The F-4J (UK) is currently a premium rank VII, 11.3BR fighter in the British air tech tree and, while it certainly has the chops to do well, the F-4 Phantom airframe is unfortunately consistently outclassed in its BR bracket by other, more advanced designs. Regardless, the F-4J (UK) still has enormously powerful technology and armaments that can even the playing field.

yknow they should make the FGR.2 and F.3 (4J UK) more comeptitive by giving it it's actual historical loadout of Aim-9L's, in the falklands they actually took existing 9Ls from our FGRs initially while waiting for the ones we ordered from the US for the Harrier GR.3s and Sea Harriers

@@commandoepsilon4664 Concerning its the best CAS in top tier GF and was the top performing jet in air RB before being dethroned by F-16 ADF. The GR.7 going up is quite reasonable.

@@Jdhog152 Raising it's BR because of CAS performance doesn't change anything, ground doesn't go higher than 11.0, so the SPAA it faces are already the best in the game. As for it's air performance, I can tell you the only reason it does/did so well has nothing to do with the plane or it's weapons, but rather the complete lack of situational awareness most top tier air players seem to have.

I use F4J(UK) for CAS and base bombing. Dirt cheap to repair, it makes a ton of RP and SLs on each sortie - way surpassing the Tornado.

I understand it has Doppler, but some times I feel like it just doesn’t do it’s job, might just be the way I fly which I now understand a little better to keep myself more mid range than how I usually sit which is more orbit like, definitely wish this got a better heat seeker cause japans F4 phantom at top tier gets the Aim9L as well, I don’t mind the Aim9G it’s certainly wacked a few of my tougher fights out of the air but man, getting basically shotgunned by an all aspect isn’t fun

pd is only reliable in head-ons Its literally just head on > swing a missle from 10km away > go 90* while keeping the radar lock

Once I've saved up enough in my video game budget ima pick this up, I don't care that it's overpriced, I don't care that it's worse than its competitors, I just want fast plane with BRRRRRRRT gun but also missiles. Also I want to grind more the UK tree without spending 2 decades in Spitfires.

As someone who played it all the way through the British Tech Tree, I recommend carrying 4 Skyflashes, 2 pylon mounted 1000lbs bombs, and switch it up with the gun pod, drop tank and 3×1000lbs bombs to see which you like best. If you want to go full bomber, carry as many bombs as you can, either the drop tank or gun pod, and 2-4 skyflashes depending on what speed you like. PS - 4 1000LBS BOMBS WILL NOT DESTROY A BASE.

Sorta crazy that War Thunder's premium aircraft are as much as some of the premium aircraft you can get in Digital Combat Simulator; probably the best flight sim in the industry at the moment.

People compare DCS and Warthunder wayyyy too much. They are completely different beasts, DCS is a hyper-realistic sim that can take a month+ to master a single plane, whereas warthunder is an arcade sim in 3rd person.

I have to say i am using it normally for grind and yea pretty good bc of the Skyflashes they are just rlly good with the Aim 9Ls using normal E on 46km

So what would your opinion be now that the tier changes have come into affect? I understand br is what defines searches but tier should come into play and with the MIG/F16&14 in a different bracket you’ll play with them less often I’d hope.

1 more thing to touch on for the cons relative to the standard -4J: -no wing mounted sparrows, so total load of 8 instead of 10 missiles. (not a large difference) -the standard -4J's Sparrow F has longer range than skyflash

You cannot mount aim 9g with underwing sparrows anymore, since after the F-14 out of the dev server back in the danger zone update. also skyflash and E-2 is way worse then 7F due to the burn time is shorter, 7F almost have no minimum engagement range just like skyflash (can turn off the rail) while accelerate way faster and a longer burn time. Meaning you if you face 7F on a head on,sky flash usually lose.

@@lucascousins6934 the best phantom in the game game is F-4EJ Kai with its 4 7F+4 9L with the F-16 radar, the turning ability is acceptable, can easy out dog fight the F-16 when you still have one or 2 missile on board. The second best is the F-4J (US) it can carry 4 or 6 7F depending how many sidewinders you want to carry, I usually pick 5 7F + 2 9G, with HMD this thing is better compare with the F-14(7F+9H) loadout for me, F-14 is better because it has aim-54, but the ACM mode on that radar is dog shit compare with the AWG-10 (An/APG-59)that the F-4J has when in a normal combat, this Radar can lock further and faster then the F-14 in the ACM mode due to using the PDV mode instead of a 9km ACM pd mode for the F-14.

I generally don’t have a fun time playing this plane, the sky flash just don’t do anything for me half the time and the minimal countermeasures is ass as well as the slow speed

This is one of the best grinding vehicles in the game! I went through British tree in a week and a half. Look up my stats in that plane. Poe_Dunker... I'm positive kdr and the amount of ex per game is amazing! Just carry bombs and missiles. Bomb 2 based the charge the enemy! 35k even if you lose with no kills.

@@NineSeptims no, i did all of my grinding in the first like week and a half after getting it. It gained xp twice as fast as the f5c did fir me. Granted that I have over 2.5k hours in the game now, but I can assure you, it's excellent at grinding when you learn it's niche

What... How. Honestly, I bring 4x Skyflashes and 4x Aim-9Gs and just aim for airkills - usually landing 3-4 air kills. I've always felt it's too heavy to reach a base with missiles and bombs to beat friendlies to enemy bases.

I don't understand why you say that the AIM-9G's are mediocre when I say they're just as good as AIM-9J/P's. The G's have longer ranger while the J/P's g-limit is better by 2g's

I ordered the SU-39. I agree £60 is ALOT for a digital purchase but this is my argument: People will spend £60 on figurines and models and stuff like that and no one will question it as it's a hobby. What's the difference here? I see it as a collectible item on a video game, to me it's not that different. However I don't like the pay to win aspects of course. Anyway with the SU-39 I justified it as I am getting a plane, a skin, premium, a decal, and golden eagles. That's a decent amount of stuff. But for this plane as it's not pre-order anymore and there isn't a decal and skin it makes the price a bit harder to justify. It took a lot of thought but as I love playing games in the end I didn't see why not, although it might be the last thing I purchase in this game maybe not forever but for a long while most probably.

I wouldn't recommend its a very bad plane in the meta. Its the worst premium phantom with dogshit dogfights. Super Temps are fun. But you dont get them. Plus the Bigger gun makes you slower. as you weigh more. Sure its a better gun, but it hurts your flight performance more then the colt gun pod the American ones get. Now you have to fight the 12.3 hell in it to.

Correction, I hope you read this comment, but the 9P's (basically a export version of 9J's so the same thing) have 2 more G's of pull over the 9G but are basically useless beyond 2.8km, whereas a 9G could effectively get you kills (provided the enemy isn't really looking and you have a mid-high relative speed) from 4ks and even beyond, not to mention 9G's have a massive seeker gimbal (allowing you to greatly lead your missile shots) compared to the 9P/J that has basically less than half of the 9G's, I'm sorry man but your statement that the "9P's which are substantially better than what this plane has" simply isn't true, some people even prefer the 9D over the 9J,

PD is good though Skyflashes aren't the best. Within 3KM they out do the 7F and are a bit better than the R24s, starting at 4KM and beyond it gets easily out performed

In terms of actual 11.0 aircraft the ADTW sucks ass: you get AIM-7E (not even E-2), a mediocre radar and ok close range IR missiles. The thing is the phantom gets eaten alive if it tries to turn (and also if you don’t turn since it’s now fairly slow compared to the competition) and you really need to turn to use the IR missiles effectively. Now for grinding it might be OK, you could probably bomb a base consistently every game.

War thunder has to change their BR and tier system because every update makes the previous top tier vehicles less than desirable. I'd rather wait in the lobby for a few more minutes and get a battle in which my chosen vehicle is well matched to the competition.

I've never played top tier because of this. Ontop of the SL for repair, it just isn't fun. It's just a missle competition. I've been playing for years, since 2015.

@@willsimpson3783 I don't mind the missile fights, most top tier British planes in WT have cannons that are hard to aim anyway (except the phantoms), my biggest problem is that ever since I unlocked top tier the only nations that have had competitive planes are US, USSR, and China. It's rather annoying and I rather don't like that seemingly whatever plane I pick if I get stuck in a 1v1 my only hope is that my opponent is stupid.

@@willsimpson3783 I've been playing since 2015 also and I find the most fun to be around the 3.0 to 5.0BR range. Shermans, T34, panzer 4, along with the planes around the P47 or 109 type of stuff is where I find myself really enjoying this game. I wasn't interested in naval at first, but I've really gotten into that lately
