I like this video. The method used to prepare the crab is different to how we do it here in Trinidad and Tobago. We normally clean/gut the crab before we put it n the pot (they are already dead by the time they are ready to enter the pot). And we normally cook our crab in either a curry sauce ("Cury crab") or in a kind of thick 'soup' we call callaloo.

why did you break off the stone crab claws? why not just eat the whole thing?
@PhysioA10 жыл бұрын
Best meat in the claws, and the claws are enough. Do you know, how long a craps need to be fullgrown? The claws will grow faster, then to wait until juvenile craps full grown.
@rdurkee8410 жыл бұрын
As previous poster stated, stone crabs take a long time to grow. It's best to break off 1 claw and throw the crab back so they can spawn and next year there will be even more claws to harvest. Reason I say 1 claw is so the crab can defend itself against other crabs and predators as well as catch food.
@PhysioA10 жыл бұрын

@squad8278 жыл бұрын
They grow back very quickly
@jmmstinger8 жыл бұрын
They only take off one claw
@NickSibz8 жыл бұрын
crabs have a second set of smaller claws by their mandibles that they actually use to eat, the big claws are mostly for holding food or defense. They grow back very quickly.
@rustymartell17438 жыл бұрын
I know that. I live on the southern coast of Oregon, there's plenty of crabs. my question is/ was how can that crab eat? The claws are critical to holding their food as the mandiibles do their job. Why not take the entire crab? There is plenty of meat left other then the claws. My point is Nick, and I'm not judging, that is illegal to do just taking claws in some states. Why? because it circumvents the limit laws, it doesn't discriminate between acceptable size, and it doesn't allow the fisheries to determine if a female crab, which needs it's defenses, was de clawed. No hard feelings dude. I'm not trying to be difficult, I"m trying to understand.
@copicmarker12857 жыл бұрын
I think he took the claw off so that it wouldn’t pinch his dogs. They were in the water when he put the crab back in. Taking one claw off also won’t kill the crab
@clydeng8710 жыл бұрын
I find it odd that you Caucasians don't eat the internal yellow stuff. For Asians, it's the best part of eating a crab...
@Trisark10 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, its the best part of it alright. I usually take the top shell and fill it up with rice and eat it from there. The yellow orange stuff is the best.
@jameslong401210 жыл бұрын
There are reasons why people don't eat the yellow stuff. Food is plenty so one can have the luxury to choose. Second, people know that in the yellow stuff is where toxic chemicals and pollutants are stored there. That yellow stuff is the fat of the crab. That is why it taste so good. Crabs are full of bacterias and pollutant chemicals so wash them well if you are eating the shell part of the crab. Wash the crab and shrimp well will keep you safe from problems these seafoods will give you. Clams and Oysters are full of bad bacterias. Some people are so sensitive even when they ate raw Oyster with fresh Lime juice still send them to the emergency room. Food poisoning is no laughing matter. This is one thing you will have to take it seriously. Back in the day when the world wasn't modernized Seafood was safe to consume. Not anymore. I take especially good care in the preparation of all Seafoods especially Crabs, Shrimps, Oysters, and all Clams.

James Long If a crab is in polluted water then the whole crab is contaminated. If caught in clean water the whole crab is safe to eat. Europeans eat the whole crab as well not just Asians. My 92 year old grandfather has been eating the whole crab since he was a child. Soooo yeah.

I lived in SE Alaska for 15 years and I vote for fresh King Crab. Most people in the Lower 48 have never had fresh King or Snow Crab. Once crab is frozen it doesn't taste as good. But I like all the kinds of crab I've tasted. Here in Oregon it's fresh Dungeness. I spent part of this morning picking Dungeness our neighbors brought us. A couple of crab cocktails tonight and I'll make crab cakes tomorrow evening using my own recipe. BTW, if you've never had deep fried King Crab leg sections with fresh King Crab you haven't lived.
