Craziest thing : I followed a lot of the teachings in your videos, and didn't get any recommended videos in a while. Just wanted to let you know you helped me a ton, and I am now rated 1200. Feeling confident in my play, especially because I got away from the common openings at my level (Caro-Kann, London, etc.) Thanks LightSquares !!

The opening system approach. I love it! There are many good ones and b3/b6 is certainly one of them. Keep up your great work on the channel!

Nice job bro. I like your confidence of improving every day. I'm also aiming for 2000+ rating and I also believe that the most important thing in chess is openings. That's why I only play one Oppening. Also because Bruce Lees quote is "don't fear the man who knows 10000 kicks" but "fear the man who practised one kick 10000 times👟

Openings are not the most important. People overrate it on clublevel. Most of my team mates worry about what their opponents play. Ill tske them out of book and go for queenless middlegames/ endgames

Kinda wanted to let you know, so just placing this under your most recent video, I've been playing b6 since August last year, with reasonable success. I broke 1400 on b6. However, the deeper theoretical knowledge I get of b6, the more I come to understand it as a second tier defence. What sold me on this was playing against b6 a few times within the last month, where by then I knew all the theory and ideas, and I just crushed. Also, I REALLY struggle with it OTB, but I also seem to be a worse player with another human in front of me, for some reason.
@LightSquares10 ай бұрын
Yes I think 1… b6 is not sustainable in longer time formats as you get stronger. The problem is 1 e4 b6 2 d4 Bb7 3 Bd3 or 1 d4 b6 2 e4 Bb7 3 Bd3. I think if you want to include it in your rep you have to play e6 in response to e4 or d4, offer a transposition to French and if your opponent declines, proceed with b6 lines. GM Jose González talks about this approach in his book English Defence. Blitz rapid online I think it won’t matter until you are very strong.

@lightsquares nice couple of video's. I remembered a stronger player played 1B4 and it annoyed me. I was thinking he was trolling me. But in fact he chose an offbeat opening deliberatly because he did not want to play queen gambits and ruy lopezes. This inspired me later to play offbeat openings too. 1b3 and 1F4 and scandinavian, stonewall dutch and b6. I even beat a stronger player i did not beat before
@LightSquaresАй бұрын
If you listen to GM Naroditsky, he talks about the value of playing offbeat lines, not necessarily 1 … b6 but some sideline within a major opening.

@LightSquares club players are not prepared for every little thing. But tje key take away of this is that surprises ste valueable on every level. I just love the look of disgust after 1B3 or 1B6 or often even the Scandi

Yes I have had a strong kid nod disapprovingly at me after playing 1 b3 in classical chess against him only for him to accept a draw in the middle game after a dangerous position. It definitely gets people thinking on their own.
