I have recently received the larger battery version with 17" wheels (better range). My ID3 with same battery size gave max of 190 miles, 140 on motorway. This achieves more miles than claimed on full charge, currently about 300 miles and I drive very briskly. VERY impressed.

It's worth a mention that the 17" wheels are a no-cost option on the Ultimate spec cars. There must be quite a few people taking that option, because I have been told that Hyundai have now started offering smaller wheels as a no- cost option on Ultimate spec Ioniq 5s as well. I'm so glad that a manufacturer has stopped forcing large wheels on anyone who wants all the other bells and whistles. Big wheels don't just reduce the range, they spoil the ride, and they require much more expensive tyres. I hope a lot of other brands will take note and follow suit.

I have current Kona and I get 320 in the summer and the absolute worst miles in the winter -7 260 miles. My next car will be the new Kona ultimate with the 17” wheels for the range of the 320. I have also found the cars range to be very accurate, the only compromise I have found is on the motorway I stick to 64mph and get 4.4kw if you do 70mph it goes down to 3.3kw apart from that it’s been a great car.

I have this model as well - in general I like it a lot, but I have my own 'pet peeves'. Sometimes when you switch it on it goes into an odd mode, I can't describe it, where it goes into neutral and you can't move it to drive until you have shut down completely and restarted. Even then it occasionally goes through the same rigmarole. Also the cruise control isn't as user-friendly as it was in my old VW Tiguan, which would basically drive itself, and you could accelerate/slow down just by using the toggle on the steering wheel either in single, five, or ten mph increments . Yes, you can do that with this one, but it only goes up in single increments, and it seems to randomly reset after coming to a stop. Also it doesn't sense when there is a car in the middle lane and you are going faster than it in the inside lane. I haven't discovered how another person can open the boot when you are in the driving seat - the boot opening button doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe I'm just missing something. However it is very eager to open if you are standing in its vicinity for more than a few seconds, which can be a tad annoying! The rear view cameras on the cluster when you indicate are cool, but entirely useless, IMO, especially if it is raining, I haven't found myself referring to them at all. The key fob is similarly useless - IMO it is too big, and all of its buttons are pretty redundant - it will lock and unlock itself anyway, you don't need the boot button as that opens and closes automatically, and there is a 'hold' button, the purpose of which I have yet to discover. Apparently you can open the windows remotely or something, but I can't see the purpose in that. Lastly you said that you were getting 4.7m/kWh - only in my wildest dreams! Yes, it is many times more efficient than my previous car, but if I get over 3 I'm very happy. It's averaging about 2.7 for me, but that's pottering about town. I make it sound like it's a terrible car - it's not, and I would recommend it, and I probably just haven't discovered all of its features. Go for a bold colour, though, as the grey is a tad dull :)
@DefinitelyNotAGuru13 күн бұрын
It sounds like your car has a number of issues that suggest a fault somewhere. I'd take it to a dealership and let them sort it out. I was getting 4.7 without trying and I'm not the most sympathetic of drivers!
@nacekozo13 күн бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru yeah I did query it, I've done 750 miles so far, with an average of 2.7. I was told something along the lines of 'it's a brand new car, it needs time for the battery to run in and then I'll be getting better figures', or 'it's winter at the moment, and it'll be better when it gets warmer'. I sort of feel that I was being slightly fobbed off :) But even so, I've worked out that even this is about four times cheaper than my old VW Tiguan in equivalent petrol costs, and that's using a 'granny charger' only on regular rates. Funnily enough, the usual 'pet peeve' that many youtubers have with this car - the gear fob - doesn't bother me a bit, but I tend to agree with you about the slightly industrial look of the usb ports.

As the owner of a very nice 2 seat sports car and having a wife complaining we have to take her car everywhere when we have the kids, this ended up on my list and am expecting to get it in a few weeks. Just in time for the holidays. As to the car's appearance each to their own, I personally like the Robocop appearance and the interior. Thank God there are designers out there that still think of convenience rather than the ultra sterile same-same cheap to build approach that Tesla has decided to go down.

5:30 This is no different to when some companies put indicator arms on the wrong side (Nissan back in the day). I remember following a woman into a car park where she kept indicating the wrong way until she stopped. I was compelled to speak to her, and she explained that she couldn't be indicating the wrong way, it is always UP to turn left, and DOWN to turn right! I blame her driving instructor to some degree though, she learned in a Japanese car where the indicator arm was on the right, and her instructor must have used that as a method of instruction. She then bought a car with the indicator arm on the left. Some people are just not going to understand why she was wrong.

We've had our Kona Ultimate for 2 months now, resplendent in the white interior, which I must say looks much better in the flesh and gives that airiness when the sunroof is open. Went with the car since it came with a factory fit towbar option, which is a must for our cycle carrier, whilst also having an appreciably larger boot space than the wife's mini countryman which it was due to replace. Granted, because it's a salary sacrifice car and because Hive and British Gas also do free-charge, I opted with the 19" wheels despite knowing that I'll pay a penalty in range - Tyres are free to replace, so that was a deciding factor for going for the 19's (they also look better IMO, despite the polished/diamond cut faces). I can average 4.0 miles/kWh on the local hilly B roads in Gloucestershire, dropping to about 3.2 m/kWh on the motorways - i.e. a run to Heathrow Airport. We regulary get 260 miles on the guess-o-meter on a mix of rural NSLs and hilly terrain. Heathrow run at motorway speeds 8°C ambient with rain gave us a range of 235 miles, with the automatic cruise control sat at 70mph, average speed was 55mph for the 125 miles it took us to get to the airport, using 55% charge. Speaking of which, it happily swallowed 2 large samsonite cases, 1 cabin hardshell and 2x rucksacks in the boot, with the boot foor in the lowest position. Not paying for ULEZ was why I elected to use it instead of my X5 40D. Driving dynamics - It was very very surprising! To think that this has the performance of my old remapped Merc C220D was quite humbling. Body lean is very controlled, similar to the old countryman. Despite being FWD, I didn't get the sensation of understeer when taking down my favourite local twisty B roads. Keeping it in eco with the regen at level 2 gives a very good balance of pace and "engine braking" - Whilst you don't heel/toe this car to set it up for the corner, once you're used to the regen braking, it goes in very settled. The only time I've had it scrabbling for grip was when I put my foot down on a corner exit with a bit of gravel on the nearside. As for notifications and driver aids - it's become a ritutual to programme the shortcut key to the driver aids - Speed warning turned to OFF and driver alert turned OFF, so that it doesn't ping at me every time I do shoulder checks for lane changes. I have to also remove the lane keeping assist. I don't like it when the logic dictates that I need to get into the centre of the road on tight country lanes, or the unprovoked torque steer!!! There should be a "Kimi Raikkonen button" which tells the car "Shut up, I know what I'm doing!" Aside from that, it's the perfect family car. So much so that we hardly use the X5. For our use case where we can charge at home every 4 days, for free, where our average weekend journey is probably 120 miles for a round trip, it does it well. The Hyundai/Kia group have got their shit together for this one and I am more than impressed. Build is amazing and I'd say on par with the Japanese cars, having owned a Toyota Celica and Civic Type R. Perfect for our family's use case and "company car"

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Your review definitely hit the nail on the head though. It was a toss up between this and Niro EV, but the monthly salary sacrifice when all was said and done swung it in the Kona's favour. Heat pump may come in handy in winter, not that we do long journeys anyway. Definitely agree on the fun elements. The wife suggested i can get a sports coupe when I'm done with the X5, but in all honesty, I never knew I'd be having as much fun in a family EV as I did in my 4 pot screamer days.
