Same with blocking brands on social media. It doesn't work on all social media apps, but one some if you've blocked a specific brand any ads they run off their page will not be shown to you. Though, they're starting to catch on to that and making ads that link to sites not their social pages on TikTok to avoid that rule.

I had to do this with Bath and Body Works because their notifications were getting aggressive 😅. I like their body sprays, but that's really about it. Their candles don't seem to be anything special to me, and I can get cheaper lotion and hand soap from Walmart. Not saying I never treat myself but it's been a long time since I've bought anything from them and I don't feel like I'm missing out.

I would love to see your take on booktok/bookstagram inspired consumerism. When I was a teen, you could be a reader with a library card and sprawling on your bed. Now I see everyone buying bookinspired outfits, shelfs, fancy string lights, making expensive and barely comfortable reading nooks, and buying huge amounts of books they don't end up reading even in multiple editions. While I don't want to shame people for these actions, I think there's still a point to be made about performing your identity through consumption on book social media.

Brands making claims about their sunscreens being "Reef Safe" is unfortunately a form of greenwashing. The study about reef safety and sunscreens has been misinterpreted on many ocasions and the term itself is not regulated by law. Also you only really need to worry about it if you are going to swim in an area with reefs. Lab Muffin Beauty Science has said more on this subject if someone is interested. @ryanb18006 ай бұрын
@@fallenangelforeverthat’s the problem with the whole marketing term. There is no such thing as “reef safe”. All the studies people reference are unrealistic concentrations, in enclosed environments, have varied results between experiments (cannot be replicated therefore not reliable), and inorganic (mineral) did worse in many of the studies. It’s been known for a long time that minerals like zinc oxide are not ideal for marine life (obviously dose dependant), however to market them as “reef safe” is just capitalism with no scientific literacy. Lab muffin beauty science has a great video explaining everything.

Hey Cara! Great video! Just a note, check out LabMuffinBeautyScience’s videos about sunscreen myths. In it she discusses how the idea of sunscreen being unsafe for reefs is largely not proven and was based off of some sketchy studies. Of course we should try to use environment friendly products, but this advice of “reef friendly” tends to turn off people from using sunscreen altogether because the reef friendly ones tend to sit badly on the skin. Love that you said its best to use any sunscreen instead of none tho 🥰

They've been selling those 'expand when wet' towels at dollar tree for years 😭 However they're usually quite small towels with cartoon characters from shows/movies aimed at kids, so I'm assuming they're used to clean up spills That being said though, having a huge version of these towels makes no sense other than to make a lazy product and hope someone buys it 0_o
@Hermititis7 ай бұрын
I never thought about spills. I always thought they were meant for kids as washcloths...you know, kiddo in the bathtub, drop that little compressed towel puck into the bathwater, then once it unfolds you lather it up with soap & the kid gets to wash up. Of course, the "unfurling trick" only works the first time, but that's why they have cartoon characters to help them stay fun for subsequent baths.

Great stuff! I’m curious how you feel about back to school having sooo many useless but popular products. Something’s are helpful yes, like backpacks becoming rollaround packs to help stop back and shoulder pain. But junk like aesthetic locker accessories, hundreds of backpack accessories that always fall off, implying that everyone needs an entirely new wardrobe and all new makeup supplies, the list goes on! I also feel like the rise in shows like Lizzie McGuire, That’s So Rave, Hannah Montana, definitely added to the “back to school” aesthetics too.

Can you de influence overconsumption when moving into a house or apartment. I am not an avid consumer normally. But after getting a house my purchasing has increased a lot. An example now that I have a garage I got a used tool box but the tools I had before were not a full set. So now I’m making extra purchases of tools I don’t really need just to say I have all the tools I might need. I think that having a complete set or everything your missing from a room or area can trigger unnecessary purchases. So if you have any experience with curbing that new home consumption it would be much appreciated.
