Nobody should expect a top pick to immediately change their team around, but during a rebuild, you can expect to be picking in the top 10 for 2-3 years. That's multiple potential keystone players for a franchise that can help turn it around. Look at the bengals and the texans. 2 perfect examples of teams improving because of the draft

I would have disagreed 2 years ago, now I wouldn’t care. All the owner has to say is I don’t want to waist a draft pick on some kid who might not play for this team or hold out for more money. They couldn’t take the risk. Deion’s sons are not all that to me. They have the hype but not the winning attitude, that will kill the locker room. Travis Hunter needs to gain some weight. Right, the system is intentionally setup for parity, where your team has the same chance as the other teams, it comes down with how you manage the money you're given and how good you are at running the organization. The complete opposite of college football right now.

@davidmackenzie9701 Ай бұрын
Surely you should want good and bad teams to get better. The problem is that there are some teams that, even if you do give them the best players, they don't know what to do with them, and they end up being hurt by the draft. From a player's perspective, it is not good to be drafted by these teams. They are being treated like rich man's play things.

Florio has been drooling over this for quite awhile and I agree that it probably will happen at some point. The NIL money gives the college kids financial independence and leverage. Let’s play this out - Say a player rejects the draft and sits out. The NFL could change the draft exclusivity to three years, which would put the prospect in an untenable position. The union could challenge it legally and it could end up in the courts or in Congress. Let’s say the NFL ultimately loses its exclusion from antitrust laws and everything reverts to free market. The richest owners will buy the best players, parity will disappear, all games will become pay per view, ticket prices will become even more ridiculous and the fans will lose. Is there another scenario?
@mudman619
@mudman619 Ай бұрын
I agree. but it appears that the NFL & the owners fully believe in & support the "parity" model for their business - I don't see a scenario where they voluntarily surrender their power or the model that makes them billions. As you said, either Congress will force them to or they'll figure out a way around players threatening to sit out.

The only thing that I think is funny about Deon Sanders saying that is that he’s kinda doing that with coaching; going to lesser teams in less desirable places and trying to turn them around. He walks a fine line between “I’m not going there because they don’t deserve my talent” and, “I’m so talented it doesn’t matter where I go, I’m going to make them better.”
@ThisHereCommenter
@ThisHereCommenter Ай бұрын
Seems like he’s fighting for the underdog in each of those situations. There’s a saying that goes “America loves an underdog.” More and more, we’re finding out that what a lot of Americans really love is to see the wealthiest, and most powerful, win in every situation, as long as the loser is not someone those Americans care about. Case in point: If these millionaire -and soon-to-be millionaire - players want to not be forced to spend the first four or five years of their careers getting coaching, medical treatment, etc, that is below NFL standards, and often (especially quarterbacks) having their career growth stunted due to poor team management and decisions, any fair-minded person should be able to understand that. But some fans only see a player, whom they don’t really care about, speaking up for himself in the face of those who are much richer and more powerful than that player is - and those fans are offended.

More power to players but the ultimatum effect of this is players 1-10 will have the same sentiment and 9-10 of those player will ultimately not be playing football at some point or will be playing for a worse organization/team than the one that came before. Maybe this will only be true for QB’s but nonetheless it’ll be a gamble that most will lose on since you’re taking a gamble and you’re going against a more powerful organization than just a single franchise. In other words, owners will realize if it can happen to one, than it can happen to the other and they’ll make rules to prevent it all together.

I disagree. If this happend it will make good teams stay good, and bad teams stay bad. Which makes the whole point of the draft obsolete. I also think collage players who are joining the draft, must sign a waiver to play for whoever NFL selects him.

I mean I understand why people think this will set a bad precedent, but it's your career. No one owns your rights, once you're contractually obligated there's not much you can do. There are some very badly ran organizations and players shouldn't be happy to go to a bad situation. Organizations need to improve. Some players don't care where they go because a dream was accomplished and there getting paid well. But for others it's about exposure. They don't put the bad teams on primetime. I've always felt the more you win, he more money you'll make through branding endorsements because you're part of a winning product. Some of these players talents are wasted playing for bad teams and organizations.

Everybody has an opinion until its their career being wasted on “Jeff fishers “ or “ David teppers “ playing in the nfl is indeed a privilege but even soldiers are allowed to express if they have no confidence in their leaders. Some of these people giving me super republicans vibes “ni%%er shut up and play “ like for real .. you dont want to work for a horrible boss or a bottom tier company but if i put on a helmet everybody else’s opinion is supposed to matter 🤣

I preferred the old days when the players needed day jobs in the off season to make enough to play football. They are too babied and paid too much now. This is one of the things killing this sport.

As a Chiefs fan, please do this. Every team with a stable top 10 qb will have the young top receiver demanding to play for that team. Chiefs will never have a bad wr year as long as Mahomes is the qb.

Mike is so wrong on this its not even funny. No player should be that controlling as a rookie. Imagine how the Zach Wilson situation couldve been & he was guaranteed to be a Jet. The best way to solve draft issues is removing franchise tag & option years but the NFL CANNOT go down the path of letting players call the shots. The NBA isnt the same anymore since that happen.

Athletes are so spoiled. They get paid millions to play a game they're treated and viewed as solders and now they can baby their way even further? There's many job normal people are forced to relocate at least for a few years and don't get paid anywhere near athletes do

I think it's a great idea to let these college kids pick where they want to go play instead of being drafted. This way the nfl can be just like the NBA where there are 4 teams a year that are any good. Good luck nfl. You had a good run.

Honestly if they dont want to do the draft, then maybe they should be able to just go undrafted free agents. Why even be in the draft if there are teams that cant draft you? The draft is setup to make the not so good teams better, so if you dont want to be on the "not so good" teams, then dont do the draft. This is just going to open the door for all the first round talent guys to say where they want to play and everyone based on where they grew up or what teams they watched to make their list based on that and you end up with just talent stacked teams and the small markets get weaker. I do however think the 5th year option needs to go for the first round guys. That forcing them for an extra year just because they are better is unfair to the player.

The NFL can’t exist in this type of situation….i do know it happened before but if this was the norm it would be like the lakers in basketball with all the best players forcing themselves to certain teams….if we want teams to be on at least the same potential level then players go where they are selected and can move on in free agency….

Bears charter franchise, more HOF then any other team, world class city, fan base that is world wide and vast, steady ownership, what the hell are people talking about. The draft is a draft! It’s not a college free agency, I say you skip a year you give up your right to be drafted, yes you can become a free agent but teams can then sign you to their terms and you’ll never Ry that slotted money or the honor of being drafted. Because obviously it’s not important to you. Deion was a great player seems to be a good coach but why do people take everything he says like he is gotta be right. I hated when Eli did this shit , and never rooted for him, he was a brat. Deons list is crazy teams he’s played for and teams and people he has connections with. Goddell needs to correct this mess. Yes players do have power, there’s the CFL, the XFL or the NFL or a real job take your pick!!!!

Imagine a group of top-level college graduates. Companies try to hire them, and they have the freedom to choose who they wish to speak with. So they choose cutting edge Tesla or SpaceX rather than slow, lumbering old GM or Chrysler. In the case of the NFL, the players will choose the better run teams with some consideration for location and other factors. Why should a player be forced to play for Snyder's Commanders? (When he owned the team) Or how about Tepper's Panthers? People who oppose player freedom probably want to roll back free agency, trapping great players in crummy organizations, or in situations they find untenable. Free the players....

This all seems incredibly stupid. RG3s comments on CW holding out from the Bears is one of the dumbest things ever. No rookie QB has ever been given that much talent around him entering the league. Maybe Deon has CTE bc it seems like he is purposefully sabotaging his son’s career.
