This is awesome. I'm not looking to black out badges but, this is an awesome method of masking off only the badge for touch up painting. I got a ding in the hood of my WJ when it got a little too intimate with a tree. I got it straightened out but the paint cracked and flaked away. I got the bare metal covered with color matching touch paint but it looks horrible the way I had to mask off the "JEEP" badge. With this method I can mask off just the letters and spray right over it!

I just did this to my 05 4r a few weeks ago, looks really good on the WJ! I like the black and red combo.

100% agree blacked out badges are the way to go. If you peel the tape after the final coat while the dip is still wet it makes it a bit easier, and you could even do racing stripes with that method as well, but please not on the jeep lol.

Now I realize what I’ve been doing wrong haha. Everyone I’ve seen to remove while still slightly wet, so my Jeep looks like a ricer civic as far as badges go. Thank you for the great video!

Brought to you by cheez its 🤣. A perfectly executed plasti dip job! I agree completely with your debadged or blacked out style. The worst is the gold badging on the limited ZJs 🤮. Awesome video!

Dude, good video,great advice with one issue. The issue is using a graphite pencil. Do you remember the old ARCO graphite motor oil from the mid 80's that literally wore metal engine internals (discontinued)needless to say. It was refined right @ the old x-ARCO refinery in south Philadelphia. With that said don't use a graphite utensil against a metal surface, painting or otherwise, it will leave a micro-scopic etch that will allow rust!

Awesome video and technique... have been wanting touch up these parts... I also like to use bamboo BBQ (or wooden) skewers to gently scrape and clean... good point... pencil is great... [better]

Very cool. I have a white 96 XJ with silver badges like Dan's in the comment below. Now they'll be sprayed black. One question...I have M/T rims that are plastidipped by a previous owner and they are faded and ugly. How do I remove the paint? It seems thin. Thanks.

Peeling plastidip that has been on for a few years is a nightmare. everyone claims it just peels off, it does not. Sanding is difficult as well as it is rubber and not as hard an enamel. Solvents are a decent bet. melt it off with brakleen or paint stripper. If they aren't too bad, i would just paint over them. I have always loved Plastidip for wheel because you can touch up spots or paint over it without it looking like crap

Side note, if it's cold out plastidip dose not spray well, it sometimes helps to warm the can first

How long does this last? Does it not peel when washing, or gets damaged from heat, like the sun?
@DEInTheGarage2 жыл бұрын
If you do the light coats and build it up it will last basically forever. The decals I did for this video are still perfect, but application is key. Light coats or it WILL peel
