Addiction was certainly a huge theme in Doctor Sleep, but my interpretation is that it’s really about death, and how death makes us human. Rose the Hat says to Abra “I think the only difference between you and me is time”. She also says to her “You’d be surprised what you do, for more time”. The True Knot believe they are blessed because they “endure”, but in fact they are cursed. Their fear of death makes them willing to do the most atrocious things one can do. They live in constant fear that they won’t have enough steam one day. When they die, they simply vaporize in agony, leaving behind their clothes, as if they were never there. But when the humans at the hospice die, or Danny for that matter, they die peacefully, and it’s made very clear to us that “we go on”. Accepting death allows them to die happily and go on. Not accepting death allows the True Knot more time on Earth, but it robs them of everything that makes life meaningful and their deaths are brutal, terrifying, and it’s heavily implied that they simply cease to exist afterwards.

I don’t know what fans you’ve been talking to but I’m a fan of both and thought this film did justice to neither of them. The whole final third of the film deviated heavily from the way the story goes in the book while ruining a lot of the mystique Kubrick incorporated into his adaptation.

As a fan of Kubrick's "The Shining" I hate it when they use nostalgia to hide the movie's "suckyness"(that's a word). There's nothing wrong with going back or reviving/copying kubrick style of directing but it has to make sense why you're doing it... I will give my example... When Rose the Hat was walking in the hotel she saw the "Elevator with blood coming out" then she smiles and next scene... Like what the fuck was that??? It's like the director pulling his penis out and slap it to our face and saying "OHH YOU LIKE THE SHINING HUH... HERE'S A KUBRICK SHOT, YOU LIKE THAT SCENE RIGHT? REMEMBER THAT SCENE?"

TWO EASTER EGGS FOUND: 1/im thinking that rose's hat has powers that protect her...if you watch the film and watch her reaction when she does not have it on, she grabs it quickly as if she does not want to be separated from it...when she dies as the ghosts are feeding on her, as they finish her, it switches to a shot of her hat on the stairs...i think she protected herself with the hat, and when they attacked her it got knocked off and she was vulnerable....SECOND EASTER EGG FOUND is a reference to "It" while they are feeding on someone, their eyes shine with a dot, also seen in Pennywise as he feeds

In the book there were way more than 6 True Knot members the ones in the movies were just the top ones. They weren’t addicted to steam but needed it to stay young and live, & Barry was not the first person with measles that passed it around. They all got it from baseball boy steam and thought Abra would be the cure. Some of the members just died from it more quickly than others but they were all doomed. Also the girl that Danny abandoned (Deenie) didn’t overdose, she killed herself after her brother killed her son. The True Knot were very interesting and I wasn’t satisfied with the film adaptation of them for the most part.

O'Hara is perhaps a nod to the fictional Irish vixen Scarlett O'Hara from Margaret Mitchell's, Gone With The Wind, played by Vivien Lee.

I think the true knot is amazing and my favorite character is Rose The Hat she is the best and Rebecca did a great job

Was good fun watching them get popped by sniper fire, hated them after they killed "baseball boy". Much better than the measles outbreak that was depicted in the book. Excellent adaption, of the book. Also good character analysis, this was a fun video to watch.

Rose was portrayed exactly how I imagined her. She is, by far, my favorite of their group.

Best film of the year. Doctor Sleep is the Aliens to The Shining's Alien. The one thing that bothered me is that the True Knot characters were centuries old & looked like normal, everyday people. They should've been tattoooed & adorned with personal adornments from centuries past.
@withamboy67715 жыл бұрын
Well the thing about them is that they look as normal and harmless as possible. Besides not all of them are centuries old.

Why would they be tattooed? Not all cultures employed tattoos or other body mods.
@jabroniandcheese91943 жыл бұрын
Papa Sparks should have a few tattoos simply because he lived through 1000s of years. Not every culture has them, but a lot of them do. He'd likely have some pirate-esque one when he came over to America.

"Best film of the year" , that's just straight up 🧢cap. 2019 had a lot of good movies. I think endgame is the biggest hit of 2019.

In the movie Rose the Hat said that there are more like her but she’s the prettiest. Saying that they are not all dead that she’s not the last of her kind. Does this mean there are more knot members other knot groups or other vampire like beings like herself?

One of the re-used theme plots of horror movies over the past 90 years is that of human immortality. In horror movies, human immortality in this world is considered unnatural and can only be achieved and sustained by preternaturally artificial means that often entail taking of innocent human life and sometimes active involvement in the occult and devil bargain. This is a lot to say about how human immortality is achieved in the horror movies. The theme usually goes on to admonish there's no such thing as a free lunch. If human immortality is achieved in this world, it is typically an illusion or illusory. It has to be sustained by unnatural and horrific means or the immortality fades, meaning, it was never true immortality to begin with but rather artificial life prolongation. The moral is that humankind is meant to die as part of its natural lifecycle existence. Anything that tries to interrupt or tamper with that typically leads to horrible consequences.

The only real weak spot for me with this movie was the character of Snakebite Andi. She's introduced as a vigilante going after child predators but then she's kidnapped and offered a deal to join the Kid Killing Gang. The bad guys are literally antithesis to her & her mission. "Hey, we saw you use your powers to take down men who are preying on children. Wanna join us in hunting down, torturing & eating kids for all eternity?" And the draw that Rose uses to get Andi to agree is basically telling her that it's great because she'll stay 15, fresh & ageless forever, because it sucks when gravity starts wearing on a woman's looks? WHY would Andi want to be 15 forever? I don't know of a single 15-year-old that would want to be stuck in that awkward pre-adult phase for eternity, let alone want it so bad that they'd want to spend their immortality luring kids to their death for it (what a fun life!). And then once Andi joins them she just goes full gun-ho cartoon villain with no hesitance or moral qualms about what they do, and later in her death scene just starts going off about how much she hates men. What?? I haven't read the book to know about her original character, but for sure the movie version is terribly fleshed-out and makes no sense. Edited to add: I also think it's dorky that they call the life energy they steal "steam". I know it's from the books, but it's still funny and takes me out of it a bit. Doesn't sounds very mystical or scary. "They're gonna steal your steam!" Nooooo not my steam! Ha ha. Overall, solid movie though. Ewan especially did a great job and the story had a lot of real heart & emotion, which I always appreciate particularly in horror, which can oftentimes ring very hollow if they don't make you feel for the characters & what they're being put through.

In the book she used her powers because she hated men (because of her predator dad). Used to rob them too- think it was more than just vigilante justice against predators.

Very few sequels out-due their predecessors, but this one did. Hopefully they make a third sequel with Abra and expand on her abilities. Rose the Hat pretty much mentioned what the plot would be for the next sequel as she said her group is not the only ones in the world!!!

The book was excellent. I think they did a pretty damn good job with the film. Especially since the Kubrick film was so different than the original Shining. It was always going to be a tough project to take on. You never can please everyone. Overall... Bravo.... Really well done.

In this video it says “in the book the True Knot are made up of 6 members”. That’s not true at all. There’s like 40 something members of the True Knot. They talk about how at one time there used to be a couple hundred I think but now the number has dwindled into the 40s. And then when about half that group flee after that see what Abra was capable of doing
