Everyone wants to have the last word. Which is a natural human reaction. However if Iran doesn't want to go to war with Israel then they should stop attacking Israel directly or with proxies. Iran's priorities lie with their theocratic leadership not being able to tolerate the existence of Israel, yet Israel poses absolutely no risk to Iran if they don't provoke them. Iran is incredibly vulnerable and sooner or later is likely to try Israel's patience and Iran will not be able to export one drop of oil. Iran's priorities make little sense to my Western mind and possibly to anyone not immersed and fully committed to their theocracy.

If you mean some other leader will use their downfall to spur on their own power you're totally right. But that would happen no matter what. Iran is not giving away what they need, only the UK does that. The Iranian navy is larger than Israel's as well. War is not about your feelings, numbers do not lie.
