Cataphracts don't take 1 damage from flemish militia like elite teutonic knights do, so they die a lot faster when they're surrounded. Not to mention they're slower to produce, way more expensive to upgrade, and you have completely generic eco as byzantines.

There was a TK that was being attacked by 8 flemish militia there; a TK is doing 9 DPS to the one in front of it, while an Elite Cataphract is doing 12.5 to the target AND an additional 5 to the other 7 for a total of 47.5 DPS. vs 9. At the same time, the cataphract will be taking 4.5 damage per second per flemish militia, vs 0.5 on the TK. I ran it through the combat simulator, and Elite Cataphracts are SLIGHTLY worse than Elite Teutonic Knights. Takes about 7250 resources worth to kill 200, vs 7400 for catas.

In theory yes, but better players make monks and pikes. Coustilliers are rather slow plus they deal less damage over time if you keep letting them attack. Most raids are just sending cavalry in, let them wreak havoc so you can focus on the main fight, Cousts would take too much micro to make them go in and out

I think yellow could have been a little more conservative with his forces. His trebs were not supporting the infantry, which mostly sat in the crossfire between castles while facing off against ETK. Bad seige support and infantry sent to the slaughterhouse. Would have been better with deep raiding parties and most of the army protecting the trebs behind walls.

150 vil and 50 military would have been the sweet spot to go to the revolution. Treating 50 food as a throwaway unit when you need to pay at least double the amount of that to get your economy and military back is kind of dumb. A real military should back it up so that they don't die so easily.

I think to be even better defense, you need to put the castles even further inside your base, so they cant be ranged by trebs so easily, while also being able to put fire on units attacking the walls.

People have different preferences. I like to wait until right after 2nd boar comes in to push deer, but many push them earlier. Then also if you lose your scout you have your deer already.

he did it a little too early, not enough siege and he should have ignored the second castle up top, only the one at the corner of the wall mattered, kill the caslte, break through the wall and rush through and swamp the enemies economy with flemish. It means you lost your economy, but so did the enemy and their base is in shambles while you are already rebuilding.

Well. threatening the enemy with the flemish revolution, rather then using is as fast as you possibly can is definitely the play. i can win all the games with this civ against civs that are not a strong counter to burgundians. consider this: your enemy is preparing for your threat, he knows you gonna use it, and he balances his eco at roughly about 120 vils, whilst you are at 200 booming like crazy. Then, when the enemy starts to wonder when you want to attack and starts attacking you, up to the point where it might start to affect your vill count, you pop the tech and steam roll his attempt out on the open field, while already having prepared all the techs and upgrades for your strong sides like cav and champs and stuff. it is certainly doable against a lot of civs on arena
