@@evo3s75 I mean, most of those problems would have easy solutions. F-16, MiG-29 should go to 12.0, and F-14, MiG-23MLD, Mirage 2000, etc to 11.7. Once all those planes start facing each other more, I wouldn't see any problem with an F-4F at 11.3 with 4xAIM-9L, it just makes sense and doesn't turn it into a "tier 8 plane". Irl, the upgrade that gave the F-4F Mavericks and flare dispensers also gave it AIM-9L, it's absolutely historical, such a shame Gaijin denied it...

@@thebirbestbirb I think we have a slight problem with that, the F-4E we have in game is representative of the late years of the Vietnam war, a 1971-72 Block 48 model. In USAF service only later Blocks of the E variant remained in service long enough to get AIM-9L and other new weapons. Imo a better option would be the F-4G, which despite being more oriented towards strike missions coud still carry 4xAIM-9L and 4xAIM-7F/M. It still wouldn't have PD radar and an internal gun, but with those missiles it would be much more competitive

Hey, DEFYN, there's actually one more thing that redeems american F-4J. It has got HMD or HMS or however you call it. And radar targeting with it as well. It may not be as potent as HMD for MiG29, but it's still there and better you have one than none at all. It requires a different approach given F-4J only has AIM-9G and AIM-7F (one is not all-aspect, the other has pretty smol targeting area), but it is still a HMD. And both these things (HMD and 7F instead of Skyflash) do their job making american F-4J significantly less useless than this junk.

I just got this plane on sale because a friend also got it. I was going to get the japanese F4EJ but they said this one was better. I don't think it's Junk, instead it's mid. I can get a base and a kill almost every match (I use rockets because bombs are too heavy), and in good matches I get 3 kills. The best part is that most matches last only 10 minutes so it's very efficient to grind. The biggest problem you have is that at 90% of the time you will play at 12.3, where everything outclass you. So you must stay low and with your team. You're strong in head ons but have very little options when the enemy is on your 6 so you must learn how not to get into those situations. I would say my kills are 60% Skylashs, 30% cannon and 10% aim-9s.

Missile trucks at top tier aren't "good" but they are extremely effective atm. You can just fly right in and spam missiles out till you get 2 or 3 kills then count on speed to keep you alive a little longer. Not very skillful, but as you said decent for grinding. I actually do better in phantoms than most other things at top tier these days.

Yup, I skipped the phantom to rush up to the tomcat and now that I'm coming back to it I'm finding it remarkably pleasant to fly. Going 1.5:1 in the J without much effort. The C now, I had a good start with but now it's trending towards 1:2. I should give up trying to hit people with the AIM-7Ds and that craptacular radar.

I was lucky enough to have gotten a talisman for the F-4J in the USN tree, and it is an absolutely fantastic plane for me who wants to bomb and then shoot Sparrows at people. With the HMD it somewhat compensates for the bad performance for you to pull enough AOA for a WEZ. But the Brit F-4J Phantom is............... eh. And now you can't bomb either because the Vipers out run you to the bases.

Watching him play this plane is like getting gas lit. I only ever get games at 12.0. My skyflashes will not hit anyone unless i'm in a 1km head on, my radar will lose lock unless I'm in a dead head on. My RA missiles don't know where they are. This plane is just fly low from runway, lock up a plane in a head on, skyflash misses and then I get chased down by a 54c pulling 400000g that got launched from the enemy base.

I think when it comes to the rp bonuses it's because of the potential of top tier jets. I suspect for eg. due to the heavy loadouts they expect higher average kills or dase damage scores and when using it to gain feom low tier especially it will earn the rp twice as fast as the lower planes with the same earning %.

My best guess is that you can bomb bases with a lot of these new premiums which is quite profitable and most importantly consistent While plenty of lower tier premiums especially props have no way of consitent and easy sl gain like that which means lower avarage income across the player base so higher sl multiplier to even it out Gajin just wants to squeeze you but not too much

Either one of two things happened. The Mig's missile swapped target to the Skyflash because it was hotter or, due to Defyn's movement, the missile tried to follow the Phantom and both missiles got close enough for their fuses to go off

@Fabio Arpino You aren't the only one that doesn't think they're bad. I used to have tremendous fun flying the C. 205 serie 1 Veltro, the C.205 with only 7.7s and .50s, before they buffed the HEF rounds of these and similar 50.calibre gums. The plane has slightly better performance than the, back then 4.3 one, but in this case it was placed at Br 3.3. You'd just drain people of their energy, and once they were slow you carefully aimed rounds into the cockpit, fuel tank and engine. The guns weren't great, but atleast they reliably worked when I wanted them to, compared to some other canons. Japanese 12,7 mm and British Hispanos, I'm looking at you.

Don't really get R-60's much in that thing cause most of the aircraft that carry them are much slower than me. If it's a Mig-21 climbing to altitude with me, I throw an Aim-7 at him to either kill him, or force him to defend it. If it's an Su-25, I'll just stay away from him until I have a chance to kill him, or I'll just throw an Aim-7 at him to kill him before he even gets in range (they are surprisingly good at it since Su-25 turns like shit at altitude, especially when they're still climbing). I admit the plane has its faults, but I still enjoy it because I know how to employ its weapons properly and where to use its performance. It's not for everybody, and I admit that as well. But it's not shit.

IRL the skyflash had a vastly superior seeker performance to the E2, the skyflash seeker served as the baseline for the seeker that was eventually installed on the AIM 7M, the ultimate AIM 7 variant ever made and probably the best SARH missile ever made. But, it's war thunder, and if we had realistic seeker performance on the AIM 7's they'd be even MORE infuriating to use. it would be a case of AIM 7F being okay, AIM 7M being amazing, and skyflash being reliable and a great missile but short ranged compared to the AIM 7M, with just about every other AIM 7 variant being staggeringly bad.

it's not so much that it's bad it's just that it's painfully average and uninteresting, it's an average NATO missile truck that can easily and reliably farm a few kills and a few bases every battle then dies the second someone with half a working brain decides to go for it. It's very effective because of the sheer amount of weapons it carries, and is a good grinder because of that, but it's not interesting to play. And as you mention, it doesn't take any skill to get a bunch of kills every match, but you still do, that's why it's at 11.3, because SARH missiles with PD radars are so meta even a mediocre plane can be deadly if it carries enough of them. Good play to grind and farm score, bad plane to have fun.

I've managed to get a 7-man back when I was grinding F-14 in my stock A-7E against 4xF-14A's, 2xF-5E's and 1xMig-21bis and survive. I started defensive from 5 of those encounters and won because my opponents couldn't shoot for shit. I should have been dead in all 5 of those scenarios. Would you not then consider the A-7E Corsair 2 a top grade fighter?

I doubt Gaijin will put in the 120A without putting for the Americans+Swedes+Israel+Germany or the Russians with their R77s. The UK is not their cash cow. I doubt the UK is more deserving for the 120s compared to the Swedes with their latest Viggen in game which was purposefully upgraded to carry the 120s. Or the Germans with the F-4F ICE for that matter.

Can you do a review on the Phantom FG1. I recently got it and man this thing sucks with aim9D stock.

I have gotten a J phantom to 600 mph er sorry 1000 communist units on only one running engine in sim. I also had three enemies overshoot me and hit an F104 with a sparrow rear aspect after he overshot using just regular ACM mode. Was just a stupid AI AAA Sidam that nailed the engine in the first place. They really buffed the heck out of the AI ~year ago, dunno why.

Well I fell for it. normally Ill wait for reviews Before I buy something, but the urge to have a Phantom was to big. Normally im not playing that high of a br the highest was 9.7. But I thought its a Phantom so how Bad can It be. WELL 70 bucks went missing and the best thing of this pack was the premium time. RIP to my money

Its not ground clutter. The "clutter" stands for the speed that the radar can't see. It's around 340m/s if you're at mach 1.

Im not saying itll fix everything, and idk you might of used them quickly and i missed it... But you're complaining about a lack of agility, and then also not using the leading edge slats, which can be dropped at whatever airspeed you want, with only a minimal increase in drag and resultant loss of speed.
