/* ---- VIDEO INFORMATION ---- */
Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show, I'm your host Paul and this video we're breaking down Joker Folie A Deux.
-
The sequel to the billion dollar blockbusters now out and that ending....eeeeee we've got a lot to talk about. Throughout this video we're gonna be going through it all and discussing the easter eggs, songs, hidden details and where we leave things off.
Obviously there's heavy spoilers ahead so if you don't want it ruined then I recommend you turn off now. If you enjoy it please hit that thumbs up and subscribe to the channel where we always try and put a smile on that face.
With that out the way, thank you for clicking this, now let's get into Joker 2 Folie A Deux....electric boogaloo.
-
Ok so Joker Folie A Deux is a direct continuation of the story of Arthur Fleck. Though the first film was all about I'm going to become The Joker...part 2 is sort of I'm going to become Not The Joker.
I do wanna go more indpeth on the plot later on but with this being an ending explained I thought I'd start there. For a bit of context though Arthurs put on trial for his crimes in the first film. We close out with an explosion rocking the courthouse and Arthurs able to escape. Running back to the steps from the first film Lee breaks up with him because she realises he's not really the joker. The entire film has been about his two sides and the dual identity that exists within the character.
She had fallen in love with the Joker and breaks up with him because she realises he's not. I kinda saw this as being a flip on the classic Lois Lane Superman thing where they go back and forth on whether she'd fall in love with Clark if that was all he was.

I remember seeing a tweet from the day that Joker: Folie a Deux was announced and that it was going to be a musical. The tweet said, "This will either be the best sequel of all time, or the worst sequel of all time." And I think the reviews speak for themselves. Having Auther die from a random inmate after all that buildup from the first film and only seeing a hint of all the destruction that would follow from his "negative thoughts" really cheapens the story of the first film. And knowing that the random inmate will go on to carry his ideals by becoming the "real" Joker, makes the audience feel like the biggest joke of all. Because what's the point of following Auther's journey into madness if he's not the even the one who becomes the Joker?

If this movie was just about someone dealing with their personal and mental issues, the film would have been great but when you associate THE JOKER, one of the greatest villains to ever exist in comic book history, who even gave nightmares to even Batman, along with Harley Quinn and just make a socio-meta commentary, then it just doesn't work. We don't want to empathize with Joker, he's meant to be 1 step ahead of the situation always and not someone who just falls in love after 1 kiss and surrenders easily
@FunnyAFClipz

@@FunnyAFClipz true and that's where my major issue is. Don't call this movie the joker, don't associate the characters with DC and I'd rate this move a 9/10 but they are openly nerfing down one of the greatest comic book characters that ever existed.. and those who are saying that the filmmakers are mocking those who aspire to be like Joker, I think there are more people who like joker because of the mastermind he is but they all root for batman to defeat him at the end

You know, I'm almost glad that Auther died at the end of the film. Todd Phillips recently said that he believes that Auther wouldn't want to fight Batman if the two met and Auther would look at Batman as the "alpha male". Should that have been the case, then there's no way to really progress their dynamic as Auther wouldn't really have a motivation to commit crimes as he would look at Batman from a place of admiration.

Not necessarily. So the songs are an escape for Arthur, sure I can buy that. But then what do they serve for us as the audience? Stories are written to entertain, teach a lesson, moral etc. If you look at this film as a whole, what do these sequences serve? To elongate the story? Teach us a lesson? It's all subjective and you can look at these songs and like it. But that does not mean the criticism of the songs are invalid. Honestly, it feels like these songs were put there because they had Lady Gaga. Because they had no direction to go based on the first film and the constraints WB put on the story. They could not use Batman or allude to any of the bigger lore. Which is a ridiculous crutch. There are plenty of stories that focus on Joker and his psychology. It works even better when he has a foil to work off of, like say Batman. I personally think this sequel was unnecessary but its really cool we have 2 Joker solo films. We need more originality from WB/Discovery.
@lepersonnage371
@lepersonnage371 2 сағат бұрын
@@TonyOhanian-f3v These musical sequences are what Arthur imagines not just for no reason obviously. He was in love with a real person for the first time and that person also liked his joker persona, so he was imagining them in different contexts singing and dancing, this is what people do, imagining different kinds of dreamy stuff about someone they love, and for Arthur it's especially understandable, it's also a good way to give more scenes with him in the Joker persona, and Joker in general in comic books, cartoons and games was singing and doing the musical numbers, like the I Go Looney song from the Killing Joke, or him singing at the end of all Arkham games. It's just in the character's DNA

musicals usually use the songs to further the story. Best example is Buffy. They had a musical episode where every song advanced the characters. Xander and Anya about the worries of marriage, Spike about loving buffy but refusing to simp for her, Buffy being a masochist who was revived and cant feel anything, Giles seeing himself as a father figure, Tera singing about how Willow is essentially raping her with magic. Where as musicals like Flash and now Joker, are just there because "lol lets do a song and dance because we can!"

Paul's slick hair is somewhat inspired by the Joker, i see you. 13:10 the cartoon of the Murray show sees "the confident" Joker wearing a toga almost Jesus like, possibly representing his good side with the translucent version next to him being Jokers bad, inner thought side with both being watched by Arthur from Arkham further leaning into it's all been in his head. Interestingly the Harley, Joker & Arthur Fleck tryst we see is that fictional comic book hero trope - does she like me or the alt' me paralleled in the Super, Spider & Batman along with their split personalities being seen as good or bad depending upon perspective. I can imagine Fleck was thinking about or read comics whilst in Arkham so It is all connected. ✌

Ironically, the ending is almost beat for beat of Willem Dafoe's Joker pitch to Todd Philips of having someone who is really inspired to be like Aruther's Joker but is slightly different. Almost like having two different Jokers in the same film riding off of Geoff Johns Batman The Three Jokers comic run but simplifying the story. I think Dafoe's pitch is still a better story then what we actually received.

I’ve been saying this since DAY 1. joker making a billion was a fluke and totally because it rode the coattails of comic book movie peak of 2019. If it makes $500 million, that will be generous!

I have no problem with this ending. This was always supposed to be an off beat anthology movie. No continuity between anything else.Who gives af.

I had no intention of seeing this, I hated the first one, so wasn't going to part with money for this. Based on your review I would have probably hated this even more. Bur if this rings your bell then I'm happy for you, just not for me

Just because the the second movie was bad doesn't give you the authority to say foolish things it's not nice to lie your only lying to yourself but keep it to yourself see how lies like that will shattered your minds ego like a horse getting it on with you in the barn

@@bla7721 Huh? I said I didn't like the first movie, which makes me not want to see the 2nd one, and what are you talking about 'Lies'? and it's shatter not 'shattered'. I'm guessing English isn't your mother tongue. But have fun with your horses. You weirdo.

So he was on trial for killing Murray Franklin and not the therapist/social worker at the end of the first movie? Almost like these movies have always been about mental illness and the unreliable narrator story we’ve gotten from Arthur Fleck who was never really Joker, imagine that. I’ve always doubted anything we saw in that first movie truly went down the way it did since Fleck is an unreliable narrator, but that’s me.

I haven't seen it and was not interested in doing so. My reason was simple: Once I'd heard it would be a musical, it was a No from me.

I need my joker with physical scars or taking a chemical bath. This guy never made the cut for me. Js oh yeah batman actually took Arthur's pregnant (actually didn't die) wife into protective custody in the comics. It later issue.

The movie was dark with a side of dark,definitely more joker 1.5/Arthur Fleck. The brutality of joker is that he is hysterical as no one sees him, in the court it’s all about how trauma was deleted and how everyone wantsa smiley face rather than truth. I thought themoviewasgreat, it’s definitely fragmented, musical pieces might have been better as dialogue it was definitely interesting, better than Marvelblandness.,
