When you’re judging entire songs, I agree. But the breakdown on Bloody Cape and the last minute of Engine No. 9 give it some competition.

Stephen Carpenter is a genius. I love his use of harmony, especially his proclivity for Maj. 7ths; I have a doctorate in musical composition, so I can tell you that his use of harmony is completely unique within the rock genre. Korea is one of my favorite songs; probably listened to it at least1000 times. As talented as the other band members are, it is Stephen Carpenter’s guitar compositions that are the main reason for the band’s success. I hope you guys are working on a new album. I loved Ohms, especially the title track. The whole album was great; profound and mystical; one of your best.

A few days ago (November 11th) at around 8:00 PM, I found out it was National Metal Day in the U.S. and I had done nothing to celebrate. So I spent the rest of the night spinning my White Pony 20th Anniversary vinyl and headbanging into oblivion. This song in particular was on repeat a lot. It’s a masterpiece honestly, the chorus in particular has some of the craziest screams I’ve ever heard.
