My granddaughter shot her first deer a few years ago. I think she was 10 or 11. When she got the meat back from the processor and was helping put it in the freezer she looked up at her momma with pride and said “Mom, I’m providing for my family” You wife talking about providing made me think of that and how proud I am of my granddaughter for thinking the way she does. Western Colorado late season elk hunt on private land. Doesn't get any better. Works out good when you help the rancher gather cattle in the fall and plow snow to their haystacks during a blizzard. Great hunting when you're buddies with them and they won't let anyone else on their property. Fond memories. PS. For some reason I can't explain. Worchestershire sauce works real well with elk. Better than with mule deer venison. Don't know much about cooking white tail, never shot one.
