I think the greatest thing about this band is not their music, but the fact that they didn't ditch their drummer after he lost an arm in a car accident. That's true friendship and loyalty.

The story according to MTV at the time, was that the drummer began figuring out ways to drum one-handed while he was still in the hospital bed recuperating from the accident that cost him his arm. He would tap out rhythms with his remaining hand and his two feet while in bed. That's dedication.

Yeah but then stop and think about the pete willis thing and not so much what happened to the loyalty there they said it was because of his drinking and partying but hell they was all wild back then high n dry .

1983, 22 years old, Bartending at a killer local bar, living with five good friends in a party house with indoor pool, driving a new 1983 Boss 302 Mustang, Def Leopard always blasting, Wow, The best times ever. I’ve tried to tell my kids what they missed. From Atlanta, Georgia. I think I was blessed to experience the best times this world has seen.

I saw Skid Row open for Bon Jovi. I never made it to a Def Leppard show. It hurts. But I went to so many amazing shows in those days. I count myself as very fortunate. Def Leppard was such a gift. All their songs 100% hold up to this day. And they effortlessly connect me to some of the best times in my life...

@@TruthWiz they definitely connect with some of the best times of my life as well. I remember being a teeny bopper, and me & my best friend would roll up into the local pool hall/arcade and the first thing we would do was throw a couple of quarters in the jukebox and put on Rock of Ages. We just had let everyone know we were there and we were ready to party. 🤘🏼😎

When I hear this song, I’m overwhelmed with the feeling that we don’t realize we’re living the best days of our lives until they’ve long since passed. I was 17 and a junior in high school when this was a huge hit. I was in such a damn hurry to grow up and leave all the teenage “bullshit” behind. Now that I’m all grown up, 52 now, I’d give anything to live these days once again.

Same here. Lots of memories (both bitter and sweet) linked to that song (and the album). Fun, friends, girls - some of them long gone and buried. The strange part is - in the 80s I always had the feeling that it is a "special time". Still don't know exactly why. Maybe it just was the youth. Now, over 30 years later, I know it was not only "special", it was a magical time! Do I want it back? Probably not. But the memory will always put a smile on my face...

Yep takes me right back to my awkward early teens (50 now). I was a freshman in high school when this was all over the airwaves and got sick of hearing it but it’s funny how time changes your perspective. The following year I discovered Rush and as I got more into all kinds of music over the ensuing decades I wrote these guys off as cheesy but fun 80s hair metal. When I started collecting vinyl in my early 20s, “Pyromania” was one of my first acquisitions and I formed a new appreciation for that and their earlier albums but still thought of “Hysteria” as cheesy. Now I can’t stop listening to this damn song because in my old age I’m learning to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of a well-written and perfectly executed song. On the nostalgia front, this would’ve been PERFECT nighttime driving music after saying goodbye to my first girlfriend in May ‘92, knowing that we just kissed for the last time because I was going away for the summer then off to college while she was moving away from my hometown. Songs like this are MADE for moments in our lives like that! Ah, the angst, yearning and innocence of youth. 😉

This was literally my first favorite band and they still remain one of my very favorites to this day. Rick Allen's drumming (pre and post accident) has been an inspiration to me. Prior to the accident, he inspired me to be the youngest member of several bands that I joined. I had to lie about my age so that I could play on stage for many shows since I was 16 and my bandmates were in their 20's. Rick Allen did the same thing. Rick lost an arm and I was injured as a firefighter and I had to have my hip replaced and it changed how I approach playing the drums. I was a double bass machine and now I'm much like Rick Allen and Nicko McBrain, a single pedal is all we need (though I still have a double pedal instead of two bass drums). I found it amazing and pure happenstance that I've been playing the same gear as he has (minus some of the electronics). I play Yamaha drums and use Yamaha hardware and I use Zildjian cymbals. I have added some electronic elements to my drumming, but I don't have a trigger pedal for my left foot to be the snare drum since I have my left arm. After my surgery, thinking of Rick Allen struggling to learn to play minus his left arm encouraged me to continue to play when I wanted to retire because I felt that I had lost my skills. What's a metal drummer to do when he can't play metal anymore? Side note: after several years of physical therapy and working out, I'm going back to two bass drums.
