In my opinion, dark humour is some of the hardest to pull off correctly. You need to construct something controversial and edgy, whilst still making it tasteful and clever. It’s misunderstood by so many people who think that you can just say slurs or repeat the same offensive joke and it’ll be funny, which isn’t true. It doesn’t help that the belief of “oh, of you have a problem with it then you’re just offended and my joke was great!” is around, which is the furthest thing from the truth.

Something that I want to add in your argument is this: Edgy humor DOES NOT work with EVERYONE. Not only you must do it in right place, at the right time, but also around the right people. If I make an edgy joke around my friends, that's fine because they'll know that's just a joke. But if I do it to a random stranger then how will they know that's a joke? Also thing people need to understand is that we all have limits, not all edgy jokes land with me, and not all jokes land with my friends. We have to create a balance to not cross some else's lines and stay where we know it's okay for them.

@nyyte_2 жыл бұрын
I agree with that part of the argument, but it also goes both ways, if someone were to be in a gc or something where people make dark jokes, they can’t just try to get offended. This actually happened to me recently, someone posted an edgier meme, which we all would laugh at, but one caused an entire controversy. It basically ended because I told them to stop bitching about it and leave if they couldn’t handle it, and they called me sexist for it. In the end, the entire gc was cool and we all are good friends, but the point is as much as you gotta moderate what you say around others, if you have a group of people that have collectively decided edgy humor is okay, then one person can’t expect things to go their way if they have a problem with it.

My view on dark humour is its fine to joke with dark humour as long as it is just jokes and no bad intention behind it. That is perfectly fine. But if your making dark humour with actually meaning what your talking about then that isn't good. It also doesn't help that people get offended for people. If someone makes a dark humour joke with his friends it's the people in his friend group that the joke was targeted towards decides if its OK or not. You don't decide for them
@naturessacrifice82652 жыл бұрын
In some situations you can. If they make multiple dark jokes about one group of people, and that's all they joke about, it stops being a joke. Make a joke about gay people once, fine. Twice, maybe getting suspicious, especially in a short amount of time. Fifty is no longer a joke, it's just hate disguised as a joke. You can make a joke about a group of people, but if that's all you joke about, especially constantly, there might be a problem.

One very important thing to note is that there is a *huge* difference between making a joke out of a tragedy and thinking that the tragedy is inherently funny. This is what I believe to be the main thing that people have misunderstood about dark humour. It is not a conduit to spout overtly offensive shit with no rhyme or reason over and over.

Sometimes dark humor is at its peak when it's done correctly at the wrong place and time. Like in the middle of a school lecture and you and your friends are trying your hardest not to be heard or seen laughing by the teacher
@theperfectburger98922 жыл бұрын
The right way to say dark humor is to check these 4 boxes: 1: it has a offensive element (ex: twin towers, racial stereotypes, etc) 2: it has a punchline (something to tie in the offensive part to the rest of the joke, is usually the offensive part) 3: It starts with a random fact, question, or statement (ex: why are [race] people [emotion] of/at [different about something]? etc) 4:make it make sense (any joke isn’t funny unless the setup and the punchline make sense together)
@khalilabushahin418 Жыл бұрын

It also reminds me of these jokes that people at my school would make abt Asian people. I go to a school that is dominated only with black/ Latinos. And since there are no Asians people make fun of them the most. This one kid was talking shit abt Asians and then makes his eyes slanted at me and says “all Japanese and Chinese people are the same” he starts saying “ Ching Chong”. He even called this Korean sub we had and called her “ Hong Kong”. He’s always bullying me because I like K-pop even though I don’t even talk abt it at school. Like bro these kids @ my school have such a strong hatred for Asians for no reason 😨. Like bro leave them alone for once 😢. This on time this sophomore from last year was sexualizing my literature teacher( who is Vietnamese) and starts saying how Asian people are sexy and obedient to be “funny”. And she did nothing abt it .💀 Also I remember we had this Korean American at my elementary school and we would always call him Ching Chong and say he was Chinese and not Korean. I felt so bad because We rlly hurt his feelings. Hope he’s doing well.

There’s a Fine line between real Dark Humor and Offensive Humor. As a KZbinr I watched once put it; “I use Humor to make light of a bad situation and have a punch line; you just think the bad situation is inherently funny. We’re not the same.”

The stand up thing reminded me of Leo Lins, who is notorious for making dark humor, he even managed to get a show taken down from yt because he made a joke about the president of Brazil and they didn't liked it. We live in a country where people take comedians seriously, and politics jokingly 😎

Filthy Frank did not stop being Filthy Frank because he didn't like the content anymore or just wanted to try something new. He was permanently damaging his throat from doing the Filthy Frank voice, and was having stress-induced seizures while filming. He had no choice. Also, dark humor on KZbin is still thriving, it's just not the same exact creators. We have people like TraRags (as shown in the video), LongBeachGriffy, jschlatt, and we even still have iDubbbz.

For me i see dark humor in my opinion as a joke that has something controversial or inappropriate in it but slides in so well that is gets the laugh in but the problem is that people online don't know how to actually pull this way correctly instead leading to all this non dark humor and misunderstanding of the phrase and people getting angry not knowing that it is all a joke and is something that doesn't try to harm someone unless the person is being serious with thier claims
