Fields' stats are only truncated by the penalties and infractions amassed. That crazy drop in the bucket toss to Pickens being called back because Coach refused to pull Jones out previously was a killer. That's not on Fields not being able to pass, that's a self-inflicted error out of his control.

There is a reason they are penalties, if they weren't the receiver wouldn't be open and he would've been sacked, how can no one see this basic concept? If there isn't a penalty the Edge would've sacked him period, he didn't lost a single yard due to penalty, he wouldn't have even thrown the ball if the play happened with no penalties.

Your input is always such a breath of fresh air. I have read so many comments from doofasses to the effect of, "Fields is not a QB1," etc. I haven't seen anything from Justin so far that gives me reason to doubt he can be absolutely superb. He is still almost a rookie with the Steelers.

That’s a lie… this is his fourth year starting. A lifetime 12-28 record as a starter. He is no where close to being a rookie. You Justin Field Goal fans are so delusional. No way a backup who is filling in for the starter putting up 100yds/gm 0.5TD’s a game and the team is averaging 15pts a game is all a sudden the unquestioned starter. You can dress it up all you want but the defense and Boswell are the mvp’s of the season. Russ had one of his worst seasons last year with 26td 8int. Because we *watch* the games (Not to say you didn’t) But it’s evident watching the two that Arthur smith can actually scheme to avoid defenses strengths and attack their weaknesses. They had 3 years of Canada and 2 games under smith and everyone expects a finished product I could go on. The difference is already night vs day. They just haven’t seen a ton of results because every good play had 10 flags on the field, very often for inconsequential holding that didn’t allow the good gain or pass anyways

Remember points or not, Houston and Cincy started 0-2, one team in 2022 and the other in 2023, but still made the playoffs. So if you see 16 points a game avg come November, it may be a little concerning. But just a little. Also, remember the coaches seemingly have the oline confused. every year it's moving and questioning. okafor, dotson, green, finney, cole, moore, jones, fautanu and many more. Once they leave the oline alone I believe the points will pick up.

Fields has been top notch as a person on and off the field. I see the throwing talent and athleticism, but I also see the mental lapses with snaps (fumbles) and Fields limited ability to process. The mental lapses and processing will catch up with him if they don’t improve. Fields also misses easy throws, but then will throw an accurate missile off balance on the run deep, you have to make the routine throw’s routinely.

At this point, Fields is more aggressively targeting GP further down the field with better accuracy and a bigger arm than KP. He also has better legs than KP. Beyond that one aspect and the athletic traits, it’s been the same low scoring affair-lots of 3&outs in this game as well. I (none of us) can’t control anything, so I’m simply reserving my JF judgement as I await the OL to come together-I wouldn’t be surprised if someone told me a pro bowl QB put up 13 points with 3 rookies on the OL… heck, I might be surprised if they survived the game. I’d also like to see this offense with Roman Wilson out there as well… then again, I’d like to see Warren getting a bigger share of the runs. So far, this is the same JF that was in Chicago and the same offensive results as KP last season-no argument there.

I completely understand why everyone starting to endorse Justin Fields a lot more he’s made some plays and I give him his credit. I still feel however that he’s holding onto the ball too long. Either way him and Russell Wilson are benefiting from a defense playing lights out football. I don’t have much to say about the penalties because it was sloppy on both teams part . This is the downside of teams, not playing their starters a lot during the preseason. A lot of sloppy ball has to come out.

I commend DK for toning down some of the verbiage with Fields this week - from "this is his team" to "he is the undisputed QB 1 right now ". He's been great and deserved to start last week and obviously next week. I'm excited and every Steeler fan should feel allowed to be excited about what they've seen from JF.. BUT.. I'm not delusional to think this can't go off the rails very quickly and this is his team. No, if he puts a couple stinkers together and Russ gains his health we will undoubtedly go back to Russ. He needs to play like this for many more games and against much better teams before this becomes his team and we can continue designating Russ the backup even after a stinker or two from Fields. But anyway, he's making fantastic decisions and throws and I'm super hopeful we've found our next franchise QB! Oh and the officiating thing I also thought Denver got hosed way worse than us this week (in ATL it was us that were hosed way worse) - I thought some of those defensive PI calls were quite questionable aside from the holding of Jefferson's hand, which was a great call. The holds on Broderick seemed legit too.

DK is Cam Heyward filling a similar role to Aaron Smith in the later years? (Eating blocks so other guys can make splash plays) I understand that is the job of a DT but we were so spoiled with the splash plays Cam made. As a stats nerd I wish I could see how many TFL are made with Cam versus the other DTs.

#J1Q . Hey DK, been a fan for a while, but this is my first J1Q submittal. I was wondering what you think about a potential trade for Russell Wilson to go to the Dolphins. I know this may seem far fetched, but with Tua injured and no real idea when/if he may come back, and Justin Fields performing at a level that the Steelers seem to be happy with, this seems like it would be beneficial for both sides. OH, and the dolphins have some good WR's in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle that would fill that void the steelers have been longing to do.

JF had an impressive game.... a 2nd TD pass was called back on a bad call... he had an out of this world 51 yard pass (maybe the best pass of the year) called back on a holding call while Fields was already out of the pocket.... and 2 other accurate deep sideline throws that were called for pass interference -- so Pitt got the yards but it they were not credited to the QB.... he consistently beat the blitz.... JF easily had at least 225/250 air yards plus 2 TD's on the day taken away from him..... and he still had a very good QBR..... and most importantly, he got the Dub.

All the complaints they had in Chicago i'm seeing here. Short to intermediate passes you need the wingspan of a pterodactyl to catch those passes, his pocket elusiveness is horrible and takes to many sacks. If you compare his pocket elusiveness to Ben not only is he not in the same ball park, he's not in the parking lot of the ball park. I 'm not getting the excitment people have for him. Bring on Russ. Lets see what he looks like.

Even Kenny Pickett made nice throws. Accurate passing consistency and not turning over the ball is key QB play. Justin Fields has been humbled after being traded for a 6th round pick. Can Fields win a game against a great team that scores 20+ points on our defense? FYI: Mason Rudolph has had the best two offensive games as a QB for the Steelers in over two years. I hope they do not offer Fields a long term multi-million dollar contract without him having at least one game like Mason had last year. Be patient Steelers, there will be several great available QBs that are on one year contracts that can be signed and not blow our salary cap on someone like Watson or Daniels. Baker Mayfield is a good example of reason for people to be patient. Could fields re-invent himself and be as good as Baker? How about Sam Darnold? Did he re-invent himself? He looked great against the Niners (a great team).

One (1) TD in eight quarters against two teams not going to the playoffs. It seems that Fields has the fumble and INT virus under control. J1Q: So I have a different perspective on Broderick Jones. I read your article this morning DK. Great article btw, but for me, the BJ saga just really seems to be setting up for a dumpster fire execution of utilization of a quality 1st round draft pick. I may be completely wrong, but more and more as I see BJ in interviews and such, his drive seems to be dwindling. Others have said it, and I agree, that OT’s will say, “yeah, wherever they want me, I will be there”. I’m not buying that. I am a Tomlin fan but I get so frustrated when I see these guys not placed where they naturally perform best. Why would you go and spend top (draft) dollar to have someone positioned where they cannot perform the same as why you freaking drafted them??!!! I just don’t get the logic. So you hold a top tier draft back from growing even more at their natural position to let another guy (Moore) who is a late bloomer maybe (?), grow to be good at that same position. It seems to me that Dan Moore is good now, and who knows what his ceiling will be, but in the process we may be wasting a guy who could have possibly grown to be the best in the league by his innate skill at that position (LT), and his freakish build. Who knows, I could be wrong, but I see this as sincerely mismanaged and believe that it is taking the drive out of Jones. Hope it’s not too late to get him back where he belongs before he also like others wants out of the Burgh.

Great response to the J1Q. It is tiresome to hear fans complain that the officials are "against us". I thought the crew in Denver, while "over-officious", was better than the crew in Atlanta who missed several blatant calls as well as called the weakest OPI in league history. Crews have good days and bad days, but thinking they're biased is laughable. Thank you, DK.

Keep throwing it to George until he's double covered 100%. And use Justins legs more - that's his super power. And pls get healthy Isaac & keep brod on the bench until he's fully healthy & just keep him practicing at LT. We get Dylan cook back off ir soon. He can be back up at rt. Keep Justin in!! Looks like what we should've expected so far with this team. I see a line that's doing what most of the rest of the league is doing, too, trying to gel. I feel like we're "on schedule" if that makes any sense. I'm not worried about Jones. Growing pains. Takes 3 to 4 years, right?

It’s great to see JF perform the way he did, especially in the first half, and the offense mixing up plays in well sustained drives. Obviously, that’s what we’ve been missing. But the constant penalty flagging is really taking away from the game, making it virtually unwatchable. I just hope that’s an early season issue, and the Steelers work out those bugs soon, before we get into the meat of our schedule 😮.
