I love how Steve and Phil’s parts make the song just pop, I remember Phil saying they never wanted to play the same guitar parts because it would sound boring.

Any good two guitarist band should do this. Slash and Izzy always played different things that complimented each other.

One of the first songs I learned back in the day. Was lucky enough to see them on the Hysteria tour and wanted to play this live version so bad. I still treasure my black Les Paul Custom, though I've always wanted a Jackson. Thank you for these videos!!

This song is always a treat live however the HYSTERIA and ADRENALIZE tours had this song at another level. TLFL into this is up there with GOW and DHTH as the best 1-2 punch for me, and this show had both! Flawless playing as always!

Thanks! My favourite covers are usually the ones where the guitar is providing some cool, ambient, session style work. Usually stuff from Michael Landau, Jay Graydon, Dann Huff, Steve Lukather type work. But I do enjoy the odd shred every now and then.

Thank you for doing so much of Def Leppard, I love the band to my bones. Sounds amazing. Look forward for more of it. I always thought that Phil and Steve both used a fernandes sustainer but seeing your videos and achieving the same sound makes me wonder that I might have been wrong! Regards and keep rocking and sharing this great stuff!
@bwm5150 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! Phil only started using a sustainer in the 90’s and Steve didn’t have any on his touring guitars. In the studio they would use Ebows. Also, with natural and pinch harmonics, you can simulate the effects of an amp feeding back, which is what a sustainer sounds like.
@talentotech-p1e Жыл бұрын
@@bwm5150 Thank you! I knew you would shed some light about it. That intro with harmonics over that bass line is so powerful and subtle at the same time. Love it. Cheers!!

How would Phil switch from clean to distortion in those days, was it a pedalboard with effects or maybe someone switching his rack gear backstage?

In your cover of Steve's part, you have him playing the solo, but in your cover of Phil's part (this video), you have him playing the solo. Did they solo together? If so, then who's doing the rhythm during the solo? I'm not criticizing you at all, as the only reason I noticed is because I've watched both your covers many times. I can't get enough of how great they were at harmoniously blending their parts and accenting each other throughout to create such a layered ambient sound that speaks to a "sixth" sense that I think all humans have. It's like the feeling of being in love (moreso for the first time when you're very naive/inexperienced) - the warmth, happiness, security, trust etc. that overwhelms you to the point of expressing your vulnerabilities without any fear of compromising yourself, because you're so emotional and unable to think logically. Your playing excellently shows how great these two were together. They were very innovative as far as lead/rhythm playing goes. What had been traditional up to that point was a person playing a consistent rhythm with a lead performing the melody over top. These guy's changed the formula, both contributing to the lead/rhythm at different points. Amazing chemistry and "feel." Your covers showcase that.
@bwm5150Ай бұрын
Thanks! Joe plays the rhythm. If you watch the In The Round concert video, Joe is shown playing a guitar. The extended break after the second chorus before the solo starts is there so that Joe can be given a guitar.
@GuitarHeroPhenomSuxАй бұрын
@bwm5150 oh okay, thanks for clearing that up. I've admittedly watched your covers more exclusively than the video if that tells you how great they are. I'm a guitar guy, so I love watching covers to understand why songs can evoke emotions. Thank you for taking the time to learn, record, and share these covers with us.

If I have a single criticism to make is that your natural vibrato is too small and fast. This song is good because some of the vibrato is so slow you are forced to slow it down to match the original sound, but your "natural" way of doing vibrato is the only thing I'd wish you'd work on, because every thing else man, you've got it down to perfection !
@bwm5150 Жыл бұрын
It's always been a weakness of mine and something I try to work on. Please don't ever think I'm sitting here thinking I am flawless, I am far from that and know ever single flaw. But these vids aren't really to show off, they are just for referencing how to play these songs.
