To be honest, he is not my favourite person. When Steve Clark was still alive, he was a major contributor to the songwriting in the band, and I have seen interviews where Jo states this himself, saying that Steve wrote most of the music. In the period since Steve died, Joe has minimised his contribution to the band more and more, eventually making some quite nasty and unnecessary remarks about someone who was supposed to be a very close friend. I don’t know why he feels the need to contradict statements he has made before and almost denigrate Steve, just not nice. A good human being would not feel the need to do this. He certainly has a very healthy ego. Sav has always seemed to me the one who misses and grieves for him the most, not Phil nor Joe.

Joe Elliot is a die-hard collector of all things music bordering on madness probably. Def Leppard's own vault is massive with so many gems safely tucked away that they will remain relevant for a very long time. He's very scholarly indeed.

Joe is a great conversationalist and he always shines in interviews, he has an incredible memory, for names, data, anecdotes, it's wonderful to see him in interviews because he's the same, he doesn't pretend, he doesn't measure himself, but he never says anything inappropriate, because he is a gentleman I love the way he is.

Slang was different - and lots of people react badly to change. They want more of the same. There's some good stuff on Slang, and it is a Def Lep sound, but it's not like other albums. I remember it coming out, and people didn't know what to make of it. But then I love almost everything Def Lep has done, so I'm probably not the most objective analyser. Looking forward Drastic Symphonies next week, and the concert in July. As for the interview - there's a cat there! What's not to like? (A small house Leppard?)

Slang is a great album Joe! It's actually my favourite Leppard album because it was different, stripped back and a freshener from the polished Raiders trilogy as you aptly dubbed them. Hysteria will always be 'the' Leppard record but for me, Slang was a welcome addition to the catalogue and much much better than a lot of fans and indeed critics give it credit for. Turn To Dust is just awesome!! Sometimes its just great to hear a raw power chord in all it's simplistic beauty

Okay, but why _not_ release Diamond Star Halos during the pandemic? Once live music and comedy were back after the lockdown, there were a lot of artists who'd skyrocketed in popularity because some fans had more time to devote to paying attention to entertainment during the lockdown. I wonder why they didn't want to release an album when people had more time to listen to it? Edit: Who is this interviewer? She's great. Her style is so conversational. Most interviewers ask a question, let the person answer, and then jump to the next thing without acknowledging the answer which makes the whole thing feel awkward. This interviewer is giving feedback on the answers in a way that most don't. She's actually listening to and interested in the answers.
@carologles2207 Жыл бұрын
I think they wanted to tour with the new album, possibly?
@dianem8544 Жыл бұрын
@@carologles2207 That's what I'm thinking but maybe they're married to the idea that if you release an album you have to tour it right away or it doesn't convert to ticket sales? I'm here to tell you, people would have waited for the tour if it didn't happen right after the album release. Live entertainment is back like you wouldn't believe. They might have even increased their audience because of the copious amounts of free time that some folks had. There are a lot of younger people who think Def Leppard is a clothing line (like with Nirvana, these kids have only seen t-shirts with the DL logo) and they could have been new DL fans from the new album. Now everyone's back to work.

Interesting that they repackaged and remixed my orchestral arrangement of “Turn to Dust”. It was definitely NOT the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, back in 1994!! It was the London Session orchestra lead by Gavin Wright, conducted by me, orchestra booked by Isobel Griffiths. Recorded at Angel Studios in 1994. Phil Collen traveled up to my recording studio in Lancashire to work with me on the whole arrangement (including Indian instruments, which I specialise in). The original mix of this song on the Slang album pushed the strings WAY back. It was quite disappointing for me. But, hey, I wasn’t the producer, had no look-in for the mixing sessions. Now, hearing the re-mix, I’m going “Yeah, man! This is how I envisioned the whole orchestral arrangement!!” It works!! Maybe it was internal politics in the band, or producer, or record company at the time that marginalised the impact of the orchestra in the original version. HOWEVER, I feel vindicated after nearly 30 years!! 😎 I just wish they could give the correct credit, esp where credit is due! My GRAMMY winning sound engineer at Angel for this orchestral session was the late, great Steve Price. He knew how to get a whopping string sound in that room in Studio 1 at Angel (Islington). Plus they were a great bunch of elite string players, the best anywhere. I schooled them during rehearsals how to do “meend” in Indian classical music (inflections, and smoothly connecting notes). It gives it that exotic sound!! Def Leppard, management, or record company, if you’re reading this, please contact me for clarification: craig@craigpruess.co.uk
@craigpruess556511 ай бұрын
It would be nice for Steve Price’s memory (and his family’s) if he was credited, too. Afterall, 60% of the power of this recorded sound on this track is due to his brilliance & expertise! 🙏🏼

Slang was a great album. It wasn't another Hysteria and there will likely never be another Hysteria type album. People are funny in what they like and what they expect. Early die hard fans only like the albums up to High and Dry and think Pyromania is too pop. Others like Def Lep up to Pyromania but think Hysteria is bubble gum pop. For me, I've been a fan for decades and to me their best catalog was when Steve was alive, what they have done is great but not after the Clark era.
