Great series, as a 70+ guy, I grew up on westerns and lever action rifles were the cutting edge of long distance weapons. Took a muley in Wyoming with a Winchester 30-30. Love levers

Bought my 336W right around the time you started this build. Adding some RPP upgrades makes the platform really transition into a more modern version of a classic while still keeping that classic look and feel. I hope you guys do a review of both stocks from RPP and Chisel Machining. 👍🏻

You have built my DREAM lever gun. So wish I could find one. I want one exactly like that. I kick myself for not buying one back in the e Mid '90s when they were sub $300 off the shelf. :(

Love the work you've done on this rifle. I had a question for ya. Have you done any accuracy testing and comparing from when it was a 20" barrel to the 16" barrel at 50 or 100 yards? I have the same rifle and will be starting a similar project soon (waiting on parts) and have been thinking of cutting the barrel as well. Thank you
@psav75 ай бұрын
Don't understand that short-barrel bias. 30-30 with a 16" Barrel brings the power down to 44mag level and limits the magazin capacity. In close quarters the 4 extra Inches of the 20" barrel does not rearly make a difference.

I understand Hornady is your sponsor, but you are using the wrong bullets. You should be testing with "Barnes VOR-TX Ammunition 30-30 Winchester 150 Grain TSX Hollow Point Lead-Free". These are self-defense and hunting rounds that are absolutely devastating for soft targets.

I own 2 Marlin 336 in 30-30 and 35 Remington I wouldn't call them defensing guns, so I have 4 AR 15's chambered for different cartridges and 1 AR 10's with 2 uppers that are better for self-protection than the Marlins. Criminals now have semi autos with High-capacity magazines, and they also often come in pairs or in gang groups. Watch the KZbin videos of homeowners having shoot outs with gangs that invade the homeowners' house, you have a high probability of getting killed using a Marlin like that in a home invasion shootout of gang members. Cutting back the tube magazine also reduced the amount of ammo in the gun. I have for my AR 15's 40 round and German made 60 round magazines which both magazines work flawlessly. And feel a need for a 30-caliber rifle feels better for self-defense use an AR 15 in 7.62x39 using a 16-inch barrel which is what one of my AR 15 uppers is in. Using a C-Production 30 round magazine for 7.62x39 that is some fire power. My reloads for the 7.62x39 are 165 Grain 308 " bullets with 26 grains of W740 powder so I am just a little under the 30-30 . When I load 30-30 ammo, I use the same 165 Grain bullets with 30 grains of W740 powder

What about the mossberg spx 30-30? I only see old reviews nothing current
@buildhuntxplore2 жыл бұрын
I've not heard much about them in years. They definitely were one of the early ones to market with this sort of offering, and for the price it still can't really be beat for a one-stop-shop. In my opinion, the full pic-rail was uncomfortable for this kind of rifle, it's too short for people like me (6'4") especially if you want to mount a quiver/light/etc, plus it's an outdated design. The M4 stock was an interesting touch, but not really that useful on a lever gun. I think it's more of a novelty these days, especially considering it's only offered in a top ejecting rifle with no real aftermarket support. I think if Mossberg would redesign it with a longer MLok handguard, offer a pic-rail/rear sight combo, and do a more practical stock, they would really have a great offering, especially for a factory tactical lever gun. Then, it would definitely be one I would have in my collection.
