Animal rescue would have likely put it out of its misery. That deer was old enough for capture myopathy to be a real danger, so with how long they would have had to keep it captive in order to treat that leg, it would have died anyways.

all these people saying they should have called animal rescue are you stupid? like seriously. the only people that would have showed up are fish and wildlife or the DNR or whatever they're called in that state. and that would have been an hour or two later after the deer bled to death or completely snapped its leg or don't even more damage to itself. rural areas like that don't have wildlife rescues like big cities where they'll come out and pick up a pigeon with a broken wing and nurse it back to health. fish and wildlife would have showed up an hour or two later if they showed up at all and they would had to cut the fence, but they would have to get the landowners permission to do that so they would either have to call the landowner or drive to his house which would take longer, more than likely they would have shot it while it hung in the fence. something similar happened to me when I lived in far Northern Michigan, I came across the deer that clearly been hit by a car both of its front legs were broken it was bleeding and it was screaming in pain. I called the department of natural resources and they asked me if I had anything to put it out of its misery with I said yes and they told me just to do it and wait there while they dispatched an officer. over an hour later a DNR officer showed up took a couple of pictures wrote a couple of things down and asked me if I wanted to keep it for the meat. I told him no go ahead and donate it to a homeless shelter or something and he said they couldn't because they'd have to test it for chronic wasting disease and a bunch of other crap first so I just took it home and ate it. this isn't like the big city where you have people that'll come out and rescue stray puppies and birds with broken legs or broken wings, or Lost pet turtles.😂 this is the country where they have one sheriff's deputy for every 75 miles a road they have to patrol. you are literally wasting their time by calling about something like this
