Yes Brett!!! Thanks for making this video. The Mrs was stuck at the shop and we had to tow our 110 home. Been rattling my brain trying figure put why it wouldn't start, with no lights on the dash, no clicking at the starter but sidelights ok, battery ok. Deduced the problem was between the key and the starter. Took the dash apart and the plastic bit was hanging off the back of the barrel. Pushed it in by hand and turned the key and it started! Saved me an expensive trip to the Auto Sparky! Cheers man

Be sure to glue up the new one so it doesn't happen again.

@@RoamingTheOutback Yeah ordered a whole new barrel, as the entire unit comes with a guarantee. Was thinking of just ordering the switch but then if my glue fails, it's my fault and not under warranty 🕵️♂️

Good on you Brett. You'll come back from this trip with the Defender in the best shape of its life.

+El Rey It's certainly getting a shakedown and seems to get the best of everything while I try to save $4 and purchase cheap cheese instead of aged chedder.

Lived that particular nightmare ... Didn't bother sheering off the bolts that came with the replacement ... I just couldn't see the point considering how simple it is to bypass it all... I put other much more sensible measures in place instead ... Let's hope your truck doesn't go for a double hat trick like my 90 has recently! I haven't even started striping the 110 thanks to that particular nightmare of events! Hope your still enjoying the travels mate :o)

+Matt Allen Despite several issues within a couple weeks i'm doing ok. Just had my oil changed so good for another 5000km!

+Roaming The Outback Recently I've taken to checking all my hose clamps at oil change time... That involves cleaning them with a brush, spraying them with penetrating oil, making sure it opens and closes properly and then applying some grease to ensure long life ... the grease attracts grub but I've never had one that you couldn't wipe clean then undo etc. This is after I ended up stuck due to a poxy loose clamp that I couldn't nip up just to get me home... it had rusted and died ... Can't wait for the next instalment :o)

How can you change it to keep using your old key? Don't want to change all the locks...
@RoamingTheOutback3 жыл бұрын
I since learnt there are 2 grub screws. Remove them and the rear contacts can be purchased as separate unit. much cheaper.

ive replaced 2 of these ,,even the new one need the copper pionts to be glued in as they rattle around and will cause the 60 amp fuse to short.. i have glued and taped the points in where it meets at the body .

Always a problem trying to find quality aftermarket parts once the original fails. At least you know how to fix it.
@rowanconnolly65304 жыл бұрын
Do you know the part number for the replacement one?
@RoamingTheOutback4 жыл бұрын
Sorry not from memory... But there are 2 parts.. the lock and the ignition contact. You can buy seperatly or together.

I always remove the sheer bolts and replace with proper items. the security is so poor on a defender they only make life more difficult at the wrong time!
