When Elvis blasts out of the BARITONE RANGE and brings his BASS ROOTS into the TENOR RANGE AND ABOVE it's remarkable. NO ONE SANG LIKE HIM. It's that Southern CHURCH AUTHENTIC FEEL. He mastered that. Noone could stay in that MID SECTION that he does and score hits but Elvis did just that. Baritone and GRIT. He sells the song home EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Like he's not even trying. GOLDEN LICKS from the skies above.

I'm not knocking Elvis, my sister was a huge fan of. his as was my Mother and most the rest of the world it was constantly playing in our house on the record player . I'm just saying that John Farnham is also an singer and entertainer, and perhaps does different genres. We all have our favourites , opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one, and I'm entitled to my opinion as well. Once again, Elvis was fine I'm not saying he wasn't .

This song was written by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel and a massive hit for them. But when Paul Simon heard Elvis perform their song he simply said” how the heck can we follow that?” Elvis’s voice is phenomenal and he always makes every song his own, singing with his heart and soul. He cared so much to entertain his audiences. It’s so cool to see his affect on you and see the realisation that he was an incredible human. No dark side to Elvis. What you see is what you got. A talented perfectionist,a humble, kind and generous soul who just wanted to make people happy. Millions of Global fans over 7 decades ( and still getting new ones) can’t be wrong. The haters in the background just pretend because of jealousy and the mistaken belief it’s not “cool” to admire Elvis, or are still mislead by bogus information put out in the 1950s. If you really want to go to church with Elvis, do listen to his Grammy winning gospel song” How Great Thou Art”👌🕺💕

Agree, it ticked off fanbases of other artists that Elvis was the original G.O.A.T. and remains so to this day. There's also a lot of misinformation out there with respect to Elvis...people don't look into the basis of the lies, they just believe them. Example: "Elvis stole Big Mama Thornton's 'That's Alright, Mama.'" No he didn't; the song was written by 2 Jewish guys; she had already had a hit with it 3 years prior, royalties were paid for the song & Elvis didn't even use her version.

Incredibly honest reaction to a mesmeric rendition. A bit of background to this performance - 11 August 1970, Dinner Show in Las Vegas By August 1970 Elvis was back on top, not just the king of rock 'n' roll but now arguably the King of entertainment. The six shows filmed by MGM for That's The Way It Is showcase Elvis at the height of his powers. He had managed to combine the theatrics and bombast of Vegas, and incorporate them in his show which resulted in a performance that was almost as much Broadway as Las Vegas. Now Elvis had finally found a way in which to integrate all of his musical influences, and country music for example, finally had a place within the Elvis repertoire. Probably the biggest musical influence on Elvis, and that closest to his heart, was gospel music and in 'Bridge Over Troubled Water' he found a song in which that influence could shine through. Whereas the original recording by Simon (the song's composer) and Garfunkel is somewhat subdued Elvis turns it into a powerful showpiece. This performance, only the second time that he had sung it live, is Elvis Presley at his absolute peak and anyone who hears this cannot possibly have any doubts as to his vocal prowess or to the magnificent entertainer that he had become.

Elvis is my favorite singer and has been since I was in high school (I’m nearly 50 now). His voice gives me goosebumps in this song. And when you said it feels like he’s singing *for* you? EXACTLY. Elvis had an amazing ability not just singing, not his charisma, but that he could make you feel it was for you. One of my favorites of his is the Wonder of You. It feels like a thank you letter to his fans. I cry when I hear it.

The performance here must be the one witnessed by the song's writer Paul Simon. His reaction? He is said to have blurted out, "Now what am I supposed to do?" He knew Elvis had taken the song to a level no one else ever could. It was like a religious experience. It was as if God had spoken through Elvis, using the words of Paul Simon. Divine is a word that comes to mind.

Elvis grew up very poor, and had a very close relationship to his mother. She was very strict on him because she loved him so much. His dad was even in prison for a while, which made him his mom even closer. Then, when Elvis served in the army, his mom died, and it was almost as if his whole world had stopped! He never ever really recovered from his mom’s death, even though he became a huge star. His mom raised him in church, and he would often slip away and go to the black church, because he love their music so much! God certainly raised him up for a special time to be used in a special way! Those that criticize him are just jealous of what he had! There has never been, and will never be another Elvis!❤

I like John Farnham. Legend. But Elvis owns this song in a live environment. Elvis’ passion and story telling is on another level. His deep baritone was something no one had - it was cavernous. And those backup singers raised the bar again. Impossible to match Presley on a stage- practically everyone including John Farnham were influenced by him.

The people who spread hate on Elvis because they couldn't match him. Never did Elvis talk about another singer. If someone asked him about other singers he would politely not answer that question. All us women wanted Elvis and all the guys wanted to be Elvis. He was a beautiful gospel singer like no other. How Great Thou Art when he was in concert he would put his own spin on it. It's the best I've ever heard it. He didn't record it that way but I wish he would have. He could sing everything he made it a hit. He loved all of his fans and yes we loved him back to the end. Have you ever hear Elvis's daughter sing? Lisa Marie sung a few songs with her dad through modern technology. Don't Cry Daddy was a tear jerker but it's a great watch!!!

I listened to the John Farnham version after this one. If the song was meant as a showcase for how loud and powerful a singer can be with a microphone then I would vote for him. He sustains it almost from the beginning right to the very end. Very talented. But if the song is meant to be a vehicle for a sincere and emotional message wrapped up with anticipation of what a voice can do, Elvis will always win. In the beginning he softly and intmately convinces his audience that he will be there for them no matter what. The build-up is gradual and dramatic. Beautiful storytelling. He never yells but the power is undeniable. It's not just his voice. He seems to wring every note out of every cell of his body. His very stillness, every expression on his face, every slight or obvious body movement instinctually interprets the message of his songs. That's why there can't be another Elvis for me.

This song saved my life when I watched it in March I was grieving my son who was born stillborn five years ago it was around his birthday and I was a numb miserable mess and I watched some Elvis because he has been my comfort this year and this came on and I felt God through hid voice, his face and emotion and I felt like God literally told me you are not alone I am your Bridge over Troubled Water so I know longer see Elvis as just a great entertainer or the sexiest man I've ever seen he is heart and soul and a friend and my big brother and a vessel for God to speak through, he conveys the human experience like a friend in song better than anyone I know and there are allot of greats that touch my soul but I just cannot explain what he does but he does it! You are spot on. Elvis is Elvis. No one has or will come close to the way he takes a song & makes it his own. He sings with such soul & heart. He tells the story with that exquisite voice with expert range. But never to disrespect the original artist. He never disappoints. That is why he is so respected and loved. Paul Simon had said when he heard Elvis' rendition of this song: "We may as well pack our bags and go home. How can you top that?" Enjoy your journey!😊

It’s called JEALOUSY! Anyone that says Elvis is trash tells me more about them than anything else ever could. Just because no one has ever or will ever come close to his all around talent doesn’t give anyone the right to bash him. The man could sing and he was beautiful to look at. He was the epitome of debonair. Many just can’t handle that. I would’ve volunteered to try, though! He’s the best, hands down. No one delivers a song like him or looks better doing it. No one. He didn’t need a choreographer, vocal coach, auto tune, nothing. That’s a lot more than more than a few can say these days. Put a real mic in some of their hands and we’ll all be running to the nearest exit. That’s the truth.

About 15 years ago I was teaching at an independent military boarding school. There was a young lady from a very wealthy family whose mother had passed away when she was 3. Her stepmother didn't want her around, so she stayed with our family during furloughs. Because she had never really felt secure, and even though we told her she was our daughter now, she assumed when she graduated and she was no part of the school we would no longer "keep" her. She was very much wrong. She is completing her PhD, living with her wonderful partner, and working at a job she loves. This song is our song for her, especially now. Her time has come for Our Silver Girl. She is sailing by, but my husband and I will always be like a bridge over troubled water if she ever needs us.

I Love how Elvis sings this song, about this song this is what I found out: It is made by Simon & Garfunkel. After the album Bridge over Troubled Water in 1970, Simon embarked on a successful solo career. No one else has earned the epithet "world class songwriter" more. For five decades, Paul Simon has built bridges not only over "troubled waters" but across entire oceans by musically uniting different continents. But Elvis sing this song so beautiful and graceful that you may think it was written for him.

Great reaction. And yeah, it wasn't just in his music, he was a really special human being. If you haven't watched it yet, there is a short documentary called Elvis and the Black Community. I've seen a lot of people react to part 1 of it, and it's a real eye-opener. I bet you would dig it.

Elvis Presley covered many stunning songs throughout the years from some extremely popular artists. While performing in concert he lent his voice to such incredible tracks as Frank Sinatra's My Way, The Beatles' Something and Yesterday and even Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline. But when he recorded one of Paul Simon's songs for an album, the singer-songwriter was gobsmacked. Simon was one half of the fantastic folk-rock duo, Simon & Garfunkel. Throughout their years writing and performing songs together, the two Americans earned over a dozen awards for their work. However, it wasn't until the early 1970s that they caught the eye of Elvis. On January 20, 1970, Simon & Garfunkel released the title track from their fifth studio album: Bridge over Troubled Water. By the end of the year, Elvis covered the song for his 12th studio album, That's The Way It Is. And Simon was truly honoured to have the King of Rock and Roll play his song. Simon praised the 'dramatic' version of the song in a 1972 interview. He added: 'But so was the song. When I first heard Elvis perform Bridge Over Troubled Water it was unbelievable'. He went on to berate himself, however, saying: 'I thought to myself: 'How the hell can I compete with that?'.

I think some people just make a living from showing hate to others, I've been a huge Elvis fan for 45 years. Although I enjoy other music, especially the purity of hearing Karen Carpenter but I always come back to Elvis because there is a warmth, peace and spirituality to his music. Hearing him sing you can just feel the beautiful person he was. RIP and thanks for showing us all what the power of goodness can achieve.

Elvis’ music and knowing his humble beginnings is what touches my soul to the core. You can’t judge any man until you walk a mile in his shoes. Elvis carried some very big responsibilities, heartaches and disappointments on his shoulders.

I was 12 when Elvis died, and I cried and cried for weeks. I loved him and his music so much. I think I watched every movie he ever made too. Now.... I just watched your reaction to our John Farnham doing this song and they are so completely different. Elvis has that deep, silky voice, where John has a higher smoother voice. Well, that's my opinion anyway. I love them both and although I grew up with easy access to John (I'm Aussie, living in Melbourne), I will always have a special place in my heart, and my music list, for Elvis. There will always only ever be one Elvis Presley and there will only ever be one John Farnham. Love your reactions too btw 🥰
