classicdb.ch/?talent#hE0dqzZZVbxkqxq I'm hoping that will take you to the page so you can see what I did with the talent points. I know it looks a little crazy, especially not having an "ultimate" ability, but I built that trying to do maximum damage output while still being able to heal, and have the natures swiftness. IMO, natures swiftness is one of the most important talents to have. Instant heals or chain lightning during PvP was extremely useful to me. I built the whole tree around being able to have it.

Ah, the guide you talked about! I love how you give restoration a chance for leveling. It opens so much more fun options if you don't take the cooky cutter way. I leveled my paladin as holy once, can't say I liked it very much, but it was an achievement at least :D. This resto spec seems fun though.

Great video. Nitpicky stuff, I love this stuff as it sounds like you do too =) Please accept this as constructive feedback, I in no way want to minimize the great work you put into this video. Enhance notes: It's important to note that flametongue bypasses armor values, so for higher-armor targets it is a nice DPS boost. Most beasts have high default armor values, humanoids (casters especially) tend to be lower armor and hp. If you're fighting a bunch of humans (sometimes lower hp and often lower armor) then rockbiter can be a better choice to maximize DPS. I don't know why you take 5% mana boost instead of shield specialization for the 1h builds. This will decrease damage taken quite a bit and should increase your uptime as it helps deal with additional pulls quite a bit. 5% mana usually isn't even a single cast of a spell unless you are downranking. For 2h builds I agree, if you're never using a shield then why bother putting points into it. An additional strategy can be useful in dungeon groups or in any group really as a enh dps shaman. If you have clearcasting, forget the '5 second rule' and instead spam rank 1 shocks in long fights. Whenever you get clearcast procs, use a max rank shock (obvioulsy Earth/Frost for damage depending on ranks, and flame for DOT or on a boss). Otherwise you will go OOM very fast using max rank shocks and spend the rest of the fight without options. This can also be useful in a group if you're just doing quests as you can chain-pull quite a bit more. This is very situational of course, and not something I'd ever think of for soloing unless you run OOM and have no choice but rank 1 shocks. Very pertinent to mention the hit% talent in resto as a nice DPS boost, hitting an extra 3% of your attacks can be very handy especially in 2h windfury where every hit matters a lot. Regarding searing totem- This can be a DPS boost but can also be a decent waste of mana. I like to drop it only when I know I can quickly pull another mob after the first one dies with minimal delay. If it's the last fight before I have to drink then you're better off saving the mana for another shock or to start the pull with lightning bolt or something. Also if it pulls aggro on an add then the totem will die which is a big waste of mana as well. But on the other hand it is a must for elites or other hard-to-kill mobs. Also why no mention of mana spring? You gain the mana cost back after I think either 10 or 15 sec, so if you are being faithful to pulling 3 or 4 mobs during the life of your totems it is giving you an extra spell or two over the course of that fight with no downside other than the extra GCD. Elemental notes: Chain lightning during soloing is extremely mana inefficient. This will cause a lot of extra down time. Forget it- just keep the LB spam for basically equivalent DPS and much less mana usage. You did "hit upon" Nature's guidance here which is very spot on. Your use of earthbind is interesting I never bothered with it while elemental soloing. Stoneskin and mana spring, pulling one mob at a time. Rank 1 frost shock after the 2nd lightning bolt lands, then a 3rd lightning bolt. By now the mob has arrived, and should be less than 1/2 life. Depending on crits/etc, I just melee it down with perhaps another lightning bolt (despite pushback) if the mob has a decent amount of life left. Take a bit of damage, don't waste time moving during the fight, and trade some HP in order to use mana-free damage to finish off the very low hp mobs. Great elemental trick- cast max-rank lightning shield before you drink. Generally its not as mana efficient during fights, often I use a lower rank lightning shield that I put on while the mob is lower health and I'm autoattacking. When autoattacking to finish off a mob, use rank 1 earth shock/frost shock (rank 1 Frost does about 100 damage) to try and trigger clearcasting. Clearcasting is always a big DPS boost. Again, love the content. If you've got through the whole thing then thanks for reading, and I hope it's interesting.

Some comments here and there, but first let me tell u that this was a very good video with lots of useful informations and comparisons. While i had a difficult time to understand the graphs because i don't know how to read them they're still useful to those who can. Why wouldn't u take Improved Lightning Shield whenever u go the way into enhanc? It's the most mana efficient ability the shamans have, sure, it costs some mana, but it also does more damage per mana spent than the rest, and if u compare it with Flame Shock, there are times where Flame Shock won't run it's duration thus costing u more mana / damage. Lets also not forget the fact with LS + Stormstrike. The debuff left on the target causes the target to take increased damage from all sources of nature damage, even the non-direct ones. This means that ur lightning shield WILL deal 20% more damage, i've tested this myself and used it on Lights Hope (Lightbringer). The race selection is also important for more than just leveling, u have to think about endgame aswell. Tauren is a great PvP class, especially as Elemental as u can stun the target to get a free 3x cast with CL, NS+LB and ES to finish it all off. If u're planning on raiding, resto is usually the way to go, then being orc won't do u any good, go troll. However, if u're going enhancment in raiding (as myself) u should definetly be an orc to get Axe spec for Nightfall use, as that's basicly a mandatory weapon to even get into the raid. Again, GREAT video, really like all the different points that u bring up, just wish u would include more than just the leveling process as it might bite u in the butt later on (races). This comes from some1 who has 2 60 shamans on Lightbringer and leveling a 3rd for F R E S H.
@DefcampMelderonTV
@DefcampMelderonTV 6 жыл бұрын
Great Comment. Except for the Tauren part, I did mention the rest about races at the end. As far as lightning shield is concerned, I do have to apologize that it may be more mana efficient than FS and I actually was surprised to learn that it does benefit from flame shock without consuming its charges, pretty interesting. I was under the impression that it didn't as I did not see the charges drop off when LS hit. As far as ILS, many crafters are in agreement that a 15% increase at a 3-talent point cost is not worth it, arguing that anticipation is a better choice as it will be more useful in more situations

I know this video is old but I've found a couple of things that I think could be improved: 1. Even with a fast dagger I've found rockbiter to be superior to flametongue for 1h/shield leveling. Maybe this changes later on, but I haven't yet experienced it. 2. You can get away with more consistency by pulling 1-2 mobs at a time and only using fire totems and mana spring totem, the other totems are pretty useless in open world leveling. 3. I've found windfury weapon/totem to be very sub-par with a 2h or 1h in open world leveling; pulling 1 mob at a time it rarely procs and even if it procs it often overkills the mob, making the extra damage useless.

Good vid. I don't disagree with anything you said, im just adding something because I have nothing else to do right now Lightning Shield, as you mentioned is a lot of Mana. but depending on the ranks of spells you have at the time, lightning Shield can be the highest instant damage-per-Mana-spent spell you have, making it the most efficient to use... Until you get more ranks of other spells

Very informative, however, there is one point I have to disagree on. You put strength>agility>stamina for stat priority. I would have to say that agility>stamina>strength is better for leveling purposes. The attack power needed to decrease the number of hits necessary to kill a mob from 10 to let's say 9 is pretty much impossible, but even 1% crit would make you kill 1 mob in 10(assuming it takes 10 hits to kill each mob) with one fewer hits by getting that one crit for double damage in early game(59 & below). That doesn't even take flurry into account. Agility gives you more flurry uptime, which in turn gives you more crits. Warrior leveling follows a similar logic. Agility is better, which is fortunate, because there's not a lot of leather strength gear. Otherwise great guide!

I agree. It's been a long time since vanilla but efficiency is the goal, in my opinion. I'd rather save a little mana regen time and take a little damage then try to burst down mobs and have to drink more often. Spirit helps both and made a large difference in my leveling experience back then.

Thanks for this guide. I’ll keep it in handy for Classic as I level my first shaman to cap. I’ll be going with 2H enhancement for effectiveness, respeccing to Resto at 60. I want to do my trade skills while leveling, herbalism and alchemy, as well as cooking and fishing. So I should have a bunch of pots and buffs I can use for grinding as well as dungeons. Not sure if you will ever see this comment, but I'm interested in making a hardcore shaman. I would like to focus a fast one-hand/shield build for survivability and am torn between going elemental/resto or enhancement/resto. I've seen you guides and masterclasses and i'm leaning towards Ele/Resto but with a melee mindset. Wondering if you could eventually produce a hardcore guide if interested. I'm playing on Turtlewow right now and they are tweeking the talent builds over there, but I guess what would be useful for me is what are the key talents I should target for survivability and reasonably kill times. What stats to focus (my assumption is agi>stam>int>str>spirit, but not sure). I prefer to play alone unless I find some guys who are less sweaty, so this would primarily be for "out in the world" questing stuff. Thanks in advance.

I prefer to 30/0/21 Elemental spec in Classic. It's what I played on Nostralius. You can level very efficiently, you can farm end-game materials very efficiently, you can heal dungeon groups (albeit with a fair bit of drinking), and you're absolutely devastating support in world and battleground PvP. No respecs required, easy access to gear. The one big issue is that you're not an effective enough healer for most raid groups, and no one is bringing an elemental shaman to a raid. So you might have to find yourself switching to a 0/5/46 build when your raid nights swing around. Overall, though, the 30/0/21 spec (fast dagger, flame-tongue) is one of the strongest and most enjoyable specializations in ALL of Classic WoW.

A spec you did not mention is 0 30 21, enchance without storm strike but with natures swiftness. This I think will be my end game spec for pvp and raiding, assuming I can convince a raid to add me to a melee group but with a nice emergency instant heal when needed. Ideally I would prefer the 31 in storm strike but I think that limits my raid use, as I cannot justify using an additional debuff slot and losing a possible insta chain heal or healing wave. Or do you think you could still get a raid spot with 0 31 20?

Great video but honestly skip 10 points in enhance and screw stormtrike, it's mana inefficient and sucks with fast weapons. Instead go with a dagger that never is below 1.5 in speed. That's where the flametounge scaling really goes crazy. If you manage to pick up a blue 1.3 dagger. Look forward to 10 quick levels because you will be hyper efficient. And since you've freed up alot of your talent points by not going for stormtrike you can get tons of nice points from the ele tree. I've ran this build personally from 1-60 and I was so efficient in grinding mobs I opted to purelyob grins for a large portion of all my levels. Since daggers are really not used by many classes, I managed to pick up some GREAT super fast daggers really cheaply on the AH. Would STRONGLY recommend. I did 2h in retail vanilla and it's a huge difference.

Also i am wondering why we are taking Eye of the Storm 3/3 instead of Elemental devastation and why wouldnt we get a few points in Call of the Thunder instead of Reverberation? Nice job. Edit this was a pserver (not hating) This may change (some people think Ft will change) but i think WF would be the one to likely change if any.

Thank you for the video:) I 'd say your sample size n is a bit small here. The dps distributions may not be normal, so as a rule of thumb you need at least n=15 but you d be safer with 20 to 30. If you do end up trying larger samples I d also suggest to be aware of practical versus statistical significance.

Hey man! Thanks so much for the comment. I'm uploading a part 2 to this tomorrow some time with even more info. Also, in regards to healing, my resto shaman leveling guide may be helpful. Just ignore the parts about resto talents, basically, it's all about knowing when to use what heal. Enhancement can heal just fine

I'm a complete noob to classic, so could you explain why dungeon leveling is the "meta"? With how the stress test was looking, I'm leaning towards dragging my friends through dungeons to get away from all the mob tagging, at least for the early levels
@zakkonfire2257
@zakkonfire2257 5 жыл бұрын
@@J450NAv3ng3d so the reason it could be considered "meta" is classic wow dungeons are easier than private server dungeons and it allows you to avoid competing for quest mobs with the crowd at launch.

Comparing the STDEVs of both groups, weren't you concerned the two group variances were significantly different? This would throw off the original test (I think mostly due to low sample sizes of 10).

I love the boxplot approach to testing, but a bit let down by the fact that you didn't factor in down-time, in the final results. Its pointless to go with Elemental, because "AMG High dps" if you have to drink 70% of the time (Which I know you have to - Elemental Main since early TBC here). I know you commented on this, but actually incorperating XP/hour in some way would have been much more useful, if you ask me. Just some constructive critism for the future :)

I've been leveling as Enhancement and am getting pretty tired of the RNG nature of the build. I'm almost 40 and plan to switch to Elemental. It'll be tricky to be collecting all new gear and get a mount as well as all skills as I level

This a noob question I know but how does one go about allocating the talent points for a given build as they level? Is it ALL the points on the first tier, then down to the second, or if you put so many on the first that unlocks a specific talent on the second then go there and etc... It's always been confusing to me how to allocate points for a given build. Thanks in advance and please forgive my noobness.

I was thinking of running an Enhancement tank spec for leveling so that I have the possibility of easily making groups for dungeons. It would probably be something like this: classicdb.ch/?talent#hLZEif0Exut Not sure if it's viable as I've never seen it but I have heard some people say Enh tanks are perfectly fine in the earlier content.

I played a shaman back in vanilla. Ive done most of my time pvp. I want to say something about surviveability in pvp for shamans. If u are melee ur SA(survivability) ist not that good if u dont have a healer behind u. no matter if u are 1h+S or 2h. Ele is better because u dont have to go in meelerange and casting Chainlightning in a group can be devasting - no IT IS. But the greatest thing u can play in PVP is Resto. U where Mail + shild and 1h weapon. u can specc that ur heals can be stopped from beeing hit (still can be kicked) and u can do damage as well. To Enhance in PVP: These videos roaming the internet especially UNBREAKABLE are a Montage. Very often WF dont proc and u die.

Why no imp lightning shield? I seem to remember imp lightning shield being a more efficient mana to damage spell than shocks.
@DefcampMelderonTV
@DefcampMelderonTV 6 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for the comment. IMO improved lightning shield isn't worth the points. A 15% increase to me is negligible. However, you are right about the mana efficiency aspect. After doing some research it would seem that it may be better than flame shock. I'll have to rethink that. But, according to some other theory crafters, the 3 talent points in lightning shield just isn't worth a 15% increase, those points should go elsewhere.

Razziez Tauren is good for PvP too. The stun resistance is nice but a war stomp gives you time to get either a heal or a chain lightning off that can be enough to win the fight.

Does anyone have a good build for a duo shaman warrior leveling? I had some form of enha resto build in mind but no build runs the talent in enha tree that upgrades your strength totem. I think it sounds good if i have a warrior on me at all times, thoughts?

I won't use lightning shield and searing totem it really isn't worth crap. Grace and strength. Storms trike earth shock. Usually here you get a crit or a wind fury proc and the target is dead. Using 6 abilities every pull is absolutely ridiculous.
