The thing that always bugs me, is people assume the Egyptians always dressed how they are portrayed in imagery. That's like saying every modern American dresses in a suit and tie because you see the leader's photos in a suit and tie. Therefore everyone must have dressed that way. No, these essentially were "dressing up for the camera" sort of speak.

Yes - There was definitely symbolism and meaning imbued into the way the king was portrayed. Everything was laden with meaning!
