Growing up in Czechoslovakia I just hated Soviets, especially their ice hockey team, because they were so fucking good indeed. Their 1st front line Makarov, Larionov and Krutov, backed by Kasatonov and Fetisov in defence, slaughtered anyone and I mean it! As those front three were getting older and older, they were about to be replaced by youngsters named Mogilnyj, Bure and Fedorov. Any bells ringing? :D

This is quite the story. Although I am somewhat surprised at the amount of resistance Mogilny had to overcome to leave, considering that Gorbachev had installed the glasnost policy, essentially reducing the militant Soviet culture. Considering the Soviet Union was about ready to crumble, I'd thought even if they tried to stop Mogilny's escape, they'd be powerless to do so.

From what I'd gathered, the Gorbachev USSR was growing lax. Human rights violations weren't so much a problem, and relations with America was taking a turn for the better, but sure, the economy was lousy. That's one reason to want to leave the Soviet Union, but I didn't think he'd run into this much trouble trying to defect then. Particularly considering how the USSR would collapse within two years and he'd have no trouble then just jetting out of the country.

You are correct, gomer.Who ever said I wasn't american? Born and raised in this piece of plastic shit. My dad was an officer in the military for this piece of shit, Funny you say what you did. When I was younger I never remember the gov't (pronounced government) shutting down. Now? I think they schedule it as holiday. usa is DEAD completely. Yet, everyone acts as if all is well. Watching the news in usa today is like when Walter Cronkite used to show russia and talk about how fucked up Russia was. Well. now it's here. Obtuse prick? This country, usa, sack of shit, has GROWN and MATURED SO much men can now use women's restrooms if they "feel" like a woman and vice versa. "Everybody Wins!" "Nobody Left Behind!" That's what america has become. They have hockey leagues and baseball leagues for kids where they don't keep score cause they want to show the kids "nobody" loses. american politics is at a stalemate cause the gov't (pronounced government) has become the rigeme. Rights is nothing more than a word in america. I hope you have kids and I hope something happens to one of them so just maybe you'll realize the country you believe so much in is nothing more than Hitler's plan modern day. How come the boys and girls got to play in the 80 Winter Games but no the summer 80 games? Talk to Johnny Bumphus, Alex Ramos, Tony Tucker, ask these guys about american politics. Cost these guys millions, literally cause the gov't (pronounced government) refused to let them pursue a dream they had chased a life time. Bottom line is, gomer, usa is a plastic, fake, bogus, piece of shit and I hope I'm alive when it becomes, say United States of China Corp, and everyone has to learn a new language and a new way of life. Yeah. I'm an american. That's why my favorite hockey player is Russian and I wear a Canadian National jersey to show my support
