Thank you for the honest review. I bought my first DSLR in Vietnam in 1970 and have been shooting ever since. As a Nikon shooter for the last 35yrs I acquired my first Fugi about a year ago and never looked back. I love this XH1. There was a learning curve in the beginning but I loved being challenged by all the great features of this rig. I train wild mustangs and the training videos I can get with this camera (hand held) are simply the best. So thank you for reinforcing what I already felt about this camera and it's capabilities. Cheers,

OMG - love this review. So many gear heads out there pretending to understand photography. They buy new gear yet their work doesn't improve at all. And I love it when they buy expensive gear and take photos of their cat to show the "bokeh" and "sharpness." Too bad they become obsessed with gear while they should be obsessed with creating great images. Whenever I show my portfolio to people, no one ever talks about the sharpness, the bokeh or what camera I used. They are in awe of the image. Thanks for all the work you put into this channel!

I'm still using an XT2. It was Fuji's flagship camera when launched until the XT3 XT4 and now XT5. The image quality on my XT2 hasn't degraded since the launch of the newer models so I will happily use it till it dies or falls under a truck. People always think the grass is greener with newer cameras but in reality they do the same job as the old ones if you know how to use a camera properly. The lenses are probably more impotant than the body.

I still really enjoy the X-H1 and have used it on paid gigs. Ergos are great and tracking is decent in AF-C with either 3x3 or 5x5 zone modes - even when shooting fast sprinters. Low light is OK if you shoot RAW, try to keep it to ISO 6400 and lower, and add a touch of NR in post. It really helps to have a fast prime for low light, although I usually shoot with the 2.8 zooms the the H1 pairs perfectly with. You’re right - it’s a great camera and has always been very underrated.

Enjoyed your thoughts on this one Dee. I like Fuji's regular camera replacement cycle & peoples willingness to trade in perfectly capable cameras for the latest model as it has enabled me to acquire a great range of X models for a fraction of their original cost. The X-H1 is one that I've been considering for a long time, the better ergo's and IBIS for manual lens use would be big positives for me, and price wise it has almost reached my self imposed limit of paying GBP 500 for a body, outstanding value at that price for a relatively recent flagship model.

Shoot your wedding/portrait/ sport gig with a manual focus camera like we used to have to do, you’ll never complain about autofocus again. And as for this 8 bit/10 bit debate, if your not good enough to get good work done with 8 bit, don’t market yourself as a videographer to clients until you can. A bad workman always blames his tools.

This kinda brings me back to the X-Pro 3 videos you made a longer while ago. I was within the Canon ecosystem but was looking for a smaller setup and in the end decided to buy a X-Pro 3 and two lenses that suit my needs - didn´t regret it since then. It´s just like you said in this video and the X-Pro videos as well, the damn thing can basically do everything you really need a camera to do + no constant image checking on the back screen. Sure it has it´s "edges" - just like the X-H1 - and sometimes I maybe feel like I could have invested the money into something less... "special" and do better with a X-T5 or X-H2. Yet every single time when there´s a good occasion to take photos, the X-Pro never disappoints me. It´s always fun to use that camera and the quality it can produce is just spot on. I feel like it will be the same with the X-H1 (or basically most other fairly advanced, modern cameras from the last 5-6 years).

100 percent agree with you. There are way too many new people in this field that blame equipment for their lack of knowledge on how to use it. It is mind blowing how much people will spend a crap ton of money on gear that they are not prepared to learn how to use. The same ones that don't spend any time learning about the basics of composition/posing/lighting and SEEING light and just want to go out and charge money because they are "stepping outside the limitation of rules" that they were not willing to learn to begin with. I break rules all the time, that is because I have spend years learning them an learning how to break them. Anyways, rant over.

Awesome - one rant that I actually enjoyed. I hate the way we sell off our perfectly good cameras after a year and trade them off for some new 'floozy' that promises the world. Six months later we are disappointed again. I've just bought a X-H1 after foolishly selling them both off a while ago. I realise now they are the Japanese Leica and still one of the best cameras out there. I laugh the way all these so called 'pro' photographers complain because their camera doesn't have the very latest AFC. It's almost as if they are incapable of focusing on anything unless they are using the very latest technology. For somebody like me who for decades had to focus manually, the AFC on the X-H1 is still more than good enough.

Well said Dee - the X-H1 is a SUPERB camera. The rubbish talked about this camera by people who have never really used it reminds me of the crap talked about how terrible the Fuji XF-18mm F2 is, when the reality is the 18mm is a great lens but maybe at F2 the edges are a bit soft BUT that's not important when at F4 it's tack sharp. Ps I have 3 X-H1's and use them professionally and have NEVER had a single issue with them.

I bought an open-box X-H1 from eBay for $600 about a year ago (came with the battery grip bundle). All the accessories were brand new; and the camera looked like it was simply unwrapped to simply show a customer! In my 23 years of using eBay -probably the best bargain find ever. I think it's all about the glass. Went out with a buddy doing city skyline photography last week at night. He had a full-frame Sony A7R III with a Tamron F3.5 and I had my X-S10 with the Sigma 56mm F1.4. My pictures honestly looked better when shooting handheld because his F3.5 lens produced lots of noise (my X-S10 with tiny sensor with the F1.4 lens produced images that looked noise-free when shooting at ISO 200).

My photos and video were on point, but the clients are being told what level/codec/format etc a "true videographer" should have. Anyway, I am glad the X-S20 is here. I ordered it. I plan to do great work with it... Everyone on here says i is a good B-Cam. It will be my only, so, it is an A cam for me. I have the tamron 17-70mm f2.8 and I believe they will pair nicely. Well, sir, before I switched to Fuji, I used the Nikon D3X for years. And was overwhelmed about the quality and reliability of the gear and the shots I had been able to produce. Then I changed the system and got a X Pro 1 & 2 which I use until today. The progress Fuji made between both models was undeniable, especially related to speed and AF. But until today the cameras have a mot of issues with the AF. Which I often experience in studio with soft or smooth light but in landscape as well. What lead me to take always back up shots. Sure, there must be a difference between a body which costs 3-4 times more and the hardware and components used. But I got used to use Fuji as a system which has its charme and expects from the user to make compromises - therefore it is not that expensive and saves a lot of weight. But honestly spoken it has a lot of potential to be optimized. In the future as well. My issue withe the x-H1 wS, by the way, that the grip is to small for my fingers and tight between a wider objectives barrel and the grip to me. That’s why I still use the X-P1 & 2. Cheers

"If you've used this camera... you've grown to love it in some way, shape, or form" I've never heard truer words spoken about any camera body that i've ever used, I wish Fuji kept the dials on the XH2 so bad. An insanely capable camera with a truly affordable price tag for any beginner, armature, and professionals. The fact that people sleep on it just because they're obsessing over AF features they'll never use and the fact that it's not full frame is still insane to me.

Since then, I've been on the search for the perfect system where usability, handling, and results come together in the right balance with the price. After purchasing the XT1 two years ago, followed by the X2, I finally decided on the X-H1. Yes, it's often overlooked as a flagship, but for me, it's the best camera in this price-performance segment available. I love everything about it - the design, ergonomics, size, performance, and especially the colors in combination with Capture One. And right at this moment, I'm going to grab it, head outside, and create incredibly beautiful videos and pictures with it.

I've owned the XH1 a couple of times and it's always a joy to use. At the current prices for this camera, it's a really solid deal. I don't shoot professionally anymore, and never shot professionally with the XH1, but I can say using this camera for the type of photography I do, which is just sort of everyday documentary photography of my kid and life in general, this camera is leaps and bounds better than what I actually need. You hit on this point a couple of times: Fuji's updates. That's one of the things I love most about Fuji. Rather than looking at an older camera and abandoning it and placing all their latest tech into the new model with the hopes of having someone upgrade, they put new tech into old cameras by way of updates. In that way, they're keeping people in the Fuji ecosystem longer by having them invest in lenses rather than bodies. And it also keeps people using cameras longer before they upgrade where they would have the opportunity to consider another brand. I gotta disagree with you on the point about only professionals being able to have thoughts on a camera, though. I've shot a lot professionally, but I've shot a lot more for fun as a hobby, and have been doing so for nearly 20 years. I definitely think serious hobbyists have a lot of insight to offer on camera gear. I do agree that anyone that hasn't used a camera shouldn't be reviewing it as if they had, based on bullshit they read online or from speculating about a spec sheet, but I'd respectfully argue that hobbyists don't have good insight into how a camera performs and how it might perform in similar situations for similar photographers. Good content, as always though! Love your candidness and honesty in these reviews.

Thanks for the comment and I hope I didn’t make it seem like only professionals have opinions. I’m more along the line of don’t say something isn’t professional or bad if you’ve never put it thru the paces. The X-S20 never misses focus with eye tracking, but the X-H1 constantly switches to face detection, being unable to detect the eyes, and using this lens or any other fast lens (eg. 50mm f1.0), it is crucial that the focus is on the eye and not on the eyebrow (sometimes, it can be the eyeball and the eyelash). The X-H1 is a fantastic camera and it wipes the floor with the newer ones, but there are several areas in which the newer line just is worth it and will make your life better/ nicer/ easier/ whatev. I would love to take out more my X-H1, but the fact that this newer camera has almost half the weight of the X-H1, has better IBIS and will almost never miss focus (again, my specific day to day scenarios), I never take it out anymore. I genuinely miss the high quality feeling of that camera, and the customisation, and the dials... but most of the times I just need to take quick nice photos of things that are around me and to be able to transfer them to my phone without much editing/ sdcard switching/ cables and adapters etc.

Thank you very much for your comments. I love your honesty. Actually, I was looking forward to buying the XT-4. But, after watching your video, i have it clear…I shall buy a new XH-1. Thanks a lot for your advice!!!

There is a lot of uniqueness in older cameras. I used to look for these a year ago and they were sparse. But I will have to start looking again. Dang this was a good video

I’ll probably never use this camera but the advice i got in this video is far more valuable.

Thanks for this video as I was considering to get it second hand in 2023 to get my feet in video. Mainly I wanted the IBIS to at least be able to do a static handheld video.

my a6000 broke last december and it left me using a canon a1 and an olympus pen ft until i saved up enough for a new camera. i got this camera and it was everything i loved about being stuck with film without being stuck with scanning film. and a whole different planet than my a6000

that was my very first Fuji X-camera, I tried almost all of them (xt1, x100t-100f, xpro1-2-3) after XH-1 for couple of years I stopped on Xpro-3 and I looooved Xpro-3 soooo much, but once tried Leica M camera >> sold the Xpro-3 and moved to Leica M setup and today I bought this beast XH-1 again, not a professional photographer, just a simple enthusiast who wanted a camera for pleasure and camera for any situation (especially with a kid around)

I bought an X-H1 several months ago for under $600 and am very pleased. I wanted to buy a nice used X-Pro or X-T model, but those prices are ridiculously high. I've used Fuji cameras for more than a decade and the X-H1 is larger than the more compact Fuji bodies. The smaller size is a big reason why I switched to Fujifilm. But the X-H1 is not huge and it feels quite comfortable in hand. Early on I missed the exposure compensation knob, but I've adjusted to using the dial and it's no big deal. I'm 100 percent satisfied with the output of this camera and as a 50-something, I LOVE the big, bright viewfinder.

Forgot to mention that along with Fuji lenses, I enjoy using manual focus lenses with this camera, thanks greatly to that nice viewfinder.

Not specific to this camera but great mindset. Buy used, up your skill level and keep creating it's that simple. Great video!

Great video, you speak the truth! I use the X-H1 with a Metabones Ultra speed booster with Zeiss classic lenses and have great results. The IBIS with the yellow focus peaking is great with manual lenses.

I recently traded in an X-E3 for an X-H1 with the battery grip paying $300 out of pocket. For me the best trade ever. The EVF is what sold me and second is the grip and controls.

Brilliant review. I’ve had my XH1 from the get go and it ain’t going anywhere, love it.

I had enjoyed my xe3 a lot. The barrier to entry is quite low so long as you can edit a raw file. I’d say the old canon sensors were very noisy with poor dynamic range. Still produces good results. Video is a slightly different story but generally skill can bridge the gap in quality of gear.

Amazing comment. I think people don’t understand that point about skill bridging the gap. It’s so important.

great camera and great video man! got my 2 years ago for 550CHF with a grip and love it. Have also X-pro2 with the same sensor if I want to go slightly lighter, but the H1 is a beast and so nice to shoot with!

I've learned a lot from this one video. I'm not good enough yet and need to get good. Thank you. This camera is my upgrade from xt-100 I was worried about the specs for a little while. But it's me, I just need to get good.

I really like the way you think Dee ! You have so much common sense. I've had the XT-3 for about 2 years and I tend to use it a lot less than my two XT-1's, and I even use my X PRO 1, my XE-1 and my XE-2s more often. I'm looking to trade off my XT-3 for an X Pro 2 if I can find a person willing. I don't need all the resolution and prefer the more film like look anyway. I do prefer the rangefinder style cameras more, but I'll never get rid of my XT-1's ever ! I just realized that you were talking about the XH-1 and not the XT-1 ! I'm not a video guy at all, but I still enjoyed your video after watching it again and listening better !Thanks for another great video. LarryMac

NO camera manufacturer has ever been in the habit of lying, as he says. If that were truth, they'd be out of business.

I tried an xh-1. The only issues i had is that I absolutely hate its back screen and the lack of mic jack without the battery grip. Yes it takes great pictures...but its just not it for video work (which is mostly what I do) Fully articulated screens are a must. The rest is fine. No issues. Just a usability problem for me.

I love my XH1, got it brand new for a great price when the prices famously fell and have never felt the need to sell it. Even though I have the XH2S (which I keep specifically for video jobs and to lend to trusted friends due to the better battery and unlimited recording, among other upgrades), there's just something about this baby that I can't let go of it in photography. Also, thank you for this video. I'll certainly go ahead and use it as the second camera for my next short film as I earlier had a little anxiety about whether it will match well with the XH2S. Just need to plan the shots better and rehearse fully. This will also save us all a ton of time on the shoot instead of having to do multiple takes of entire scenes with multiple resets. Thank you for the reminder! I'll replan my pre production checks towards a multi-cam post workflow.

What a cracking video 👏🏻 I’ve owned the xh1 since 2019 and nearly sold it every year after watching a stupid of a KZbinr condemning the xh1 as the worst camera made by Fuji then I’ve resorted to keeping the camera after weighing up the good points and especially watching your videos I’ve cut down on buying new gear
