I bought Legion in the fall of -94. I was fifteen years old. I remember before I bought it, the cover pic was patched on the backs of many a member of Oulu’s most feared gang roaming the streets at night - but then again some wore Iron Maiden patches, so I went into the record store thinking, ’it can’t be too heavy, can it?’. At the same time I bought Morbid Angel’s Blessed are the Sick. What can I say. Satan Spawn the Caco-Daemon blew my mind. It was the heaviest thing I had ever heard, nothing came even close. And it persists to this day and sounds just as good right now, 30 years later.

Some select tracks though. Like "Slave to the Cross", "Once Upon the Cross' (I mean, Fu**...that intro CHUWG, CHURGH, CHORG,CHAWG, 🤪). @@dr.juerdotitsgo5119 Legion isn't tuned low though, it's still Standard E tuning on a 6-string. It's the frantic and unrelenting speed and structure shifts, winding riffs and super-tight rhythm section that makes Legion one step ahead of the debut and the Amon demos. But that is just my opinion. I still like the debut and the demos. I just think Legion was the "final form" of that version of Deicide. They mellowed down with Once Upon the Cross and after.

@@rohitchaoji Yeah I know, I was referring to what's considred brutal nowadays in general. And I love "Once Upon", got some cool groovy riffs and passages going for it. Unless is old grindcore, I really don't like non-stop blasting.

It's always fun listening to Glenn , I've met him a few times and yeah he can be moody ,but who wouldn't be if you had been stuck on a tour bus going to another crappy s*"t hole in England , I've met Steve ,Ralph, jack,Brian ,Eric over the years , I even sang 3 songs for them at Jilly's rockworld here in England ( many moons ago) I think deicide are one of the top original death metal bands around) I saw them in Bradford before they even made legion , when legion came out it blew my mind , I loved it immediately , the band I was in used to play a cover of dead but dreaming and sacrificial suicide , back in 93 that was a serious flex of a band musical skills , no bands dared to cover deicide songs, they were just to fast ,difficult to play , and lots of the local death metal bands would turn their nose up at deicide ( not because they didn't like it ,because the band they were in couldn't play the stuff ) especially the drummers , nicko,Dave and Steve are my drumming heroes and I was lucky enough to be able to play slayer , deicide songs because I would practice to them every day hours at a time , DEICIDE are seriously underated , Steve's playing changed death metal drumming just like Dave Lombardo's drumming changed thrash , And Glenn is a fkn awesome bass player and front man ,it's criminal that bands such as slipknot didn't take deicide out as a support act during their world tours , Joey ,Paul,Mick all said deicide were a massive influence on them , anyway at least Glenn and Steve kept deicide going after Eric and Brian ( left or got booted out ) on the scars of the crucifix tour , I saw the one performance the Hoffman's did in the UK on that tour , the tension and atmosphere between the Hoffman's and Glenn was vicious , I think deicide have done some amazing albums with Ralph and Jack , and now Kevin and the newest guitarist ,but what most people don't realise is Steve ashiem has written at least half the music on every album since the begining , he's a brilliant shredder , I raise my glass to the best death metal band in the world DEICIDE ! Fuck yeah!

I'd crawl through broken glass to have seen Deicide back in the early to mid 90s. They were the pinnacle.... the Balrog of death metal. And they all used B.C. Rich guitars. Serpents isn't their best album but that was definitely Glen's best performance and the greatest in all of death metal, IMO. I first saw them in 2000 when I turned 18 and they were still incredible. Got to speak with Glen a little before the show, then Steve after outside. He was super nice and gave me some drum tips. Glad to see Glen content and doing well these days.

I remember when Glenn used to literally burn an upside down cross into his forehead during the nineties lol. I wish Glenn and the Hoffman brothers would make amends and get back together. They created some of the most iconic sounding death metal music. Once Upon the Cross and Serpents of the Light are awesome albums and I have them in my cars cd rotation lol. People always hate on the production of the Serpents album but that album is a banger imo.
