@@davidsmnje I doubt that anyone believes that the defense is playing well. But in context, it's not all that surprising that the defense, especially the pass coverage) has taken a step back. DC Mike Macdonald left to be HC in Seattle. Defensive line coach (and assistant HC) Anthony left to be DC in Miami. DB coach Dennard Wilson left to be DC in Tennessee. The Titans now have the League's 2nd best D vs the pass. Failing to put the D's performance in context is shallow thinking.
@lariojaalta89021 сағат бұрын
@@samazon52Couldn’t agree more. Particularly, Dennard Wilson. People need to look at what he did with Philly, then Baltimore, and now, as you pointed out, Tennessee. I think Anthony Weaver’s approach last year of coaching up the front 7 together and having them spend time in the film room at the same time had a huge impact last year. It was a little unusual in the NFL, and I’m not sure if that’s the case this year.

RO IS THE LEADING TACKLER OF THE BEST RUN STOPPING DEFENSE IN THE NFL AS A LINEBACKER...CANT ASK FOR MUCH MORE THAN THAT
@mobrown119820 сағат бұрын
Yes. Yes you certainly can. Part of his job as the leader and play caller of the defense, is to get his guys in position. Roquan isn’t making many of his tackles close to or behind the line of scrimmage… NFL inside linebackers will generally lead their team in tackles… a good linebacker makes plays, and great linebackers (Roquan is paid to be great) get their team in alignment, and in the right position. That’s why he’s highly paid. I don’t care who was the DC with Ray Lewis. Heck even CJ Mosley. When they were at the helm of the Ravens defense. The Ravens defense was getting gashed like this in the air. I agree with Coach, it is a system, coaching issue, a work in progress. Roquan… has more responsibility… especially when the Ravens make teams one dimensional….

Coach it’s unfortunate that our defense can’t seem to put it together because it is negating the amount of talent we have on this defense. This defense could easily surpass the defense or at least match what happened last year given the talent we have. Like you have said multiple times, it’s not a player issue but rather a scheme issue

I remember watching him and Ray Lewis sit down and talk about the game. Ray was absolutely correct with our defense there is no communication on the field as well. @johnredelfs61159 сағат бұрын
What I’ve noticed is that the defense hasn’t audibled out of certain looks/coverages when the offense lines up in a formation that can exploit it, there has also really just been a huge lack of communication from every one to be honest, the play calling isn’t really the issue it’s the lack of detail from our players, which you could say is on Orr, and if that’s the case than dean peas should hopefully help with that
@jamesstrom699115 сағат бұрын

Thank you. I know you didn’t personally do this for me. But I need to know my eyes aren’t lying. I’ve been asking of you and another great teacher of the game to … give me some context. I believe he is a great player. But I know what I see. The… simulated pressures… aren’t working. I agree wholeheartedly that he should just blitz more… on obvious passing downs. McVay and the Rams were the first team to truly expose this with the Ravens. Can’t tell me other teams haven’t copied and pasted this philosophy… My non professional opinion, the Ravens defense would better served rushing 5 (4DL, Ro, or 5DL) at this point, I’m not a fan of the sim pressures. It takes players who aren’t good coverage guys, even in space, in poor position to make plays.

I know this was about Ro but I think they need to change how we run the backend of our defense. We have way too many smart, versatile & dynamic players to use such a static system. First, we need to protect Branden Stephens weakness. He plays sticky coverage but just doesn't play on the ball well. I honestly think we shouldn't keep our left side right side corner assignments static anymore. Offenses know where he will always be...and we make it way too easy for them to target that particular weakness. We have a stud...even tho he's a rookie it's clear Nate can lock down opponents, he's good in zone and he knows how to always be in position to make a play on the ball. I know people worry about his drops but just like with early Queen, him being consistently in the right position for takeaways bodes well for his future, and eventually he will start coming down with these. Is it too early to ask the rook to travel with their Wr1? Well, the way I see it he should eventually be tasked with this, and I think he can handle it. This season team's WR1 have been giving us problems every game and tasking what I think is or will eventually be our best coverage corner to just eliminate them all game and force teams to beat us with their other guys is the best route. I also think Trenton should stay on the field next to Ro just like we did with Queen. He is good and athletic enough to handle coverage on the inside, carry guys up the seam and aware enough to make in play adjustments and match routes. Also I think they should use him like we did queen, if we can't get there with 4, send Trent in to crash down on lineman and loop Beeks around. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't know why we are putting Eddie Jackson on the field so much, use him as depth for injuries but he is not adding value as the third safety. I also don't know what to think of Marcus Williams but I've just never seen him be this inconsistent...even when he was playing with essentially one arm. He's out of position, not bracketing well when used as a deep half and he's also been a liability in the redzone. But then I just think we are seeing a lot of plays where guys seem to be out of position or out leveraged...so unfortunately, as much as I wanted to give him grace...we got to start looking at coaching. Why is communication such a problem, why are the struggling lining up and why are they not identifying bad positioning when offenses line up...this wasn't a problem last year and we are using essentially the same group. It can't just be getting caught in a bad play call every time.

That first play was opi on further review of the endzone angle. Oweh, got intentionally picked. That was a penalty, not necessarily a coaching fix. Anticipate it and do something else next time, maybe, but if the offense gets away with the pick, they get open.

Again, I appreciate this coach. I am nowhere near as well versed as you… however, I do know and understand plenty enough about the game to know that this is a scheme, coaching issue… it is just too much talent on this defensive unit for them to play so poorly and allow so much yardage through the air.
