Congrads on Bambino #2! I just got through on Wednesday processing a buck that I shot on the 18th. Had him in the cooler on ice all that time. I thought it was a big doe. I had my .30-30 (no scope) and shot it at the base of the neck at about 60 yards. Wasn't looking for bone! It dropped like a sack of 'taters. BUT.... That broken rack 3 pointer kinda screwed me. In the county that I hunt in VA, there's the "Earn a Buck Program". The first buck can be any size. THEN you have to fill an antlerless tag BEFORE you go for a second buck, which must have at least 4 points on one side. I went out on the evening of the 20th. What came by me? A spike, another 3 pointer and a nice 8 pointer. No does to be found! I was whispering under my breath to the spike and 3 pointer, "Go back in the woods and bring out ya damn Momma!".

I'm from Tennessee and this is the one deer camp video I anticipate each year. Words of wisdom from Ron. Doe running amuck. You northern boys really know how to enjoy the whole experience. I usually have to hunt alone because many of my co workers that hunt act like its a big secret and don't want to get together. Anyway I feel like I'm part of the hunt when I watch your videos and I enjoy them a lot. I hope there is a part two, or more to come.

Love you using one of the old military rifles for your doe hunt. I hope you keep it up with some other ones. Keep Ron busy finding them for you... You have done the US Krag, the German Mauser, the Russian Mosin Nagant. A Lee Enfield #4 or extra special the Canadian Ross would make this BC boy pretty excited! Of course a P14/P17 or 1903 Springfield would be pretty cool too...

I bought one of those 1898 30-40 Krags from a buddy of mine that runs a gun store in Washington County PA. He's from Clarion County too, he's a fan of the channel, and he said he's familiar with you folks on the channel. Not bad price, $250, was going to hunt with it, but sold it to my dad, he always wanted one.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
@Leatherwoodoutdoors Жыл бұрын
Well, maybe he'll let ya borrow it sometime. That 30-40 krag was my grandfather's gun. I always wanted it. But he decided one Christmas to give each of the grandkids a gun. We had to draw numbers out of a hat. My cousin got it. The first thing I said was, you gotta let me kill a deer with that and he said sure thing! The rest is history.

@@Leatherwoodoutdoors yeah, my dad always lets me borrow his guns. Right now I have his Belgian Browning Auto 5 Light Twelve for pheasant hunting that belonged to my great grandfather. Bobby did get a nice buck wow. Looks way bigger on film than the still picture. Bobby and i were in Boy Scouts together. Used to go small game hunting a lot. Man i was bummed when they moved to Florida. Great family. We were winter camping one time at Camp Coffman up by Knox. Btw there is a giant rock there that has a running buck carved in it with a date. At winter Boy Scout camp, We were in a bunk room in a cabin. There was probably 2 foot of snow outside. Bobby ripped a fart and there was a yellow haze/fog so thick you could see it and it stunk so bad !!!! We ran outside in the snow even the adults went outside and we all stood outside till it cleared.

@@Leatherwoodoutdoors i camped several times night before trout season in the late 70’s early 80’s, at the bridge on the road toward porter school can’t remember the road name. I live your footage along there. Always lived all the hemlocks and would vision what it was like for Indians and pioneers and your flint lock stuff captures that so well. As scouts We used to do the baker trail start up by Corsica and hike through Summerville camp two nights. That was fun it’s well worth the work. Ridden it a couple Times on my mountain bike from Summerville Over to Dayton. The section that comes along the Mahoning it’s really beautiful. The trail comes out where my mom lived and used to ride that a lot. I’ve been in Virginia since 93 now. My son moved up there to go To clarion lived with my sister and mom to save on boarding costs for school married a local gal never came home he works at brookville high school he’s the athletic trainer there. He says dad why did you ever move from here man it’s beautiful. He loves to trap. I called smoker and he gave him a crash course one day and he’s been hooked ever since.

I started deer hunting as a kid in Pennsylvania..I'm old enough to remember when it was bucks only, one per year... success rate was 10 % ..I hunted for four yrs before I ever got a shot at a buck... Amazing how much it's changed...I sometimes see as many as 5 bucks in one day in the woods. We really have lived through a golden age for deer hunting..I live in Virginia now...deer bear and turkey are plentiful..
