I believe a big thing to building character is honesty, honesty in dealing with others and dealing with oneself. Reading Jordan Peterson, I realized there is no difference between the two. Fail to be honest with yourself or others and your ability to be dishonest to others, and especially yourself increases.

There is no easy way...and there's only Discipline. And your answers to never look for short cuts, to not rely on emotions but your logic, and keeping in strong connections with body instead of mind.. These answers are all we needed. Thank you Jocko & Echo and everyone who came out on podcast show their vulnerable sides to tell us the message.

Doing right is tough, it's easy to cop out and do bad things. Discipline is freedom for sure. I have to also define my boundaries in character but I know. Lying to myself is a cheat only to myself. Doing right is an ongoing discipline every second as you know. Character is not complex thing you do the right thing always you do it for family, those things are easy things daily basis to improve health hard to do build your character leads to your character to being. Good character... Hard good character, do the right, the right thing is the hardest thing. Overcome everything get up get up get up getup never quit. When you get beat up last thing you wanna do is to get up and be forceful and those designs determine whether you live life well or not

I love Jocko. He is really a great man. I think that they didn't answer the question with a lot of thought. I think the question is how you help kids build character not grown adults. Grown adults are really difficult to change, and if you have the change mindset then you are more than half way there. This problem is how do you help kids build character. Jocko has the Way of the Warrior book, so the question is "How can we help kids build strong character when they don't want/like our help". Kids (like most adults) are averse to hardships. If you tell them to do a difficult thing, they will just not do it. There is the problem. How to show them that happiness comes from doing the difficult things and make them understand

That's a misunderstanding based on people pointing out "he has character" when someone did right when non were meant to witness it. To me a character is a multitude of characteristics mixed together, usually in a unique way. Someone that is forward thinking, reflected, and hot headed, has a different character than someone that is forward thinking, reflected, and thick skinned. A character applies to circumstances, which means it doesn't change easily. Disregarding whether someone is looking or not if your character has the chracratrisitc to be forward thinking you will do so regardless. It seems to me, we have started defining people as having character only when they do what's dutiful. And that because people called out someone's character when their dutiful characteristics applied to their circumstances while the person couldn't have known to have witnesses to his actions. I think Jokos answer is honest but also not deeply reflected. We all have character. Cowardice, justifying, cunning, and naive can all be characteristics of a character. The question is how to properly cultivate characteristics that you want to be part of your character. Usually characteristics come about by your understanding of the world and natural neurological tendency. I subscribe to the idea that you can discover your character by observing yourself. Realizing that your reaction and actions in any circumstance are not the only ways to act and react just because you can't become aware of any other in the moment.

Let’s be real you guys are not always doing the right things. It’s not your standards that always matter most. Being humble means to be submissive. Being Submissive doesn’t mean live up to the standards of someone else but it also doesn’t mean live up to your own set of rules without regard for others. To be submissive is to submit your ideas and standards and see how others receive them before making a decision. Ultimately its your life and your choices but we are not always right because we think we are.

Character is the symbol of your signature in the world. It represents the distinctive individuality that you have and by which you will be remembered.
