The song she sang was really to let her Umma know that she is NOT her daughter and she only remembered that song because of the husband’s memories, not the daughter’s. The Korean soldier was pretending that she was a ‘comfort woman’ in order to get her on base. She had no idea why he was saying that to the American soldiers. He explained that it’s the only way because of the communist spies. I always enjoy your reviews!! Thank you 😊

sandra Jones would like to read Egg Salad’s response, but I would argue that as you said, “Comfort Women” were exclusively women who were trafficked and forced into sex slavery, while prostitutes (who may have brought to sex work by the same means) might be understood as having more autonomy in there choice of patron(?) client (?) caller (?) Not sure what the most appropriate word would be. Great episode, however.

So I got the hint that in addition to Ji-Ah's best friend being a spy she was also gay. Look at the affection she was showing Ji-Ah and they also discussed being able to be free and living in their truth. If you notice the fox only came out of Ji-Ah when she started to experience pleasure and orgasmed. That was the trigger for it, because when her and Tic did it the first time it didn't come out because only he climaxed. However, the last time they did it the fox came out because Ji-ah actually started to enjoy them making love and expierenced pleasure for him (hence why her mom knew she wouldn't be able to control it long if she loved Tic) I think she should have just got one more random soul and then moved onto being with Tic. This also makes sense to why in episode 1 in Tic's dream Ji-Ah came out of the ufo and he saw her as a beautiful alien because after his experience with her although he loved her he saw her as strange because of the fox experience. It would be so nice for them to talk about it, I hope this isn't the last time we see Ji-Ah.

I also think Tic and Jiah still love each other but Tic's image of her has changed. He did call her and wanted to talk but either Fear or Confusion prevented him from speaking. Jiah also still loves him she warns him twice and is concerned about his fate. I hope she goes to America to try and save him but maybe things get worse because of her intervention and outside forces ? ( a Demon or Spirit vs Racist Cults and Witchcraft / Alchemists )

What ever the ending to the finale I kinda feel like Death is certain for Tic ? 1. Tic is stricken by Grief or Shame by the outcome in the climax ( by Montrose or Letty or Jiah's Death ) Tic kills himself 2. The Ritual ( Tic is the Sacrifice like the first Ritual ) and is the only way to end things once and for all ? Or The Ritual is prevented good guys win but Tic still sacrifices himself to protect his family from the other lodges from trying to come after him through his family ?

I find it ironic that Ji-Ah’s mother describes her as incapable of feeling anything and a monster as long as she’s not completely human yet Ji-Ah’s job is a nurse in the war which is literally one of the most caring things you can do. Not to mention her falling for and having true loving feelings for Atticus. Just shows that once people have a mindset of viewing someone a certain way, there’s not much you can do to change that.

I think Jiah will be coming to America to actually save Atticus from the sons of Adam... because she loves him but she's not human. I believe Tic actually loves her too. Wow it seems like next episode is gonna be enlightening since Tic's aunt has figured out how to open the time machine n she is definitely using it. I wonder though...how will it affect the show? Frank Ballard I think you may be on to something. After reading your comment I rewatched Ji-Ah’s memory. At first I thought it was the the woman in episode 1 that Tic was on the bus with, but she may have been older than the woman in the memory. Did you notice the Racial propaganda about U.S. military in the cartoon at the beginning. It also showed racial bias and prejudice in what appeared to be a black person in the cartoon acting a certain way. Atticus was “following orders” when he killed the nurse. This is the same excuse of Hitlers henchmen, through the Stanford project and many other people who committed horrors So this episode goes once again where it’s like parents are giving the most F-ckup advice to children for their own personal gain. What’s really sad is Her moms used her, had a shaman turn her into a creature to kill her husband because he was molesting her daughter. All because The mother had a baby out of wedlock and wanted to hide her shame...talk about taking the worst turn as a parent, turn your kid into a monster. It kind of shows the sins of the parents fall on their children. Her daughter has to now be/live/absorb this demon and the Mudang basically let’s her know she will be seeing more death. I wonder if she will go to America to help Atticus This episode does help to explain Atticus seemingly ability to accept the supernatural. Now we know what it means when he said their relationship “ended strange”

How did Christina know that tic had a first love back in Korea if she didnt have access to the time machine? Because from what i analyzed about ep 2 when they were all psychologically chastised in their rooms, they all seen the people they deeply desired. Tic desires Ji ha yet she tried to kill him. Could that have been the possible fate of tic and Ji ha. She will become one with the darkness and try to kill him which he will then have to kill her, the one he desires? Letti desires tic and he turned out to be a complete monster who scares her then she kills him. As we see in ep 4, Letti sees more and more of tics aggressive & dark sides and she becomes even more afraid to the point she grips the bat in her hands as though she was about to attack him. Idk, but something is UP with Ji ha showing up like that dressed as a "solider" and trying to take tic out as if she did't even recognize who he was at all. I think ep 2 was sort of telling some possible future events. Im going to rewatch

Even though the focus was on the Korean culture, I thought it was very interesting that the root of what was going on with Ji-Ah is a very prominent issue within the black community, too! Umma was not able to protect her daughter and it even seemed that she was protective of her husband and still had a high regard for him even though what he was doing was clearly wrong! She seemed more concerned about having a man around for status.This is an issue that some black mothers face because whether they are a single parent or just having a hard time finding the right one, sometimes the wrong ones are brought around their children out of their desperation for love, consequently the children reap the consequences of their lover’s secret motives behind the mother’s back, sexually assaulting/molestation. Sometimes the abuse continues to happen even after the mother finds out due to denial or fear of losing “a good thing”. They fail in protecting their children. I did catch that Umma had Ji-Ah out of wedlock. So, was the husband Ji-Ah’s biological parent, resulting in an incest molestation, or someone that came into the picture after the fact? Either way it is disgusting, but there are people abused by their own biological parents, too. It was great that they shed light on these issues regardless of what culture or ethnicity! It needs to be talked about. Something else that was apparent was how sexual abuse at a young age effects the victim in adulthood. Regardless of Ji-Ah being possessed by the fox spirit, she slept with 100 men. I know this was a requirement to break the curse, however this is a struggle that some victims of sexual abuse face: being promiscuous and sleeping around trying to find real love. This was a great episode with so much to unpack, but this is what stood out to me!
@sarad26594 жыл бұрын
Why do you think she had a high regard for her husband? She asks her daughter not to speak of him and tries to convince her what he did was wrong, even when her daughter didn't understand.
@Micki12184 жыл бұрын
It was her mom's husband, not Ji-Ah's father. Also, she had the kumiho was summoned to avenge her daughter and I do think as part of her guilt The idea that this occurs more in one community than the other is baseless.
@amc.amarie4 жыл бұрын
Sarah D2 the fact that it happened once and continued to happen after the fact is what makes me feel she had a high regard for him. Also based on how she was adamant about a man being in the home for status implied this too. Maybe it wasn’t necessarily regard, it could have been fear or even guilt from shame of having a child out of wedlock. Maybe she felt this deserved for this to happen because of this. All I know is she did not protect her daughter.
@amc.amarie4 жыл бұрын
Micki1218 ok thank you for clarifying! And I did not imply that it happens in one community more than another. I just simply stated it’s a prominent issue within the black community. Since the main issues at the forefront are a lot of racial injustices blacks have and are still facing, I just thought it was interesting that even the the focus on the episode was the Korean War and that culture, the issue at hand is something that is huge in the black community. But I get your point because it happens within many communities.

18:16 Did anyone else notice that the potion Ruby took turned her to the lady with the dogs in that tower in episode 1. There seems to be some other strange connections we've not taken notice of in the show's running this season. She could have turned into any other lady.... how come it was this particular one?
@lopplane87624 жыл бұрын
Yes. I said that last week. I too wonder "why her". I don't trust Christina, but I think she may be in love with Ruby even with an agenda of course. Think about it: Even though Ruby physically transformed, she was still herself. My interpretation is that though she physically was William, she still was her. Hence in last week episode of asking Ruby " Does she care for William?" eyeing her dearly and using their intimate conversations to get Ruby to open up. Also Christina's quote of "You want to be us and we want to be you" . Christina singled Ruby out with purpose surely, but maybe the intimacy is something that will go beyond just an acted jesture. Transforming into William for her to recieve equal treatment in society and gaining the lodge that she believes is hers is beneficial. It may also be beneficial if she is a lesbians: she is able to act upon something she truly wants with unmitigated freedom.

I wonder how this tied into episode 2. While it was magic, they tried to kill each other, and it was imagined that she was a soldier. While here she was a nurse and loved him.
@amc.amarie4 жыл бұрын
Maybe her being in the form of a soldier has to do with his own convictions of becoming a soldier and the things he had to do (kill), another conviction. It seems that was the point of the daydreams displaying their convictions: George and his affair with Tic’s mom, Leti growing on Tic and her desire for him sexually (although I’m not quite sure of the snake peen lol). But from this episode we see that Tic did truly care for Ji-Ah. Also, his daydream could have been him fighting for his life. From his perspective he did not know what the hell that monster creature was and could’ve thought she was trying to kill him (which in essence that’s what the fox demon does... kill souls for vengeance). Idk just a thought

There's no excuse for killing ppl on orders and while I don't condone in Tic doing so I also understand the position he was in while serving in the U.S. military during a time of racial prejudice and segregation for black ppl in America. Him disobeying an order during that time could've been ugly for him. I will say to his credit and defense that at least he had a conscious into understanding that he's done bad. We can't imagine that because we didn't live in an era where the color of your skin and your actions against your military superiors who were white could constitute in reprimand that wouldn't be a good look so to speak. They could've imprisoned Tic for many years (and the irony is ppl back then should've been imprisoned for war crimes against killing innocent ppl) or decided that death would be his punishment just because he didn't follow orders in a white man's military during that time and I'm pretty sure his family wouldn't have received anything in compensation except for the military calling him a traitor or coward back then. 🤷🏾♂️ Unfortunate that innocent ppl died back in Korea or Germany but you and I both know black ppl didn't have too much of a choice back then. Fortunately for us much has changed in today's military than what it used to be.

The Jeneral J.U.-ICE “Only following orders” is just too Nazi for me. For me, it’s even more offensive to hear a Black person invoke that phrase as a defense. Nazis did it, and Black overseers did the same to their own people during slavery. I’m disgusted by Tic at the moment. Luckily, it’s just a character on a show, and it’s just my opinion. 😉

What a lovely & civil debate you 2 are having...... I'm going to have to weigh in on this because @TAO TAO mentioned that she doesn't like Tic anymore and compared him to Anakin Skywalker, "for following orders." My question, is what made you like him from the beginning? Is it his interesting intellectual background stemmed with abuse and torture from both family and Society ? Because this episode gave us more of his character development which makes him even more interesting. Or is it the handsome (not to mention PHINE actor ) Johnathan Majors who embodies the character of Tic. Because we all know that Anakin is no Atticus. Anakin was crazy when he went to the Jedi Temple and kill all those younglings. He was already over the cliff. Tic was just trying to have some normalcy in a time of war with a pretty young lady. Come on...... this man set up for a big screen and projector w/ a flower in hand for his date....IJS Just good for thought. LOL
