People think Deicide is Glenn's band. Steve really runs the show. He writes a lot of the guitar stuff as well as the brutal drumming.

Glenn doesn't think it's his band though. Steve and him are tight as fk and will always have each other's back no who comes n goes. But people would think the "Satanist" guy who burnt an inverted cross into his forehead is the brain.

Absolutely the best death metal drummer to come from the original Floridian masters, he's so overlooked, he is single handedly responsible for the development of death metal drumming, and song writing, he was writing most of the rythum guitar parts on legion and most albums there after, when legion came out every death metal musician was blown away by his technical abilities and his superior double bass playing,if it wasn't for Steve ashiem death metal drumming wouldn't be where it is today.

gene hoglan also has a big role in extreme metal drumming and extreme tempo double bass, but he's very overlooked indeed

@@WeisserStolz1 Deicide formed in 1987, (although they didnt change there name to deicide until 89) debut album 1990, Nile formed in 93, there first full length wasn't until 98, although they had a couple of E.Ps before that, so by the time nile released there first full length album in 98, deicide already released there debut self titled, legion, once upon the cross, and serpents of the light, not to mention Amon: Feasting the beast, all before 98, not to mention Nile isnt even from Florida.

Kids these days have it so good. If you are a starting out drummer in this age, you can just fire up KZbin and have a masterclass of drumming like this to learn from at your figertips whenever you want. Even if your wi fi sucks ass and you have to watch it at 360p.... its still light years better than what us old people had when we were young.

Fantastic footage of a pretty overlooked death metal drummer. Steve retains that primal death metal feel and has the ability to play with longevity. Thanks for the footage
@tomconner50673 жыл бұрын
I have to say Bostaph although a great guy, has no place in league with this dude, not just because he's my old neighbor and friend, because I like Paul, Steve is at a different level
@WhirlwindDrums3 жыл бұрын
@@tomconner5067 What's got me intrigued is Paul Bostaph being your neighbor at one point haha. I agree though. And Steve's drumming has continued to evolve over the years. Check out his drumming on Order Of Ennead and the deicide albums from Stench Of Redemption onward. His drumming (especially on Order of Ennead) had a much more technical approach and lots of different blast beat variations. So what I said about the "primal feel" is just the tip of the iceberg. Anyways, just a little thought I had on Steve's drumming. Still continue to amazes me
@jamescon553 жыл бұрын
@@tomconner5067 2 DIFFERENT kinds of EXTREME drumming that is all. They shouldn't be "compared" to be absolutely "fair". I'm SURE IF Bostaph WANTED to play DEICIDE style of music, he COULD. Being SLAYER'S drummer? He already has the endurance for Death Metal. 😎
@jamescon552 жыл бұрын
@@WhirlwindDrums Guy is prolly FOS anyway (about neighbors and BS) 🙄 as MOST people that say similar stuff online. WHY else would he avoid my earlier questions about Paul (which I since deleted) then IF it WAS true? 😒 Just the usual "crickets sound" return reply ....BS 🙄

What do you mean by "cheating" ?
@brlebuldozer Жыл бұрын
@@DarkRedman31 cheating on hi hat is for my opinion when you are playing 4 note on hi hat. He play 16 note. And you see how his hand do that. His right hand is move so fast and when you have his age it is fantastic. When drummer want to rest or if he is out of condition he move his right hand slow. And for metal music for me it is cheating.

Waaaayyy underrated...And yet Steve Asheim WAS/IS one of the 1ST extreme DM drummers to make what DM had and has become. Hoglan, Lombardo, Sandoval, Bostaph, Doc, Harrison, and of course STEVE ASHEIM were/are just an example of some of the great innovators/pioneers of Extreme Drumming (that were my personal inspirations) with Steve and DEICIDE in my TOP 3 next to SLAYER and the mighty MORBID ANGEL. Steve HAS ta be non- human as well, as there just ISN'T any stopping point ahead it seems and he JUST KEEPS killin it LIVE. Plus? Steve Asheim IS a super cool guy. Those power Tom's on his new kit sound absolutely fkn awesome, people knock d drum and talk shit about them, but they have had some of the biggest and best thrash metal and death metal drummers endorse them,even Dave Lombardo played them for about two years,on the world painted blood tour. Paul from cannibal corpse plays d,drums, and the monster known as Vinnie Paul had a signature kit and hardware line with them, d drum are just as good as the rest of the main manufacturers, the only drum company that is leagues above the rest is the , British drum company, but you need a mortgage to afford them.

I love how Steve chooses to use the paiste alpha series cymbals, of the odd rude cymbal,I use mostly alpha's and a couple of rudes, shame that paiste have stopped producing the alpha line, they easily stand along side with the much more expensive rude series. As a drummer who used to break cymbals regularly,I can say that I've only cracked one alpha china type in my 30 odd years of drumming,in the UK I got a alpha rock bundle,16,18, rock crashes,20 heavy ride and 14 inch sound edge hi hats for about £400 quid, and after using them for a month I hunted down a 18 China ,a 20 crash ride,a 10 and 12 splash, and some rock hats that I got cut down to 13. I'm not sure how much I paid for the lot but I imagine it's around £1200/1300 quid. If they were the more expensive rude series it would have cost me around £2500 to£3000 ,I'm lucky enough to own a few rudes, but anytime I can find a new alpha ( later called the Nicko boomer series) I will buy them. Paiste pst8 series are the replacement for the alphas, so if you are looking for a serious quality set of metal cymbals at an affordable price, then you should try the pst8 series, you won't be disappointed.
