I have recently got the Corsa e for £12k Elite Nav 21 plate with 19k miles on the clock,I have to say it is doing the job just fine. About 160 real world miles range I would say but I don't push it to that so can't be too sure, also.we have the advantage of free electric at work too so it's no brainer as our 2nd car, we hardly use our petrol Puma lately 😜

We have a 71 plate e up which we drove to Holland, so they can be used as a family car, on memory the Seat mii version has slightly better interior as well as being the cheapest when new of Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen versions. Would absolutely recommend it, just need to plan trips a little if more than 100 miles and stay at no more than 65 on motorways, at £8500 it’s really good value

@@stevegeek there are some good deals. Though obviously a bit more recent than the MG5, and a like-for-like MG5 is less expensive. My MG5 is a long range Exclusive trim, and would have to compare than to an MG4 long range trophy.

Big fan of the Citroën E-C4.... brilliantly comfortable, cheap insurance and loads of practical car for £12,000 / £13,000. Tesla Model 3 is a great car but the insurance is dreadful and it's NOT a hatchback. We have had tons of furniture and sofas etc in the back of or E-C4.

Just bought a top-spec 3 yr old Corsa for £11500 under 20k miles. Honestly I don't know what reviewers were griping about. It's a really nice car - faster and longer range than most of the cars on this list, drives really well and it can be very civilised and smooth or it can overtake better than my previous sporty turbo diesel that had a +50 BHP advantage and was 200 kg lighter. Love the headlights and the sound system. Keep in mind it had depreciated about 10% in the last 3 months, and that if you're not fussed about the features, the bottom spec SE nav is the same car with slightly smaller wheels. Also I think it actually looks better than all of these. I know no one will agree with me on that but hey, that keeps the price down.

Just remember it was £36k when it came out so would have been reviewed as a £36k car. At the price you can pick one up for now it’s a great piece of kit for the money.

Just bought a 1yr old Corsa e as a second car. 5000 miles for £14k: list price new was £31k. Loving it! EVs have depreciated so much so fast that I no longer feel like they are a rip-off. Plus Eon Next EV tariff 6.9p/kWh from midnight to 7am. Car is doing 4.2 miles/kWh, so that is roughly 1.5p per mile. That saves £1k per year on petrol

It really is, they carry such a premium vs manuals and a lot of auto boxes are prone to issues and failures in later life so an EV without a gearbox is very tempting by comparison.

I kinda jumped the gun a little on my 19 plate Tesla model 3 brought back in July 23 50k mileage from Tesla for 26k includes Advanced Autopilot mind you. Now it’s worth 15-16 at most 😂🥲 but I love the car. Wish I’d waited 6 months 😂

Great video Jim. Now's the time to climb into an EV bargain. Some great examples here. Peeps need to remember if it's performance, expect performance insurance. Otherwise you're laughing. My 500e is multicar with my I-Pace. The Fiat 500e added just £90 to my car insurance. Brakes on EVs go on forever, maintenance is almost zero. You'll only learn when you do. BTW I had a 2020 Leaf 40kwh, great car. Chademo is what would stop be getting back into one (unless predominantly charging at home). Those 2018+ Leaf's (wanna say Leaves) had better BMS although still passive. With some math you'll probably find the HV battery good for 500k miles (maybe then upto 70% SOH). So instead of losing BHP like a fossil, your range will take a hit from 150 miles to 105. Don't expect degradation like this with active BMS. On other EVs you'll have 90-99% for some time/distance.

12:13 okay price on the leaf but would be better spending the little more for the Tekna spec, just for the added features. I currently have a 2022 tekna on lease and mainly went up in spec to avoid a foot-handbrake lol. Also have a ID.3 as second car, both are really nice and pretty premium feeling. EVs aren’t for everyone but definitely much better ride than petrols

I paid around half the retail price for a 2023 kona ev. 12k miles and a premium model. Yeah it’s only got the 39kwh battery but I average 4k miles a year so ideal for me, especially as I have a family member that lets me charge it on their home charger.

Unfortunately you won’t be able to service it? That’s why the second hand market is full of grossly over priced ICE cars. As will be seen as the EV market takes over prices their second hand will increase after the rental flooding effect subsides. Legacy car companies are dead in the water trying to flog old tech with gross maintenance charges.

That’s the first thing I’d be checking as if the battery has been depleted for a long period it won’t be good. I’d check battery health and get some reassurances on the warranty for it.

There are plenty of used EVs knocking about with 250k+ on them, the cost of replacement would write the car off in most cases (as it would on a petrol or diesel car with 250k on it). I wouldn’t expect to have a long relationship with a 20 year old car unless you've got a wallet, regardless of it's power source.👍

The lesser spec models also have foot-handbrakes. I went with a Tekna mainly to avoid that, on a leased deal. Worth the extra £5/month or so for that alone plus full heated seats, Bose sound system :)

This recording of damage is becoming a bit of a scam because the insurance companies are incentivised not to do it in order to get good prices for the salvage. This especially applies to the high value cars and it probably suits the manufacturers who sell a lot of expensive oe parts. Buyers deserve better protection.

I agree that anything consider a write off should be recorded by law. It's currently not compulsory and it's simply not good enough. V-Check has been campaigning for this since 2019.

Easy and straightforward enough. Just get the seller to check the battery pack via the car's diagnostic socket, using a OBD device. This can provide you with a print-out of the battery's SOH (state of health) in percentage terms.....

Very easy. Just plug in an OBD2 diagnostics reader. All garages will have one, or you can buy your own and use your phone.

Some EVs have internal software, but you need engineers code. A variety of SW exists with a Bluetooth dongle on the OBDII. The Leaf has app Leafspy for a detailed breakdown....

E.V.'s are only this cheap because the main battery warranty has expired. If it goes pop, you're looking at £20-£30k.

This is one of the most common things said about EV, it’s also not true. Mate, you’ve generally got 8 years minimum versus 3-5 generally with a diesel or petrol. What happens in one of those when your drivetrain fails? It costs a fortune and writes off the car 9 times out of 10. Not to mention the fact there there are plenty of very old Tesla’s on the road with 300-400k on the clock. I co wider any modern car to basically have a 12-15 year shelf life before it starts costing crazy money to keep on the road.

8 yr warranty on the battery. The manufacturer isn’t going to risk loads of claims so they know they will do substantially more. You get 3 years on an ICE car but no one expects to replace the engine /gearbox after 3 years. Plenty have done massive mileage with no significant degradation. By the time these need replacement batteries in large numbers there will be recon services in the same way we have them for ICE cars.
