Always enjoy your discussions and true and honest approach to a subject. I'm currently trying to improve my land and deer habitat near Andalusia Alabama. It's all hand tools and heavily wooded. But I'm making great progress with much of your great advice and insights. Thank you for sharing . 😊

I although culling doesn't effect antler potential, could culling could be used for selective antler shape?
@GrowingDeerTV4 ай бұрын
Research shows no heritable traits - not size, shape, etc., can be managed by culling a wild, free-ranging herd of whitetails. Remember - there is no pedigree. Without a pedigree, hunters can only base culling on phenotypic expression or what they see. They have no idea if what they see is a result of environment or genetics.

Have you found carolina snailseed to be an inferior or superior browse compared to smilax?
@GrowingDeerTV4 ай бұрын
I see more browse on smilax. I suspect some folks call both species by the same name.

Does attribute as much or more to a bucks antler potential. So if you have a lot of poor antler size in your herd... harvesting those matriarch does surely has to help reset those genetics as you encourage more young does to use a property. Also "culling" a mature 7 point will allow more territory for potentially larger antler less mature deer rather than pushing those bucks off the property. It will also allow more groceries for the other bucks by killing that ugly mature 7 point.

Certainly harvesting enough does to balance the number of deer with the amount of groceries year round is very important for the herd's health!
