Defender 300Tdi Rebuild - 1. Initial Inspection

Restoration of a 1996 Land Rover Defender 90 300 Tdi. Its been sitting in a garden for the past 7 years after it was involved in an accident.
I have a galvanised chassis from Richards Chassis on order so the plan is to strip it down completely and rebuild. Waiting time for the chassis is around 10 weeks so I want to get as much done as possible before it arrives.
I have a bet with my mate that the landy will be finished by July 1st 2017. This was before I realised there was a 10 week waiting list for the chassis. I'll still try and hit the deadline, even if its just to give me motivation but I wont be sacrificing quality for speed.

Massive respect for the project. I saw all of your videos so far (part 9). Looking forward for next videos. Car looks in pretty bad condition with all the rust, but it can be done. I admire your will and patience to do this. I would probably set it on fire if rust could burn :D . Just don't give up! Thumbs up!

Never rev an engine that has been standing for 7 years. Landys come apart and go back incredibily easily all you need is time. Good luck

I find it quite astonishing that someone would park up a Land Rover,even after an accident, for all that time,and then let nature take over.If you have the cash,you fix it.If you don't,you sell it to someone who will.It's well specced and they are better than money in the bank,but if left to deteriorate,they will.Still,well done for coming to the rescue.

The battery was new and I also had it connected to another defender to jump start it. There is a small amount of footage cut but it only took a few minutes to start

Remove air filter and rev the nuts off it with all manner of dried crap waiting to get sucked in. Low range would have helped brake the siezed discs/pads then I could have seen you tear the door off.!!
