to work at all offline but others are saying they can. Does the App use a backdoor as you have to give it admin rights. I'm not going to waste anymore time with it as my (tiny) orders for Nvidia stock missed out. C'est La Vie. BTW, if you look hard a bloke who has a god record in the area reckons he found 50,000 Nvidia H100 (???) GPU's that are in their possession. The US will not be impressed if that has happened. Who knows, time will tell.

@@gazell3s It is, but I think it's also important to keep in mind that deepseek was trained on chatGPT. So without the predecessor there could have been no deepseek. I think the markets will recover from this one blow, but only the future will tell whether the current tech giants are overpriced or not. I guess the value is driven by the rather abstract story that future A.I. will be able to drive value in ways we cannot possibly imagine yet. But I cannot ever see western companies just accepting chinese made A.I. infrastructure even if it will be better then the one we might produce. As with the economical and military race, I suppose this race will just continue on forever as well.

In the past two years I occasionally check back with various LLMs to see if they're any good. Each time I come away disappointed. I had Gemini give me the exact opposite answer to the same prompt. ChatGPT continues to BS when it doesn't know the answer. The MS LLM seems the least bad, but still not worth using.
