@@christianhackl474 I personally disagree with that. I think that Chino Moreno is better at making his voice feel otherworldly, even if it does not have the same traditionally pleasant sound. Chinos voice is like nothing I've ever heard. He purposely sings out of tune at times and it still sounds fucking great. The atmosphere they create in every song, especially in their slower songs like Sextape and their acoustics. Quite an amazing band in many ways

What’s interesting about Deftones is when you listen to all of their albums and pay attention to the evolution of the band. Moving from the 90’s to the Nu Metal boom of the early 00’s, through the tough times of Chi dying to where they are now. Way back when they were all about the grooves and the experimentation, nowadays they’ve got more of an ethereal quality to them where the whole band seems to just soar. They’re one of my all timers. Got a very special place in my heart for this band. I can totally see where Miller’s coming from as they can be an acquired taste, but if you find that point where they gel with you, you’re in there for good. Great criticisms and valid points throughout. Stellar work, fellas.

I know how the guy with the red shirt feels I use to try to get into deftones but couldn’t understand why they were so good as people made them sound but then I started to listen to their hard/heavy songs and worked my way to their softer songs which made me appreciate them and come to be my favorite band of all time I even have it tatted on me. It’s one of those bands you have to find that one song you like and give it time let the album play on KZbin even if you’re not enjoying it at the moment with deftones you need to be patient and the feelings you get are worth it. Not like any other band.

I get you Jon. I love Deftones and my friends don't. They don't hate the songs and everytime I'd make them listen to Deftones...they will sit through it but they never appreciate the songs the way I do. I feel like this is one of those acquired tastes type of situation. Plus you have to be a certain age to love and appreciate Deftones. I was 15-16 and the self titled album had just released and I was hooked to hexagram for the next two weeks. I don't think I will fall in love with a song like that now...at the prime juicy age of 29. But I can always go back and fall in love with that album and the memories.

I have been dealing with the struggle, for years, on how to describe how Deftones make me feel. I cant yet. It seems to me there are two categories here. Those who love Deftones and those who Experience Deftones. If I didnt have Deftones, a part of my identity would cease to exist. It is a journey. Its transcendent. Its an out of body experience. Borderline religion. Its a center you can vibrate your energies on. No matter what mood, that peace is ever present. Its the only sounds you can literally, in every way, ride on... into forever.

The terms that were sorely missing in this video to describe Deftones and some of their musical tactics is "shoegaze" and "dream pop". If this was my first impression of Deftones, I wouldn't get it either. In fact, I think it was one of my first impressions of Deftones and I just kinda thought they were slightly heavy generic alternative rock. I felt that way for years. It wasn't until I couldn't avoid hearing them at a music festival where I was able to understand their appeal. Bizarrely, it helped that I had a migraine headache at the time as it gave the music an even more hazy feel to it. I would suggest for Simon that he listen to an album of Deftones, rather than merely a song. If there's still nothing there for him after that, then he probably just won't dig them. Or if you go for just a song, it HAS to be Digital Bath, Knife Prty or Change. Because those have immediate hooks that will make you want to listen to more of what they have.

I had the same reaction to Deftones at first. When i heard this song for the first time (i was 15 years old and listening to nothing else but Metallica and Slayer) i found it off-puting. Now it's my one of my favourite songs ever. I think the dissonance of the song is sounding 'off' at first, but if you get used to it, you don't want anything else. It's like drinking coffee for the first time, it's so bitter. And after a while you start to like the bitter taste and actually can't live without it. It's the flat fucking five that get's ya

I struggled listening to this band originally as I didn't allow myself to feel the music. I didn't understand what their lead singer was saying most of the time, while the lyrics were often left up to the interpretation of the listener, causing more confusion. Deftones was a band that I fell in love with the more I heard them, because I allowed the music to evoke an emotion within me, and understood the lyrics in a way that made sense to me. they are by far my FAVORITE band today and I listen to them daily. As spoken here however, it took repeated listening to songs and a considerable bit of time.
