You mentioned at 5:32 that the sulfuric acid is a catalyst, is this because of the fact that it goes back to its original form?

Can this mechanism occur for the primary alcohol? Step 1: Protonation; Step 2: H2O leaves resulting alpha carboncation formed; Step 3: hydride shift occurs resulting beta carbocation formed; Step 4: Deprotonation.

No because carbocation formation only happens with SN1 and E1 mechanisms.
