actually this is a movie based on a king of small province, Baji Rao (Played by Ranbir Singh). He was married to Kashi Bai (Priyaka Chopra) and later fell in love with Mastani (Deepika Padukone). This is a movie based on an epic story. How it goes with a king when he has to choose between legally wedded, devoted, loving wife and a soulmate (who is not accepted by the Hindu Bramhin society for being a Muslim)... what a queen suffers when she comes to know about her kings love.. And what an love suffers when it finds that it won't be accepted.

I LOVE THIS SONG! Thank you for reacting to this! In Bollywood ( the indian movie) they still practice 'singing' scene in movie. But the actor and actresses did not sing the song themselves. They just lip-sync. The song are sing by real singers. Their voices used as playback and the actors lip-sync them. The movie Bajirao Mastani is a sad-love story. Deepika (Mastani) is in love with the King but he is already married to Priyanka. So she became his concubine but their love is rejected by the King's mum. Priyanka is the poor queen who have to accept the fact that his husband has another lover. At first she is mad at Mastani but then she feel pity to her and begged her mother in law to accept Mastanai-bajirao's love. But they both died while being apart from each other.

The singer is shreya ghoshal here. In bollywood actors are not singing except priyanka chopra sometimes (in the title song dil dhadakne do for example). "Deewani mastani" means "Mastani is crazy (in love)". In this song she declares her love for peshwa ("prime minister") bajirao in front of everybody (bajirao's mother & wife...). It's a sufi style music, a indian-muslim style, it's a perfect match between indian and turkish/persian music, it's so beautiful 😍😍 the global idea of the song is that she lost herself in the love she has for him and she can't control anything now. She tries to say to him "look at what I became, where I came because of you". i just want to share few things about the Place here.. it was a historical movie about a ruler Peshwa Bajirao... The set is original no visual effects at all. made and decorated with completely with "mirror" as in the original history.The real palace is located in pakistan now(which was a part of India) at that time... the Director recreated it absolutely. In Bollywood it's very rare for the actors to sing the songs, they are usually done by very talented professional singers who specialize in singing for Bollywood movies. I will do my best to explain the plot leading up to this scene, but it is a bit complex so bear with me! The dancing woman is Mastani (played by Deepika Padukone) a princess of an Indian kingdom. At the beginning of the movie she goes to Bajirao (Played by Ranveer Singh, a Peshwa of the Maratha empire, akin to a Prime Minister under a powerful king and a man undefeated in battle) and convinces him to help save her kingdom from an invading army. They fight side by side, and she saves his life, earning a wound and Bajirao's respect and interest. He gifts her his favorite dagger, unaware that in her culture this is traditionally an act of marriage. He is already married, however (to the lovely woman in the balcony, Kashi, played by Preeyanka Chopra) and returns home to her. Mastani follows him, and upon arrival, meets his mother (the older woman in all white) who, learning Mastani believes herself to be wed to her already wedded son, prevents her from meeting with Bajirao and sends her away to stay with a house of court dancers. At the time the Maratha empire is fighting against the Mughal Empire, a Muslim dominated state that has ruled Hindu India for hundreds of years. Mastani, although her father is Hindu, being the daughter of a Muslim Courtesan, she is Muslim herself, further creating insult to Bajirao's Hindu family and religious Hindu figures within his country. In this song the intro is the man saying that an Apsara is coming, a type of classical Indian water/air spirit known for their beauty. So your comment that an angel is arriving is quite fitting, as Apsara are kind of akin to angels. Mastani is singing about how her love for Bajirao has driven her to a kind of intoxication that makes everyone think she's gone crazy. After his mother sent her to live with the court dancers she arrived at this celebration by dancing with them, allowing her to appear before him despite his mother preventing it. This is considered shameful, as women of her class do not dance like common entertainers, hence why the song is about her 'going crazy' as this is something a woman of her status would normally never do. It is also why his mother looks pleased to see Mastani arrive to dance, as she assumes this will disgrace Mastani enough to prevent her from pursuing her son, and in fact she will continue to demand Mastani dance at court events as further insult throughout the rest of the movie. Because Mastani is an accomplished warrior, intelligent, beautiful and saved Bajirao's life he respects her and falls to her charms anyway. The movie mainly revolves around the conflict that their love has created and their struggle to be together in a kingdom and family that wants to tear them apart.
